Overview

The BETAFPV Micro RF TX Module is an open-source RC link transmitter based on the ExpressLRS project, designed to provide optimal performance in speed, latency, and range for RC applications. It aims to be one of the fastest RC links available while maintaining long-range capabilities.

Function Description:

The Micro TX Module serves as a radio frequency transmitter for remote control systems, specifically designed to work with radio transmitters that feature a micro module bay (also known as JR/SLIM module bay), such as the Frsky Taranis X9D or TBS Mambo. It utilizes the Crossfire serial protocol (CRSF protocol) for communication between the radio transmitter and the RF TX module. This module allows users to control their RC models with high precision and reliability.

The module supports various output power levels and packet refresh rates, offering flexibility for different flying scenarios and range requirements. It also integrates an OLED screen and a 5D button for direct interaction and configuration. For more advanced control and setup, it leverages OpenTX LUA scripts, enabling functions like binding, power adjustment, and firmware updates.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Frequency Bands:
    • 2.4GHz version: 2.4GHz ISM
    • 915MHz/868MHz version: 915MHz FCC / 868MHz EU
  • RF Output Power:
    • 2.4GHz 500mW version: 25mW/50mW/100mW/250mW/500mW
    • 2.4GHz 1W version: 25mW/50mW/100mW/250mW/500mW/1W
    • 915MHz/868MHz 500mW version: 100mW/250mW/500mW
  • Packet Refresh Rate:
    • 2.4GHz: 50Hz/150Hz/250Hz/500Hz
    • 915MHz/868MHz: 25Hz/50Hz/100Hz/200Hz
  • Input Voltage: 5-12V (2S)
  • USB Port: Type-C
  • Communication Protocol: Crossfire serial protocol (CRSF)
  • Connectors: XT30 Port (2S), USB Type-C, GH1.25 (GND, 5V, CRSF)
  • Display: OLED Screen
  • Controls: 5D Button, DIP Switch
  • Cooling: Integrated Fan + RGB (activates automatically when output power reaches a threshold, default 250mW or above)

Usage Features:

  • Configuration via OpenTX LUA Script: The module is primarily configured using the ELRSV2.lua script on an OpenTX radio transmitter. This script allows users to set parameters such as packet rate, telemetry ratio, TX power, and initiate binding or WiFi connectivity for firmware updates.
  • Direct Control via 5D Button and OLED: The integrated 5D button and OLED screen provide direct access to module settings.
    • Long Press: Unlocks and enters the menu page, or applies current settings.
    • Up/Down: Navigates through menu rows.
    • Left/Right: Changes the value of the selected row.
    • Short Press: Enables binding status or WiFi upgrade status.
  • Binding Process: The module comes with the official major release V2.0.0 protocol and no binding phrase by default. Binding can be initiated via the ELRSV2.lua script or by navigating to the "Bind" option on the OLED screen using the 5D button and performing a short press. The module will automatically exit binding status after 5 seconds. If a custom binding phrase is used during firmware reflash, both the TX module and receiver must have the same phrase for automatic binding.
  • Output Power Switching: Output power can be adjusted through the ELRSV2.lua script or directly on the OLED screen by moving to the "Power" position and using the left/right button presses.
  • Fan Operation: The integrated fan automatically activates when the output power reaches or exceeds a predefined threshold (default 250mW) to ensure optimal operating temperature.
  • CRSF Protocol Setup: To use the module, the radio transmitter must be configured to use the CRSF serial protocol. This involves turning off "Internal RF" and enabling "External RF" with "CRSF" selected as the protocol in the radio's model settings.

Maintenance Features:

  • Firmware Updates via WiFi: The module supports firmware updates via WiFi. Users can open the WiFi function of the RF TX module or receiver through the LUA script to perform updates. During WiFi upgrade status, the button becomes invalid, requiring a re-power of the module after the update.
  • Antenna Assembly: It is crucial to assemble the antenna before powering on the module to prevent permanent damage to the PA chip.
  • Power Supply: The module should only be powered with 5-12V (2S). Using a 3S or higher battery will permanently damage the power supply chip.
  • Receiver Re-powering: After changing the Packet Rate, the receiver must be re-powered for the changes to take effect.
  • Support Resources: BETAFPV provides ongoing support, including the newest user manual, instructions on how to upgrade firmware, and an FAQ/troubleshooting section on their support website, as the ExpressLRS project is frequently updated. Users are encouraged to check these resources for the latest information.
