Overview

This document describes the Beurer HK 25, HK 35, and HK 63 heat pads, which are designed to warm the human body. These heat pads are intended for personal use and are not designed for use in hospitals. The HK 63 model also features integrated permanent magnets for magnetic field applications.

Function Description

The Beurer heat pads operate by providing warmth to the body. They are equipped with a controller that allows users to select from three temperature settings: minimum (level 1), medium (level 2), and maximum (level 3) heat. The temperature settings are indicated by an illuminated display on the controller. To ensure rapid warming, the HK 35 and HK 63 models include a fast heating function that allows the pad to warm up more quickly during the first 10 minutes of operation.

A key safety feature of these heat pads is the integrated SAFETY SYSTEM. This sensor technology provides protection against overheating across the entire surface of the pad. In the event of a fault, the SAFETY SYSTEM automatically switches off the heating pad, and the temperature settings on the display will no longer be illuminated. If this occurs, the heat pad cannot be operated again and must be sent to a specified service address. It is crucial not to connect a defective heat pad to another controller of the same type, as this would trigger a permanent switch-off via the controller's safety system.

The heat pads also feature an automatic switch-off function, which turns off the heat supply approximately 90 minutes after initial use. When the automatic switch-off is activated, the temperature setting display will start to flash. To reactivate the heating pad, the sliding switch for ON/OFF and temperature settings must first be set to "0" (OFF). After about 5 seconds, it can be switched on again.

The electrical and magnetic fields emitted by the heat pad are designed to be well within safety limits, with an electrical field strength of max. 5000 V/m, a magnetic field strength of max. 80 A/m, and a magnetic flux density of max. 0.1 millitesla. However, individuals with pacemakers should consult their doctor and the pacemaker manufacturer before using the heating pad, as these fields may interfere with pacemaker function.

Usage Features

To use the heat pad, first connect the controller to the heating pad by inserting the plug-in coupling. Then, plug the mains plug into a socket. To switch the heat pad on, set the sliding switch on the controller to one of the temperature settings (1, 2, or 3). The illuminated display will confirm the selected setting. For the fastest warming, it is recommended to initially set the highest temperature.

When using the heat pad for several hours, it is advised to set the lowest temperature on the controller to prevent overheating of the heated body part, which could lead to skin burns.

To switch off the heat pad, set the sliding switch to "0" (OFF). The temperature settings will no longer be illuminated. If the heat pad is not in use, it should be switched off, unplugged from the socket, and the controller disconnected from the heating pad by unplugging the coupling.

It is important to ensure that the heating pad does not bunch up or become folded during use, as this can impair its function and potentially create safety hazards. Objects such as suitcases or washing baskets, or other heat sources like hot water bottles or similar heating pads, should not be placed on the pad while it is switched on. The electronic components in the controller warm up during use, so the controller must never be covered or placed on the heating pad while it is in operation.

The heat pad is not suitable for use by individuals who are not sensitive to heat or by vulnerable people who cannot react to overheating, such as diabetics, persons with skin changes related to illness, or those with scarred skin in the application area, especially after taking pain-relieving medication or alcohol. Very young children (0-3 years old) must not use the heat pad due to their inability to respond to overheating. Young children (3-8 years old) may only use the heat pad if the controller has been set by a parent or responsible adult and they have received adequate instructions on safe use. Children over 8 years old and individuals with reduced physical, sensory, or mental skills or lack of experience/knowledge may use the heat pad if supervised and instructed on safe use, and if they are aware of the risks. Children must not play with the heating pad.

The heat pad should not be used if it is folded or bunched up, if it is wet, or if needles are inserted into it. It should only be used with the controller specified on its label.

Maintenance Features

Before cleaning, always unplug the mains plug from the socket and disconnect the controller from the heating pad by unplugging the coupling to avoid electric shock. The controller should never come into contact with water or other liquids, as this can cause damage. To clean the controller, use a dry, lint-free cloth and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaning agents.

The textile cover of the heat pad can be cleaned according to the symbols on its label. It must be removed from the heating pad before cleaning. The plastic protective cover on the heating pad can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

It is crucial to note that the actual heating pad itself must not be machine-washed, spun, machine-dried, chemically cleaned, wrung out, pressed, or ironed, as this can damage the pad. The heating pad must never be switched on to dry it, as this poses a risk of electric shock.

The heat pad should be checked frequently for signs of wear, tear, or damage. If any such signs are evident, if the heat pad has been used incorrectly, or if it no longer heats up, it must be checked by the manufacturer before being switched on again. If the mains connection cable is damaged and cannot be removed, the device must be disposed of.

For storage, allow the heating pad to cool down completely before putting it away. To prevent sharp folds, do not place any objects on top of it while it is stored. If the heat pad will not be used for a long period, it is recommended to store it in its original packaging after disconnecting the controller.

The textiles used in this device meet the stringent human ecological requirements of Oeko-Tex Standard 100, as verified by the Hohenstein Research Institute.

For disposal, the device should not be discarded with household waste at the end of its useful life. Instead, it should be disposed of at a suitable local collection or recycling point, in accordance with the EC Directive – WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). Local authorities can provide information on waste disposal.

In case of problems where the temperature settings are not illuminated despite proper connection and power supply, it indicates that the safety system has permanently switched off the heating pad. In such a case, the heating pad and controller should be sent for servicing.
