Overview

The Blue Phantom™ Arm Ultrasound Training Model (BPA304) is a highly realistic and durable simulation phantom designed for hands-on training in ultrasound-guided vascular access procedures, specifically for PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter), I.V. (Intravenous), and arterial line access. This model provides a platform for clinicians to develop and refine psychomotor skills in a simulated clinical environment.

Function Description:

The primary function of the BPA304 model is to provide a realistic training experience for ultrasound-guided vascular access. It allows users to practice needle insertion, catheter placement, and fluid withdrawal in simulated blood vessels. The model is designed to mimic the imaging characteristics and tactile feel of human tissue, ensuring that the training experience closely resembles real-world procedures. The included chest piece allows for verification of catheter placement via ultrasound, simulating a complete procedural workflow. Maintenance Features:

  • Refilling Vessels: The model's vessels can be refilled with Blue Phantom™ Red or Blue Ultrasound Refill Solution. The refilling process takes approximately 15 minutes and involves using a syringe to aspirate air and infuse fluid into the arterial and venous lines. Proper technique includes elevating the tubing and gently tapping the model to purge air.
  • Fluid Level Monitoring: Users can determine if the model requires refilling by observing the ultrasound image; an optimally filled vessel appears anechoic (black echo-free lumen), while a low fluid level or air within the vessel will show as hyperechoic (bright white) areas or air within the lumen.
  • Cleaning: After each use, the training model can be easily cleaned with mild soapy water (one part liquid soap to one part tap water). The model should be gently rinsed to remove debris and then dried with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth using a dabbing motion to avoid scuffing the simulated tissue.
  • Storage: The model should be stored at room temperature on its black thermoform platform. It is crucial to avoid storing the model in contact with other objects, as the soft simulated tissue can conform to the shape of the object, leading to deformation.
  • Warranty: Blue Phantom™ provides a one-year warranty against defects in workmanship and materials from the date of purchase. This warranty covers normal consumer usage and does not cover damage from alteration, accident, misuse, vandalism, neglect, or use inconsistent with written instructions.
