This document describes the Bosch Fridge-Freezer, model KGN.., a free-standing appliance designed for refrigerating and freezing food, as well as making ice. It is intended for home use and can operate up to a maximum height of 2000 meters above sea level.
Function Description
The appliance features separate compartments for refrigeration and freezing, each with independent temperature controls. The refrigerator compartment is ideal for storing meat, sausage, fish, dairy products, eggs, ready meals, and pastries. It includes a vegetable container with humidity control, allowing users to adjust humidity levels for optimal storage of fruits and vegetables. The freezer compartment is designed for storing deep-frozen food, making ice cubes, and freezing fresh food.
Key functions include:
- Temperature Setting: Users can set the refrigerator compartment temperature between +2 °C and +8 °C, and the freezer compartment temperature between -16 °C and -24 °C.
- Super Cooling: This mode sets the refrigerator temperature to its coldest setting for approximately 15 hours, useful for fast cooling of drinks or before placing large quantities of food in the refrigerator.
- Super Freezing: This function runs the appliance constantly at much lower temperatures than normal operation, ensuring food freezes solid as quickly as possible to retain vitamins, nutritional value, appearance, and flavor. It is recommended to switch this on 24 hours before placing fresh products in the freezer.
- Eco Mode: An energy-saving mode that automatically sets the refrigerator compartment to +8 °C and the freezer compartment to -16 °C.
- Alarm Functions: The appliance includes a door alarm (continuous sound if the door is open for over a minute) and a temperature alarm (flashes if the freezer section is too warm, indicating a risk of thawing).
- NoFrost System: The freezer compartment features a fully automatic NoFrost system, eliminating the need for manual defrosting.
Important Technical Specifications
- Refrigerant: The refrigeration circuit uses a small quantity of environmentally friendly but flammable refrigerant (R600a). The amount of refrigerant is indicated on the rating plate.
- Climate Class: The appliance is designed for specific climate classes (SN, N, ST, T), which determine the permitted ambient temperature range for operation. For example, SN allows operation from +10 °C to 32 °C.
- Electrical Connection: The appliance complies with protection class I and requires a 220–240 V/50 Hz alternating current connection via a correctly installed socket with a protective conductor, protected by a 10 A to 16 A fuse.
- Energy Consumption: Information on energy consumption and noises is provided in the accompanying documents. The appliance is compatible with mains and sine-controlled inverters.
- Freezing Capacity: The freezing capacity is indicated on the rating plate.
- Product and Production Numbers: These numbers (E no. and FD no.) are found on the rating plate and are essential for customer service inquiries.
Usage Features
- Interior Fittings: The appliance offers flexible interior configurations. Shelves in the door and glass shelves can be repositioned or removed for cleaning.
- Cold Storage Compartment: This compartment has lower temperatures than the main refrigerator, ideal for fish, meat, and sausage. Its temperature can be adjusted via a ventilation opening.
- Vegetable Container with Humidity Control: A slider allows adjustment of humidity for different types of produce: high humidity for vegetables or mixed loads, and low humidity for fruits or large loads.
- Butter and Cheese Compartment: A dedicated compartment for butter and cheese, designed for easy opening and cleaning.
- Breakfast Set: Removable containers for a breakfast set, allowing individual filling and easy access.
- Bottle Shelf: Provides secure storage for bottles.
- Ice Cube Tray: For making ice cubes. If stuck, it can be loosened with a blunt implement.
- Freezer Calendar: Symbols indicate the permitted storage period for different types of frozen produce in months, helping to prevent quality deterioration.
- Ice Pack: Can be removed to cool food temporarily or slow thawing during power failures.
- "OK" Sticker: (Not on all models) This sticker helps users check if the refrigerator compartment has reached the recommended safe temperature range of +4 °C or colder.
Maintenance Features
- Cleaning: The appliance should be cleaned with a soft cloth, lukewarm water, and a pH-neutral washing-up liquid. Abrasive, chloride, or acidic cleaning agents, solvents, and scouring sponges should not be used. Shelves and containers should not be cleaned in a dishwasher.
- Defrosting: The NoFrost system eliminates the need for manual defrosting of the freezer compartment. If the evaporator becomes covered in thick ice due to prolonged door opening, manual defrosting may be required by switching off the appliance and allowing the ice to melt.
- LED Light: The appliance features a maintenance-free LED light. Repairs to the lighting system should only be performed by customer service or authorized technicians.
- Energy Saving Tips: Recommendations include installing the appliance in a well-ventilated room away from direct sunlight or heat sources, allowing warm food to cool before placing it inside, thawing frozen food in the refrigerator compartment, and opening the appliance as briefly as possible.
- Troubleshooting: The manual provides a section for eliminating minor faults, guiding users to check common issues before contacting customer service.
- Spare Parts: Function-relevant genuine spare parts are available from Customer Service for at least 10 years from the date the appliance was placed on the market within the European Economic Area.
