Overview

This document provides a quick guide for the LUNA rechargeable hearing aids from Binowav Hearing Solutions.

Function Description

The LUNA hearing aid device is designed to amplify and transmit sound to the ear, thereby compensating for mild to moderately severe impaired hearing. These hearing aids are pre-programmed using data from thousands of individuals with hearing loss. Scientific data suggests that over 90% of people with hearing loss share similar hearing loss patterns, meaning that one or more of the pre-set hearing curves can address the compensation needs of most users. However, for a small number of people whose needs are not met due to differences in hearing loss type or the requirement for more powerful compensation, Binowav offers customization services.

The device features a Volume/Mode Control Button, which allows users to adjust the volume and switch between programs. A short press adjusts the volume, with the top button increasing and the bottom button decreasing the level. If the maximum volume is reached and the button on the same side is pressed again, the volume level will cycle up or down. A long press (2 seconds) of the button changes the program: one beep indicates Program 1 (suitable for quiet environments), and two beeps indicate Program 2 (ideal for noisy environments).

The LUNA hearing aids are designed for automatic operation. They turn on automatically when removed from the charging case and turn off automatically when placed back in the case. Users can also manually switch the hearing aid on/off by long-pressing the button for 5 seconds, though this is typically not necessary.

Important Technical Specifications

The technical data for the LUNA hearing aids are as follows:

  • Max Output(dB): 120±3
  • Avg. Output(dB): 115±5
  • Max. Gain(dB): 42±5
  • Avg. Gain(dB): 35±5
  • Input Noise(dB): 22
  • Reference Test Gain(dB): 70
  • Frequency Range(Hz): 300 - 5000
  • Total Harmonic Distort: 2% - 3%
  • Battery Current(mA): 3.5
  • Battery Type: Rechargeable Ni-MH
  • Charging Time: 4H
  • Battery Constant Working Time: ≈16H

The product structure includes:

  • Microphone: Located at two points on the device body.
  • Volume/Mode Control Button: For adjusting settings.
  • Tube: Connects the main device to the ear dome.
  • Stable Line: A long wire at the end of the sound tube that acts as a "stabilizer" to help the dome stay in the ear. It can be cut off if not helpful.
  • Ear Dome: A soft silicone ear dome that fits into the ear canal.
  • Charging Contact: Located at the bottom of the device for charging.

Usage Features

General Guidance:

  1. Visit www.binowav.com/pages/support to watch a demonstration video on how to use the Rechargeable LUNA.
  2. Read the entire quick guide to familiarize yourself with the device.
  3. Practice putting on the device and finding the optimal volume and program settings.

Accessories:

  • Sound Tube: A standard 2B size sound tube is included with each unit. Blue lettering indicates the left ear, and red lettering indicates the right ear. Regular cleaning with the included black wire is recommended for optimal performance.
  • Dome: Five different-sized domes are provided. Users should select a dome that fits their ear canal well to ensure optimal performance and prevent earwax buildup. Regular cleaning of the domes is also advised.
  • Replacement: It is recommended to replace the dome every 2-3 months and the sound tube every 3-6 months. Replacements can be purchased from www.binowav.com/collections/accessories.

Recharge: The charging case has three lights. The lights on either side indicate the charging status of the hearing aid, while the middle light shows the charging status of the battery within the charging case. An orange light signifies charging in progress, and a green light indicates charging is complete. The charging case includes a protection system that allows the hearing aid to remain in the case for extended periods. When this system activates, the side lights will turn off.

Important Charging Information:

  • For first-time use, charge the hearing aid for 12 hours.
  • A full charge typically takes around 4 hours.
  • If the device is unused for over a month, charge it for 12 hours three times to reactivate the battery.

Gradual Adaptation to Hearing Aids: Adapting to hearing aids is a gradual process, unlike wearing glasses. Users will encounter new sounds and their brain will need time to adjust.

  • Week 1: Wear the hearing aids for a few hours a day. Initial sounds might seem too loud, but the brain needs time to re-learn sound processing. Increased wear time will aid adjustment.
  • Week 2: Gradually wear the hearing aids all day. New sounds can be exciting but potentially overwhelming. As wear time increases, conversations will become more accessible. Users might need to lower TV volume or ask others to speak softer.
  • Week 3: By this point, the brain should have adjusted, making hearing easier and allowing users to feel more present in conversations and enjoy sounds again.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning and Drying:

  • Earwax: Excess earwax can cause whistling. Use the provided black wire to regularly remove earwax from the sound tube.
  • Moisture: Moisture can reduce the device's lifespan and negatively impact sound quality. It is recommended to use a dehumidifier device to dry the hearing aid after each use.

Troubleshooting:

  • Low Sound:
    • Adjust the volume control.
    • Ensure the device has sufficient power.
    • Clean the sound tube and dome to prevent earwax blockage.
  • Feedback (Whistling): Occurs when sound returns to the microphone. Ensure the ear dome is correctly seated in the ear. If the problem persists, try a different sized dome and lower the volume.
  • No Sound: The hearing aid likely needs charging. Also, verify that the device is turned on.
  • Feel Itchy: This is common for new users, often due to domes blocking the ears, restricting air circulation, and making the ear canal unaccustomed. Remove the hearing aid and put it back on at regular intervals.
  • Reduced Battery Life: If the charging light turns green before the minimum charging time, it indicates undercharging. Charge the device for at least 12 hours (even if the light is green) and repeat this process three times to restore battery capacity.
