This document is a maintenance manual for 2022 BMW i4 and iX vehicles, outlining the recommended service procedures, intervals, and coverage under the BMW Ultimate Care Scheduled Maintenance Program.
Function Description:
The manual serves as a comprehensive guide for owners and authorized BMW centers to ensure the proper maintenance and reliability of 2022 BMW i4 and iX vehicles. It details the Condition Based Service (CBS) system, which dynamically monitors vehicle maintenance needs based on sensors, algorithms, elapsed time, and driving profile. This system adapts maintenance task intervals to actual operating conditions, moving beyond conventional fixed time or mileage-based schedules. The CBS system helps forecast when specific maintenance tasks are required and alerts the driver accordingly. The manual also provides information on the BMW Ultimate Care Scheduled Maintenance Program, which covers specific factory-recommended maintenance services for eligible vehicles.
Important Technical Specifications:
The maintenance intervals are determined by the Condition Based Service (CBS) system, which uses vehicle sensors and algorithms. This system monitors various parameters including:
- Vehicle check: Date and miles.
- Brake pads: Front and rear (miles remaining). The status is observable when approximately 2,000 miles or less remain before service.
- Brake fluid: Date.
- Cabin microfilter(s): Identified as needing service in conjunction with a specific Vehicle Check service task (service counter number).
- Remote control key battery: Covered under maintenance services.
- Ventilation microfilter: Replaced every 2 years based on vehicle production date or in connection with a scheduled vehicle check.
Long-term rated fluids and oils are factory-filled and generally only require replacement when repairs are being performed, unless otherwise noted. These include the electrical machine cooling system (antifreeze/coolant) and automatic transmission fluid.
Usage Features:
The vehicle's iDrive Control Display allows the driver to access current service status and maintenance requirements.
- Accessing Service Information:
- Open the start/home menu.
- Press the controller (or use touch screen) to open the i-menu, then select "Live Vehicle."
- Select "Vehicle Status," then "Required Services."
- Select the desired Service to view detailed information.
- Service Indicators:
- White indicator: Next service due within 3,000 miles or 3 months.
- Yellow indicator: Next service due within 1,200 miles or 1 month.
- "OK" symbol: No service currently required.
- Triangle symbol (yellow): Deadline for service or state inspection is approaching.
- Triangle symbol (red): Service deadline has already passed.
- Remote Control Key: The vehicle's maintenance service task status information is continually updated and stored in the remote-control key. This allows authorized BMW centers to access pertinent vehicle and servicing data using a key reader, generating a customized maintenance checklist.
- Owner's Manual: The manual refers to the Owner's Manual for additional information on regular checks such as washer fluid level, coolant level, brake fluid level, and tire pressure/condition.
- BMW Driver's Guide App: A customized Owner's Manual app is available for smartphones and tablets, offering offline access to information.
Maintenance Features:
The manual details various maintenance services, categorized as "Standard Operations," "Maintenance Services Connected to a Specific Service," and "Maintenance Services that Display in CBS."
Standard Operations:
- Verify Check Control messages.
- Check indicator and warning lights.
- Reset CBS display.

BMW Ultimate Care Scheduled Maintenance Program:
- Coverage: For 2022 vehicles purchased from an authorized BMW center in the United States (including Puerto Rico), coverage is for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Coverage begins on the date of first retail sale or when the vehicle is first placed into service as a sales demonstrator, Aftersales Mobility Program (AMP) Vehicle, or BMW Group company vehicle, whichever is earlier.
- Transferability: The remaining program coverage is transferable to subsequent owners.
- Covered Services: Brake fluid replacement, Vehicle check (inspection), Standard scope (procedure), Cabin microfilter(s), and Remote control key battery. If a covered task specifies inspection of components with an adjustable element, and adjustment is required and performed with the maintenance service, it is also covered.
- Exclusions: Front and rear "standard" brake pads and discs, parking brake shoes/linings, wiper blade assemblies and inserts. Also excludes vehicle safety inspection, services on ineligible/inactive/expired programs, repairs covered under New Vehicle Limited Warranty, services by non-authorized centers, "topping off" low fluids (unless with a covered service), tires and wheels/rims, wheel alignment/balancing/rotation, Tire Pressure Monitor reset (unless with a covered service), wear and tear of soft trim items, damage from negligence/improper operation/wear and tear/environmental influences/accidents/corrosion/alteration/non-genuine parts, altered VIN/odometer, services after total loss/salvage, and vehicles used in competitive events.
- Upgrade/Extension Options: BMW Ultimate Care + is available for purchase to enhance or extend coverage.
BMW recommends having maintenance and repair work performed by an authorized BMW center and keeping records of all maintenance and repairs. Using non-genuine BMW parts may void coverage for repairs related to those parts or resulting damage.
