It is highly recommended to use dielectric unions. Dielectric unions can help
prevent corrosion caused by small electric currents common in copper water pipes
and can help extend the life of the water heater.
• The water connections of the water heater are located on the side
• The cold water connection is on the bottom
• The hot water connection is on the top
• By providing unions and shut off valves on the water connections, the
water heater may be disconnected for servicing when necessary
• Installation of mixing valve (field supplied) is recommend if not already
required by code
• All hook-ups must comply with all local codes
Water supply pressure should not exceed 80% of the working pressure of the water
heater. The working pressure is stated on the data plate. If this occurs, a pressure
limiting valve with a by-pass may need to be installed in the cold water inlet line.
This should be placed on the supply to the entire building in order to maintain
equal hot and cold water pressures.
If the water heater is enrolled in a utility DR program that allows the utility to
temporarily increase the storage temperature setpoint higher than set by the user,
a thermostatic mixing valve shall be installed. If used, the thermostatic mixing valve
shall:
• Be certified to ASSE 1017 - Performance Requirements for Temperature
Actuated Mixing Valves in Hot Water Distribution Systems
• Be installed according to the manufacturer’s installation instructions
• Be configured to limit the delivered water temperature to that required by
the user
Heat cannot be applied to the water fittings on the water heater as they may
contain nonmetallic parts. If solder connections are used, solder the pipe to the
adapter before attaching the adapter to the hot and cold water fittings.
Always ensure that all fittings are free from leaks.
