Do you have a question about the Black & Decker BD 100/6-ST and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document provides a comprehensive guide for the BLACK+DECKER air compressor, detailing its functions, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance procedures. The compressor is designed for generating compressed air for pneumatic tools and is intended for use in well-ventilated environments with ambient temperatures between +5°C and +40°C, free from dust, acids, vapors, and explosive or flammable gases.

Function Description:

The air compressor operates on an intermittent duty cycle, meaning it is designed for periodic use rather than continuous operation. To prevent overheating of the electric motor, it should not be operated for more than 50% of its duty cycle. If the compressor pumps air for more than 50% of an hour, its capacity will be less than the air output required for the application. Users must always ensure that the air volume requirements of accessories or attachments match the air volume supplied by the compressor. In case of overheating, a thermal cut-out will automatically interrupt the power supply if the temperature becomes too high. The motor will restart automatically once normal temperature conditions are restored. To facilitate restarting, it is crucial to press the pressure switch button, returning it to the "OFF" position and then to the "ON" position. The compressor is equipped with a pressure switch featuring a delayed-closing air discharge valve, which aids in motor startup. This means it is normal for air to escape from the valve for a few seconds when the tank is empty. When connected to a power source and the On/Off switch is in the "ON" position, the compressor will cycle automatically.

Important Technical Specifications:

The compressor's performance is guaranteed for operation between 0 and 1000 meters above sea level. The acoustic pressure measured at 4 meters in an open field is equivalent to the acoustic power value indicated on the yellow label, minus 20 dB. The maximum permissible pressure for the pressure vessel is set by the safety valve. The electrical specifications include voltage (V), frequency (Hz), absorbed current (A), and power in (kW) and (HP). The air displacement is measured in (l/min) and (cfm), and the air delivered by the compressor is also measured in (l/min) and (cfm). The maximum operating pressure is specified in (bar) and (PSI), and the tank capacity in (l). The revolutions per minute (RPM) and weight (kg) are also provided. The guaranteed sound power level is in dB(A), with the measured sound power level also in dB(A). The compressor also features a service factor and declarations of origin and manufacturing year.

Usage Features:

The compressor includes an On/Off (I/O) switch, which is the activation mechanism for starting and stopping the compressor. When the switch is in the "On" position, the motor and pump compress air until the tank pressure reaches the upper limit of the factory-set operating pressure. If the tank pressure drops below the factory-set "cut-in" pressure, the compressor will automatically restart. A regulated pressure gauge indicates the permissible pressure in the discharge line according to the regulator settings. A regulator knob is used to adjust the air pressure available in the discharge line; turning it clockwise increases pressure, and turning it counter-clockwise decreases it. A ball-type drain valve allows moisture to be discharged from the tank when opened. A quick connector is used to connect the air line to tools. A safety valve is installed to prevent overpressure in the air tanks, factory-set to activate only when tank pressure reaches a specified level. Any adjustments to this valve are strictly prohibited and can cause serious injury. The compressor also has a handle for lifting/moving, support feet, and an air intake filter.

Maintenance Features:

Before any cleaning or maintenance, the power plug must be disconnected from the socket. Users must wait until the compressor has completely cooled down to avoid burns. Before any cleaning or maintenance, the tank must be depressurized. Protective devices should be kept as free as possible from dust and dirt. The compressor should be wiped with a clean cloth or blown clean with low-pressure compressed air. It is recommended to clean the device immediately after each use. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents, as they can damage the plastic parts of the device. Ensure no water enters the inside of the device. The hose and spray tools must be disconnected from the compressor before cleaning. The compressor should not be cleaned with water, solvents, or similar substances. Condensate water must be drained daily by opening the drain valve (D) at the bottom of the pressure vessel. The compressor should be tilted towards the drain valve to ensure all moisture is removed. Condensate water must be disposed of environmentally at an appropriate collection point. The safety valve (F) should be activated periodically to ensure proper function. The compressor should be stored in a dry place inaccessible to unauthorized persons, always in an upright position. The device must be disconnected from the power supply, depressurized, and condensate drained before storage.

Troubleshooting:

The manual includes a troubleshooting section for common anomalies and their allowed interventions. For example, if the compressor stops and restarts autonomously after a few minutes, the cause is identified as thermal protection intervention due to motor overheating. The remedy is to clean the air passages in the conveyor and ventilate the room. If the compressor stops after several startup attempts, the same cause and remedy apply. If the compressor does not stop and the safety valve activates, the cause is irregular compressor operation or pressure switch malfunction, and the remedy is to unplug the device and contact a service center. Any other interventions not specified in the manual must be performed by authorized service centers using original spare parts. Unauthorized modifications can compromise safety and invalidate the warranty.
