Installation Instructions
Thank you for purchasing the Solar Yard Shield™ – Ultrasonic/
Sonic Bird, Animal and Pest Repeller. For best results please
read these instructions before using and retain them for
future reference.
Solar Yard Shield™ Overview:
Featuring 3 modes of operation, Solar Yard Shield™ is a
versatile and effective bird and animal repellent! Unlike
other pest repellents that only offer one repellent mode,
Solar Yard Shield™ offers three pest repellent modes to
ensure your property is protected from birds, insects, deer,
raccoons, armadillos, opossums, skunks, cats, dogs, rodents,
bats, geese. Solar Yard Shield™ is ideal for use in: gardens,
backyards, open patios, courtyards, boats, docks and is
designed for long term use, allowing you to place it and leave
it to repel pests. It is weatherproof allowing it to work year-
round.
CAUTION
Persons with pacemakers please consult your doctor
before use.
Using the Solar Yard Shield™:
To operate, open the back cover using a Phillips head
screwdriver and refer to the diagram below. Remove the tab
/ plastic barrier from the rechargeable batteries to allow
contact. Normally, the Solar Yard Shield™ will be in standby
mode. Only when motion is detected (range of 30’ and arc of
110 degrees) will the Solar
Yard Shield™ activate.
NOTE: Before first use,
please allow two full days
of sunlight to charge the
batteries while the Solar
Yard Shield™ is in the
“OFF” position.
Mode 1 – Audible Repellant - uses a series of seven different
recorded sounds (GUN SHOT / SIREN 1 / BOAR SQUEAL /
SIREN 2 / BANGING SOUNDS / SIREN 3 / DOG BARKING). The
Solar Yard Shield™ will cycle through these sounds, preventing
animals from getting used to any one sound and increasing its
effectiveness. Adjust the volume as needed.
Mode 2 - Ultrasonic/infrasonic sound waves – uses a
selectable scale of ultrasonic and infrasonic waves ranging
from 12Hz to 35KHz. Refer to the control panel marking and
set the frequency for the desired pest.
Mode 3 - combines modes 1 and 2 and uses both the audible
sounds and the ultrasonic/infrasonic sound waves.
Coverage is up to 5,000 sq ft.; the lower the frequency, the
greater the coverage. For dense foliage areas or to cover large
areas, multiple units may be necessary.
Night time operation in any mode - the Solar Yard Shield™
contains a light sensor that automatically switches the
repelling to flashing LED lights ONLY. Regardless of which
mode it is in, Solar Yard Shield™ will operate silently at night
using 320 lumen of flashing LED light to repel pests.

Overview

The Solar Yard Shield™ is an ultrasonic/sonic bird, animal, and pest repeller designed to protect properties from a variety of pests including birds, insects, deer, raccoons, armadillos, opossums, skunks, cats, dogs, rodents, bats, and geese. It is suitable for use in gardens, backyards, open patios, courtyards, boats, and docks, and is built for long-term, year-round outdoor use due to its weatherproof design.

Function Description:

The device offers three distinct modes of operation to ensure comprehensive pest deterrence:

  • Mode 1 - Audible Repellent: This mode utilizes a series of seven different recorded sounds to scare away pests. These sounds include GUN SHOT, SIREN 1, BOAR SQUEAL, SIREN 2, BANGING SOUNDS, SIREN 3, and DOG BARKING. The device cycles through these sounds to prevent animals from becoming accustomed to any single sound, thereby maintaining effectiveness. The volume can be adjusted as needed.
  • Mode 2 - Ultrasonic/Infrasonic Sound Waves: This mode emits a selectable range of ultrasonic and infrasonic waves, from 12Hz to 35KHz. Users can adjust the frequency via the control panel to target specific pests.
  • Mode 3 - Combined Mode: This mode integrates both audible sounds (from Mode 1) and ultrasonic/infrasonic sound waves (from Mode 2) for enhanced deterrence.

Night Time Operation:

Regardless of the selected mode, the Solar Yard Shield™ incorporates a light sensor that automatically switches the repelling mechanism to flashing LED lights only during nighttime. This ensures silent operation at night, using 320 lumens of flashing LED light to repel pests.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: 4 "AA" Rechargeable NI-CD 800mAh, 1.2 Volts batteries.
  • Power Consumption: 0.2mA (standby), 80mA (working).
  • Frequency Range: 12Hz – 35KHz.
  • Motion Sensor Coverage Area: 864 sq. ft. (30' at 110 degrees). The device activates only when motion is detected within this range.
  • Effective Range: Up to 5,000 sq. ft. The coverage area is inversely proportional to the frequency; lower frequencies provide greater coverage. For areas with dense foliage or larger spaces, multiple units may be required.
  • LED Light Output (Night Mode): 320 lumens of flashing LED light.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The device can be hung using keyhole slots on the back or inserted into the ground using a ground stake. When inserting into the ground, ensure the ground stake is firmly placed.
  • Placement: Choose a location that receives at least 8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal battery charging and continuous operation. The motion sensor should not be covered or blocked.
  • Initial Setup: Before first use, open the back cover, remove the tab/plastic barrier from the rechargeable batteries to allow contact. Allow two full days of sunlight to charge the batteries while the unit is in the "OFF" position.
  • Motion Activation: The device normally remains in standby mode and activates only when motion is detected within its 30' range and 110-degree arc.
  • Adjustable Settings: Volume can be adjusted for audible sounds, and frequency can be set for ultrasonic/infrasonic waves to target specific pests.
  • Weatherproof Design: Designed for long-term outdoor use in various weather conditions.
  • Safety Precaution: Persons with pacemakers should consult their doctor before use.
  • Pet and Child Safety: Turn the Solar Yard Shield™ "OFF" if pets or children are in the protected area. It is not for use near children or pets like hamsters, gerbils, and ferrets.
  • Placement for Human Comfort: While the kHz range is generally above human hearing, the unit should not be used where people are present for prolonged periods. If sitting near the unit, turn it to the "OFF" position.
  • Ethical Use: The device is intended for personal property use only and should not be directed towards neighboring yards or areas.
  • Underground Utilities: Always check for underground utilities, cables, or wires before digging or installing to prevent personal injury, property damage, or death. Do not hit or strike the unit or stake to drive it into the ground, as this will damage the unit and void the warranty.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth with mild soap and water to clean the unit. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning agents, as these can damage the device. Keep the solar panel clean to ensure efficient charging.
  • Battery Care: If the unit will not be used for a long period, remove the batteries. Always recycle or dispose of used batteries in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Water Immersion: Do not immerse the Solar Yard Shield™ in water.
