Overview

This document is an installation manual for the THBF805 Master Vision thermostat.

Function Description:

The THBF805 Master Vision is a programmable thermostat designed to control heating and cooling systems. It supports various system types including Gas or Oil Heat, Electric Furnace, Heat Pump (No Aux. or Emergency Heat), Heat Only Systems, Cool Only Systems, and Millivolt systems. It offers different programming options, including 7-day, 5+1+1 day, or non-programmable modes, allowing users to customize temperature settings for different time periods (WAKE, LEAVE, RETURN, SLEEP) throughout the day and week. The thermostat can be powered by batteries, hardwire (common wire), or hardwire with battery backup.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Wire Specifications: Use shielded or non-shielded 18-22 gauge thermostat wire.
  • Terminal Designations:
    • C: Common wire from secondary side of cooling system transformer
    • O: Heat pump changeover valve energized in cooling
    • B: Heat pump changeover valve energized in heating
    • W: Heat relay
    • RH: Transformer power for heating
    • RC: Transformer power for cooling
    • G: Fan relay
    • Y: Compressor relay

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The thermostat should be installed approximately 4 to 5 feet above the floor in an area with average temperature and good air circulation. It should not be installed near hot or cold air ducts, in direct sunlight, on an outside adjacent wall, in areas that do not require conditioning, near dead spots or drafts, or near concealed chimneys or pipes. The subbase can be mounted horizontally or vertically.
  • Battery Installation: Optional if hardwired (R and C terminals connected to 24V power). Requires 2 AAA alkaline batteries (included). High-quality alkaline batteries are recommended for a 1-year life span.
  • Thermostat Quick Reference: The display shows the current room temperature, user-selectable setpoint temperature, and system operation indicators (compressor delay if flashing). It also indicates when a permanent hold is active.
  • Programmable Time Periods: Residential use includes four time periods: WAKE, RETURN, LEAVE, and SLEEP.
  • Low Battery Indicator: Displays when batteries need replacement.
  • Technician Setup Options:
    • Filter Change Reminder: Adjustable from OFF to 2000 hours of runtime in 50-hour increments.
    • Room Temperature Calibration: Allows adjustment of the displayed room temperature by up to 4° above or below the factory calibrated reading.
    • Minimum Compressor On Time: Selectable from "off," "3", "4", or "5" minutes to ensure the compressor runs for a minimum duration.
    • Compressor Short Cycle Delay: "ON" prevents the compressor from turning on for 5 minutes after it was last switched off, protecting the compressor.
    • Cooling/Heating Swing: Adjustable from 0.2° to 2.0° to control cycle frequency.
    • Heating/Cooling Temperature Setpoint Limit: Allows setting maximum heat and minimum cool setpoint values (Range 5°C - 32°C).
    • F° or C° Selection: Choose between Fahrenheit and Celsius display.
    • 12 or 24 Hour Clock: Select the desired clock format.
    • Fan Operation: Select GAS (system controls fan) or ELEC (thermostat controls fan) during a call for heat.
    • Morning Recovery: Starts heating early to reach the programmed setpoint by the WAKE time period.
    • Program Options: Configure for 7-day, 5+1+1 program, or non-programmable.
    • Display Light: Configurable to come on only when a key is pressed ('AUTO') or always on ('ON').
    • Contractor Call Number: If enabled, the contractor's phone number will display after a continuous call for heating/cooling for 24 hours or if the FAN button is held for 3 seconds.
    • Beep: Audible beep when a key is pressed (ON/OFF).
    • System Switch: Configurable for various applications: Heat-Off-Cool, Heat-Off, Cool-Off, Heat-Off-Cool-Auto (Auto=Auto-changeover).
    • Cooling Fan Delay: Delays fan turn-on in cool mode and keeps it running after compressor shuts off (OFF, 15, 30, 60, or 90 seconds).
    • Factory Default Reset: Resets all settings.
  • Keypad Lockout: The keypad can be locked or unlocked by holding the MENU button for 3 seconds after exiting technician setup.
  • Auto Changeover: If set to Auto, the thermostat can switch between Auto Heat and Auto Cool once the current mode has reached its setpoint.
  • Programmable Fan: The fan can be programmed to run continuously during specific time periods to circulate air and eliminate hot/cold spots.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Change Reminder: Alerts the user when it's time to change the filter.
  • Mercury Notice: All products are mercury-free. If replacing a product containing mercury, dispose of it properly according to local waste management authority instructions.
  • Reminders Note: Elapsed time for reminders can be checked in technician setup or by holding the 3rd button from the left for 3 seconds. Expired reminders can be reset without entering technician setup by holding the 3rd button from the left for 3 seconds.
