Overview

This document serves as the owner's manual for an outdoor gas fire pit, model number GN1Q121S and item number 140292, manufactured by Bluegrass Living. It provides comprehensive instructions for assembly, operation, maintenance, and safety, emphasizing outdoor use only and not for commercial purposes.

Function Description

The Bluegrass Living outdoor gas fire pit is designed to provide warmth and ambiance in an outdoor setting. It operates on either LPG-Propane or Natural Gas, with specific pressure requirements for each fuel type. The appliance features a burning system that uses glass beads to create a decorative flame. It includes a lid for covering the burning system when not in use, a rain cover for protection, and a glass windshield to enhance safety and flame stability. The fire pit is equipped with an ignition system that requires a 1xAAA battery (not included) for operation. The gas flow and flame intensity are controlled via a control knob.

Usage Features

The manual outlines a detailed operation checklist to ensure safe and pleasurable use. Before operating, users are advised to familiarize themselves with the entire manual, ensure all components are properly assembled and intact, and verify that all gas connections are secure and leak-free. The fire pit should be used outdoors, in a well-ventilated area, and away from combustible materials, windows, air intake openings, sprinklers, and other water sources. A minimum clearance of 36 inches from the sides and rear, and 6 feet from the ceiling, is required for combustible materials. The unit's efficiency may be reduced below 40°F (4.44°C).

The lighting instructions detail a step-by-step process:

  1. Ensure the control knob is in the "OFF" position.
  2. Connect the propane cylinder (or open the natural gas supply line).
  3. Push and turn the control knob counter-clockwise to "LOW."
  4. Press the IGNITION button and hold for up to 5 seconds to light the burner.
  5. Release the control knob after 45 seconds.
  6. If ignition does not occur within 45 seconds, the user should push and turn the burner control knob to "OFF," wait 5 minutes, and repeat the lighting procedure.
  7. If the igniter fails, a long match or butane lighter can be used.
  8. The flame can be adjusted to the desired intensity using the control knob.

The manual also provides instructions for installing the LP gas tank, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the tank valve is closed before connecting and securing the tank upright in the tank tray. For natural gas connections, it describes how to connect the gas hose to a quick disconnect socket, which automatically permits gas flow when connected and shuts off when disconnected.

A storage feature is included for the table cover, illustrating how to place it on the fire pit when not in use. The glass windshield assembly instructions are also provided, detailing how to attach the glass panels to the fire pit.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of the fire pit. All cleaning and maintenance should be performed when the fire pit is cool and with the fuel supply disconnected. Users are warned not to clean any part of the fire pit in a self-cleaning oven or enlarge valve orifices or burner ports. Abrasive cleaners and oven cleaner should not be used.

Before each use, the following checks and cleaning procedures are recommended:

  • Keep the fire pit area clean and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.
  • Ensure the flow of combustion and ventilation air is not obstructed.
  • Keep the ventilation opening of the LP gas tank area free and clear from debris.
  • Visually check the burner flames for proper operation.
  • Inspect all gas connections for leaks.
  • Check components for any signs of damage or rust.
  • Clean the burner/venturi tubes for insects and insect nests, as a clogged tube can lead to a fire beneath the fire pit.
  • If any component is damaged, the fire pit should not be operated until repairs are executed.

For cleaning surfaces, a mild dishwashing detergent or baking soda mixed with water is recommended. For stubborn surfaces, a citrus-based degreaser and a nylon scrubbing brush can be used, followed by rinsing with cold water and towel drying.

Leak testing is a critical safety procedure that must be performed regularly:

  • After assembly and before first lighting.
  • Every time the LP gas cylinder is refilled, exchanged, or if any gas components are disconnected or replaced.
  • Any time the fire pit has been moved.
  • At least once per year or if the fire pit has not been used for more than 60 days. The leak test involves applying a mixture of 50% water and 50% liquid dishwashing soap to all gas connections and components. The presence of growing bubbles indicates a leak. Users are warned not to smoke or permit ignition sources during a leak test and to perform it outdoors in a well-ventilated area.

For storage between uses, the control knob should be turned to "OFF," the LP source disconnected, and the fire pit stored upright in an area sheltered from direct contact with inclement weather. Covering the fire pit is recommended to protect exterior surfaces and prevent debris build-up. Similarly, for extended inactivity or transport, the LP source should be disconnected, and the fire pit moved to a secure, well-ventilated outdoor location. The LP cylinder should never be exposed to direct sunlight or excessive heat.

The hose assembly should be inspected for excessive abrasion, cuts, or wear prior to each use and replaced if any damage is found. The replacement hose assembly must be specified by the manufacturer.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide to address common issues such as the burner not lighting, low burner flame, carbon build-up, and thick black smoke, providing possible causes and corrective actions for each.
