Overview

This document describes the installation, operation, and maintenance of Roman Blinds from Blinds2go.

Function Description:

The Roman Blind is a window covering designed to provide light control and privacy. It operates using a chain mechanism that allows the user to raise and lower the fabric. The design incorporates safety features, particularly concerning child safety, to prevent entanglement with cords.

Installation:

The installation process begins with fitting the brackets, which offer two methods of installation:

  1. Top-Fixing: This method involves using a single hole in the top of the bracket to fix it to the lintel (the 'ceiling' of the recess).
  2. Face-Fixing: This method uses two screws through the back plate to mount the bracket onto a facing surface, such as a wall or window frame.

For optimal placement, the outermost brackets should be positioned at least 5cm away from the ends of the rail. Any additional brackets should be evenly distributed across the width of the blind. For safety reasons, the top of the blind must be installed at least 150cm (1500mm) from the floor.

Once the brackets are in place, the blind itself is fitted. This involves situating the front lip of the headrail into the front of the bracket, then pushing the back of the headrail upwards to lock it into the back of the bracket. To release the blind after installation, the user must firmly push against the blind's headrail to disengage it from the front of the bracket, while simultaneously twisting the back of the headrail downwards to release it from the back.

Child Safety Features:

The manual emphasizes critical child safety warnings regarding the potential for strangulation by loops in pull cords, chains, tapes, and inner cords. To mitigate this risk, users are advised to:

  • Keep cords out of the reach of young children to prevent them from becoming wrapped around a child's neck.
  • Move beds, cots, and furniture away from window covering cords.
  • Avoid tying cords together.
  • Ensure cords do not twist and create a loop.

A cord retaining device is provided and must be installed at the maximum distance possible from the control mechanism to prevent looped cords from becoming slack. The installation of this device involves marking the position of the screw hole(s) on the wall with a pencil, then attaching the device to the wall using the provided fixings.

Usage Features (Operating the Blind):

The Roman Blind is operated using a chain mechanism. To lower the blind, the user pulls down on the front part of the chain. To raise the blind, the user pulls down on the rear part of the chain.

A "Top Tip" is provided for troubleshooting uneven blind operation: If the blind falls to one side, it is likely due to incorrect pulling of the controls, causing the cords to roll up unevenly. To correct this, the user should fully lower the blind by pulling the front of the chain, then continue pulling the chain until it raises to the top. This process should even out the blind. To prevent recurrence, users should ensure the chain is always pulled in the correct direction.

Maintenance Features (Removing the Fabric for Cleaning):

The fabric of the Roman Blind can be easily removed for cleaning, such as dry-cleaning.

  • Front Attachment: The fabric attaches to the front of the headrail with Velcro. To remove, simply peel the fabric away from the headrail.
  • Back Attachment: At the back, the cords attach to the fabric using clips. These clips are designed in two parts and also serve as a child-safety feature. They can be easily unclipped to separate the cords from the fabric.

This comprehensive guide ensures users can safely and effectively install, operate, and maintain their Roman Blinds.
