Overview

This document provides the instruction manual for the BLACK+DECKER Cordless Hand Vac, available in catalog numbers BDH1600PL, BDH1800PL, and BDH2000PL (20V MAX*). It outlines the appliance's function, important safety guidelines, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance procedures.

Function Description:

The BLACK+DECKER Cordless Hand Vac is a portable, handheld vacuum cleaner designed for household use. Its primary function is to provide convenient and efficient cleaning for various surfaces, particularly for dusting and upholstery. The cordless design offers flexibility and ease of movement without being tethered to a power outlet. The integrated nozzle with a brush tool allows for versatile cleaning applications, while the removable dust bowl and washable filters ensure hygienic operation and easy disposal of collected debris. The appliance is equipped with rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries, emphasizing its cordless nature and portability.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source: Cordless, powered by rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries.
  • Battery Voltage: Maximum initial battery pack voltage (measured without a workload) is 20 volts. Measured under a workload, nominal voltage is 18 volts.
  • Charging Input: Standard electrical outlet (120V/60Hz).
  • Charging Temperature Range: Ambient temperatures between 50°F (10°C) and 104°F (40°C).
  • Filter Type: Plastic pre-filter and pleated filter, both re-usable and washable.
  • Charger: Manufacturer-supplied charger, intended for vertical or floor mount position.
  • Construction: Class II Construction (double insulated).
  • Warranty: Two-year limited warranty for defects in material or workmanship under home environment usage.

Usage Features:

  • On/Off Switch: A simple slide switch (1) to power the appliance on (position I) and off (position 0).
  • Pivoting Nozzle: The nozzle (4) can be rotated to various positions by pressing the pivot lock button (2), allowing for flexible cleaning angles.
  • Integrated Crevice Tool: A crevice tool (6) is stored under the appliance and can be extended for reaching tight spaces. It retracts by pressing a raised button.
  • Brush Tool: The nozzle features a brush tool (7) that can be folded forward, ideal for dusting and cleaning upholstery.
  • Charging Indicator: A blue LED (3) on the charging base blinks during charging and turns off when charging is complete.
  • Dust Bowl Release: A dedicated button (5) on the nozzle allows for easy release of the dust bowl (10) for emptying.
  • Cordless Operation: Provides freedom of movement for cleaning without the need for an electrical outlet during use.
  • Initial Charge: Requires an initial charge of at least 24 hours before first use.
  • Continuous Charging: The appliance can be left connected to the charger indefinitely, though unplugging after 24 hours is recommended to reduce power consumption.
  • Optimizing Suction Force: The bowl can be rotated to agitate the filter and remove dirt, helping to maintain optimal suction. Regular cleaning of the dust container and filters is crucial for sustained performance.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Cleaning: Both the plastic pre-filter (12) and the pleated filter (13) are re-usable and should be cleaned regularly.
    • To clean, the dust bowl is released, the transparent door (8) is opened, and contents are emptied.
    • The nozzle is rotated, and the dust container is pulled away from the base.
    • The pleated filter is removed from the pre-filter by pulling firmly.
    • Loose dust can be removed by tapping the filters vigorously.
    • Filters can be washed in warm, soapy water and must be completely dry before re-installation.
  • Dust Container Cleaning: The dust container can be wiped with a damp cloth or rinsed with warm soapy water and allowed to dry.
  • Filter Replacement: The filter should be replaced every 6 to 9 months or when worn/damaged. A replacement filter (cat. no. PVF110) is available from BLACK+DECKER dealers.
  • Appliance Cleaning: Use only mild soap and a damp cloth to clean the tool. Do not allow any liquid to get inside the tool or immerse the main body in liquid.
  • Battery Removal and Disposal: The product uses Lithium Ion rechargeable and recyclable batteries. When batteries no longer hold a charge, they should be removed and recycled. They must not be incinerated or composted. Instructions for removal involve disassembling the product after a complete discharge, detaching the lead connection, and disposing of batteries according to recommended guidelines, often through authorized service centers or recycling programs (RBRC™ Seal).
  • Service and Repairs: All repairs, maintenance, and adjustments (other than those described in the manual) should be performed by authorized service centers or qualified service personnel using identical replacement parts to ensure product safety and reliability.
