Overview

The BNCE-45 Cutting Edge Saw™ is a corded power tool designed for fast and efficient cutting of various ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is primarily intended for flush cutting or free cutting reinforcing bars, coil rod, and all-threaded rod used in construction, but its multipurpose design allows for use by a variety of contractors.

Function Description:

The BNCE-45 Cutting Edge Saw operates by means of a rotating carbide-tipped blade that cuts through materials. It is equipped with a safety trigger switch and a trigger lock for controlled operation. The tool features a rotating handle that can be adjusted 180 degrees for comfortable gripping and optimal control during use. A chip exhaust system, which can be fitted with a chip collection attachment (catch bag), helps manage debris during cutting. The cutting channel includes guides and the blade to ensure precise cuts.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage/Amperage: 120V 60Hz / 9A
  • Watts: 1100W
  • Replacement Blade: 6.5" (165 mm) Tungsten Carbide Tipped (RB-BNCE-45 Standard). A Strut Blade (RB-BNCE-45S) is also available/sold separately.
  • Cutting Capacity:
    • Rebar: #11 (1-3/8"; 35.8 mm)
    • Strut: 1-5/8"
  • No Load RPM: 1200
  • Depth of Cut: 1-7/8" (47.6 mm)
  • Dimensions (Length x Width x Height): 20" x 8" x 7" (515 mm x 155 mm x 101 mm)
  • Net Tool Weight: 10.5 lbs. (4.8 kg)
  • Included Accessories: Heavy-Duty Carrying Bag, two Allen Wrenches, one installed RB-BNCE-45 standard blade, one replacement RB-BNCE-45 standard blade, a set of replacement carbon brushes, and a chip collection attachment.

Usage Features:

  • Adjustable Handle: The rear handle position can be adjusted using a button on top of the handle, allowing the user to find a comfortable grip. The front handle can also be positioned in a mounting hole for optimal grip.
  • Operation: To start the saw, the trigger lock button (located on the left side above the trigger) must be depressed, followed by depressing the trigger itself. The saw should be started before cutting, and light pressure should be applied while moving forward through the cut.
  • Safety Precautions: Users are advised to wear eye protection and other personal protective equipment (dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, hearing protection). The tool should not be operated in explosive atmospheres, wet conditions, or while tired or under the influence of drugs/alcohol. The cord should be kept away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Unintentional starting is prevented by ensuring the switch is off before connecting to power or handling the tool.
  • Work Area: The work area should be clean, well-lit, and free of children and bystanders.
  • Blade Direction: BN Products-USA™ blades are marked "This Side Up" and include a directional arrow, which must align with the arrow marked on the top side of the blade cover to ensure correct installation.
  • Operating Conditions: The tool is designed for use under ambient temperatures up to 100°F (37.8°C). Operating at higher temperatures may cause motor overheating. It should not be used in damp locations unless protected by a residual current device (RCD). The tool should not be exposed to rain or wet conditions and should not be used outdoors with an unsuitable extension cord. It is not recommended to operate the tool below freezing (32°F / 0°C).

Maintenance Features:

  • Routine Cleaning: The saw should be unplugged before any maintenance. The entire unit should be cleaned occasionally to remove dust, debris, and oils. The bottom plate should be removed periodically to clear cutting chips lodged near the blade.
  • Blade Inspection: The cutting blade should be removed and inspected for material residue after 4-8 hours of use. It should be replaced when dull, visibly worn, or when cutting efficiency decreases.
  • Chip Collection: The Cutting Chip Catch Bag should be emptied when it is approximately 2/3 full of debris.
  • Blade Replacement Procedure:
    1. Unplug the saw.
    2. Use the smaller Allen key to remove the four screws holding the Blade Cover.
    3. Carefully remove the cover, setting aside the screws and locking nuts.
    4. Press the blade/spindle lock button (Figure 1) to secure the blade spindle. Manually rotate the blade if necessary for the lock to engage.
    5. Use the larger Allen key to remove the blade mounting screw and blade locking head by rotating counter-clockwise.
    6. Clean any metal debris from the blade head area.
    7. Install the new blade, ensuring the "This Side Up" marking and directional arrow align correctly.
    8. Replace the blade locking head and mounting screw, tightening clockwise with the Allen key (do not overtighten).
    9. Replace the blade cover, securing the four mounting screws (do not overtighten).
  • Carbon Brush Inspection and Replacement:
    1. Unplug the tool and allow it to cool.
    2. Locate the Brush Cap(s) on either side of the saw (Figure 5).
    3. Use a small flathead screwdriver to turn the cap counter-clockwise and remove it.
    4. Remove the brush from the socket, gently prying the brass spring seat if needed.
    5. Inspect brushes after every 100 hours of use; they should be replaced if less than 1/4" of wearable surface remains.
    6. To reinstall/replace, insert the brush into the carrier socket, ensuring the brass spring seat fits completely for electrical connectivity.
    7. Reinstall the brush cap by threading it clockwise with a small flathead screwdriver (do not overtighten). This procedure applies to both brushes.
  • Tool Storage: Store idle power tools out of reach of children and persons unfamiliar with the tool.
  • Professional Service: Any damaged power tools should be repaired by a qualified person using identical replacement parts to ensure safety.

The BNCE-45 Cutting Edge Saw is backed by a One-Year Limited Manufacturer Warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under everyday and appropriate use.
