Summary

Blackbird Raven Assembly Instructions

Attach 90 Degree Brackets to Lower Box

Attach 90 degree brackets to the top, back side of the Lower Equipment Box, flush with the back of the top rail.

Attach Vertical Rails to Equipment Box

Lower 40-inch vertical rails onto the back side of the Equipment Box, flush with the bottom, and tighten bolts.

Install Caster Wheels and Rear Axle

Turn the assembly upside down to install caster wheels and the rear axle assembly using pre-installed hardware.

Position and Install Shelves and Monitor Box

Place the assembly on wheels, then slide the mixer shelf and Upper Monitor Box into place and secure.

Attach Top Handle Assembly

Slide the Top Handle Assembly onto vertical rails, aligning holes with the Monitor Box top rails, using a pre-installed T-Nut.

Final Checks and Finishing Touches

Overview

The Blackbird Raven is a versatile, modular cart designed for various professional applications, emphasizing ease of assembly, robust construction, and adaptable configurations. The cart's design allows for significant customization, making it suitable for carrying equipment, monitors, and other tools in a mobile setup.

Function Description:

The Blackbird Raven serves as a mobile equipment cart, providing a stable and organized platform for transporting and operating various devices. Its modular design allows users to configure the cart to meet specific needs, whether for audio-visual equipment, monitoring stations, or other professional tools. The cart is designed for quick assembly and disassembly, facilitating transport and storage. Key functionalities include:

  • Equipment Transport: Securely holds and transports various equipment, including monitors, mixers, and other tools, using dedicated boxes and shelves.
  • Mobile Workstation: Transforms into a mobile workstation with easily accessible components, allowing for on-the-go operation.
  • Customization: Offers a high degree of modularity, enabling users to add, remove, or reposition components like shelves and boxes.
  • Portability: Designed with wheels for easy movement and a structure that supports compact storage or transport when disassembled.

Important Technical Specifications:

The Blackbird Raven utilizes a robust construction primarily based on 40-inch vertical rails and various aluminum extrusion components.

  • Vertical Rails: Two 40-inch vertical rails form the primary structural backbone, providing height and mounting points for other components.
  • Support Gussets: Features both 2-hole and 4-hole support gussets, which are critical for reinforcing connections and ensuring structural integrity of the equipment boxes.
  • Equipment Boxes: Includes a "Top Equipment Box" and a "Lower Equipment Box," both designed to slide down from the top of the vertical rails. These boxes likely feature internal mounting points for equipment.
  • Sliding Shelf: A "Sliding Shelf" is integrated, also designed to slide down from the top, offering an adjustable surface for various items.
  • Axle Housing: The cart incorporates an axle housing for the rear wheels, complete with an axle, lock collars, white bushings, and axle set screws, ensuring smooth rotation and secure wheel attachment.
  • Caster Wheels: The cart is equipped with caster wheels, mounted on "Caster Wheel Plates," providing maneuverability. The manual indicates four nuts are pre-installed for the caster wheels, with two on each side.
  • Handle Assembly: An "Upper Wheel and Handle Assembly" is provided for steering and pushing the cart.
  • Fasteners: The assembly relies on bolts and T-Nuts. T-Nuts are pre-installed in specific rails (e.g., for the bottom equipment box and the top rail of the monitor box), simplifying the attachment process.
  • Material: Components like the 1x2 black end caps suggest aluminum extrusion, known for its lightweight and strong properties.

Usage Features:

The Blackbird Raven is designed with user-friendliness and adaptability in mind.

  • Modular Assembly: The assembly process is highly modular, with components sliding into place along the vertical rails. This allows for flexible configuration and easy modification.
  • Top-Down Component Installation: Equipment boxes and shelves are designed to "slide down from the top" of the vertical rails, simplifying their placement and adjustment.
  • Secure Fastening: The use of bolts and pre-installed T-Nuts ensures secure connections for all components, contributing to the cart's stability and safety.
  • Maneuverability: Caster wheels provide easy movement, while the upper wheel and handle assembly offer ergonomic control.
  • Upside-Down Assembly for Wheels: The manual specifically instructs turning the assembly upside down to install caster wheels and the rear axle, indicating a practical approach to component installation.
  • Flush Mounting: Instructions emphasize achieving flush mounting for critical components, such as the bottom gusset of the axle housing with the vertical rails, and the bottom of the vertical rail with the equipment box, ensuring structural integrity and proper alignment.
  • Adjustable Shelf: The "mixer shelf" can be slid down from the top, allowing users to position it at a desired height.
  • Handle Integration: The "Top Handle Assembly" slides onto the outside of the vertical rails and aligns with the top rails of the "Monitor Box," integrating the handle seamlessly with the cart's structure.

Maintenance Features:

While the manual primarily focuses on assembly, several aspects imply ease of maintenance and long-term durability.

  • Replaceable End Caps: The instruction to "Unbolt 1x2 black end caps and replace when finished" suggests that these caps are designed to be removable, possibly for access to the extrusion channels or for replacement if damaged.
  • Bolt Tightness Checks: The final step explicitly states, "Check all bolts for tightness," which is a crucial maintenance practice to ensure the cart remains stable and safe over time. This implies that periodic checks and re-tightening of bolts may be necessary.
  • Modular Component Replacement: The modular nature of the cart means that individual components, if damaged, can likely be replaced without needing to replace the entire cart, extending its lifespan.
  • Durable Construction: The use of aluminum extrusion and robust fasteners suggests a design intended for heavy use and longevity, minimizing the need for frequent repairs.
  • Axle Set Screws: The presence of "Axle Set Screws" indicates a mechanism for securing the axle, which might require occasional adjustment or tightening to prevent play in the wheels.
