• Theapplianceshallbestored
soastopreventmechanical
damagefromoccurring.
• Checkthatcablingwillnotbe
subjecttowear,corrosion,
excessivepressure,vibration,
sharpedgesoranyother
adverseenvironmental
effects.Thecheckshall
alsotakeintoaccountthe
effectsofagingorcontinual
vibrationfromsourcessuch
ascompressorsorfans.
• Thefollowingleakdetection
methodsaredeemed
acceptableforsystems
containingammable
refrigerants.
• Electronicleakdetectorsshall
beusedtodetectammable
refrigerants,butthesensitivity
maynotbeadequate,ormay
needre-calibration.(Detection
equipmentshallbecalibrated
inarefrigerant-freearea.)
Ensurethatthedetectoris
notapotentialsourceof
ignitionandissuitableforthe
refrigerantused.
• Leakdetectionequipment
shallbesetatapercentage
oftheLFLoftherefrigerant
andshallbecalibratedtothe
refrigerantemployedandthe
appropriatepercentageofgas
(25%maximum)isconrmed.
• Leakdetectionuidsare
suitableforusewithmost
refrigeransbuttheuseof
detergentscontainingchlorine
shallbeavoidedasthe
chlorinemayreactwiththe
refrigerantandcorrodethe
copperpipe-work.
• Ifaleakissuspected,all
nakedamesshallbe
removed/extinguished.
• Ifaleakageofrefrigerantis
foundwhichrequiresbrazing,
alloftherefrigerantshallbe
recoveredfromthesystem,or
isolated(bymeansofshutoff
valves)inapartofthesystem
remotefromtheleak.Oxygen
freenitrogen(OFN)shallthen
bepurgedthroughthesystem
bothbeforeandduringthe
brazingprocess.
• Beforecarryingoutthis
procedure,itisessential
thatthetechnicianis
completelyfamiliarwiththe
equipmentandallitsdetail.
Itisrecommendedgood
practicethatallrefrigerants
arerecoveredsafely.Prior
