Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the BLACK+DECKER CHV1410L Series Cordless Hand Vac. It provides detailed information on the product's features, usage, maintenance, and safety guidelines.

Function Description

The BLACK+DECKER CHV1410L Series Cordless Hand Vac is a portable vacuum cleaner designed for household use. It is equipped with a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery, offering cordless operation for convenience. The hand vac is intended for picking up dry debris and dust. It features an on/off switch, a dust bowl with a release button, and a nozzle with an extendable crevice tool and a flip-up brush for versatile cleaning. The nozzle can also be rotated for better access in tight spots. The unit comes with a charger base and a charger for recharging the battery.

Important Technical Specifications

The hand vac operates on a standard electrical outlet (120V/60Hz) for charging. The charger is designed to prevent overcharging of the Lithium Ion battery cells. The charging indicator light provides feedback on the battery status, including charging, full charge, weak battery, and damaged battery. The battery life can be significantly diminished if stored in a discharged state, so it is recommended to charge discharged batteries within one week. The charger and battery can be left connected indefinitely without damage. The operating temperature range for charging is between 39°F (4°C) and 104°F (40°C).

Usage Features

To operate the hand vac, slide the on/off switch forward to turn it on and backward to turn it off. After use, it is recommended to return the product to the charger immediately to ensure it is fully charged for the next use. The hand vac should never be used without its filter to prevent projectile/respiratory hazards.

The nozzle includes an extendable crevice tool (8) for reaching narrow spaces and a flip-up brush (9) for dusting. The nozzle itself can be rotated (7) by pressing a button (6) to adjust its angle for optimal access in various cleaning situations.

Maintenance Features

The hand vac's dust bowl and filters require regular cleaning for optimal performance. There are two methods for cleaning the bowl:

  1. Quick Empty Method: Press the two nozzle release buttons (6) on the sides of the nozzle and pull the nozzle straight off (Figure C). Empty the dust from the bowl (Figure D).
  2. Thorough Clean Method (Removing Dust Bowl and Filters): Press the release latch and pull the dust bowl straight off (Figure E). While holding the dust bowl over a bin or sink, pull out the filter to empty its contents. To replace the dust bowl, place it back onto the handle until it "clicks" firmly into position.

The product includes a cloth filter (12) and a plastic pre-filter (13). The filters are reusable and should be cleaned regularly. It is recommended to replace the filter every 6-9 months depending on the frequency of use.

Pre-filter Cleaning (Figure F): The pre-filter (F1) and pre-filter housing (F2) can be separated for better cleaning. Twist the pre-filter (F1) in a clockwise direction and lift it from the pre-filter housing (F2).

Quick Clean Filter (Figure G): Lift the filter cleaning handle. While holding the quick clean filter housing (G1), turn the filter cleaning handle (G2) to perform a quick clean of the filter. For more thorough cleaning, pull the filter out of the quick clean filter housing.

Both the dust bowls and filters can be washed in warm soapy water. It is crucial to ensure that the filters and the dust bowl are completely dry before re-fitting them to the unit.

For repairs, maintenance, and adjustments not listed in the manual, it is advised to use authorized service facilities and identical replacement parts to ensure product safety and reliability. Replacement filters are available from Black & Decker dealers or by calling 1-888-678-7278.

Safety Guidelines

The manual emphasizes several safety precautions:

  • Always read and understand all instructions before use.
  • Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.
  • Do not put the unit or charging base in water or other liquid to protect against electric shock.
  • Do not use the hand vac to pick up liquids, toxic substances, flammable or combustible liquids (like gasoline), or in areas where such substances may be present.

  • Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or charger, or if it malfunctions, is left outdoors, dropped into water, or damaged in any manner. Return it to an authorized service facility.
  • Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
  • Avoid abusing the cord; do not carry the charger or base by the cord, or yank to disconnect. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces and sharp edges.
  • Do not allow the cord to hang over table edges or touch hot surfaces.
  • Use the charger only in a standard electrical outlet (120V/60Hz) and only with this product.

  • Do not look into air vents when the unit is switched on, as small debris may be discharged.
  • The charger should be plugged in such that it is correctly oriented in a vertical or floor mount position.
  • Some household dust contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm (e.g., asbestos, lead).
