This document describes the Bosch KIL82.. fridge-freezer, a built-in appliance designed for chilling and freezing food, and making ice cubes in private households.
The Bosch KIL82.. is a fridge-freezer combination appliance. The refrigerator compartment is designed for storing fresh food such as meat, sausage, fish, dairy products, eggs, prepared meals, and pastries. It features different chill zones, with the coldest zone being between the arrow stamped on the side and the shelf underneath, ideal for highly perishable foods. The warmest zone is at the very top of the door, suitable for foods that do not spoil easily, like hard cheese and butter. The freezer compartment is used for storing frozen food long-term, freezing fresh food, and making ice cubes. The appliance includes a "Super function" that intensifies cooling in both compartments, useful for quickly freezing larger quantities of fresh food. An alarm system is integrated, specifically a door alarm that activates if the appliance door remains open for a while, emitting a warning tone and flashing the interior light after 10 minutes.
The appliance is designed for full integration into a kitchen. It operates up to an altitude of 2000 m above sea level. The permitted room temperature for operation depends on the climate class, which is found on the rating plate. For example, an SN climate class allows operation between 10 °C and 32 °C, while a T climate class allows 16 °C to 43 °C. The appliance is fully functional within these ranges and will not be damaged down to 5 °C for SN class. The recommended niche depth for installation is 560 mm, with a minimum of 550 mm. An inside niche width of at least 560 mm is required. The weight of the appliance can be up to 65 kg depending on the model, requiring a sufficiently stable subfloor. The volume of refrigerant is indicated on the rating plate, and the appliance should only be installed in a space with a volume of at least 1 m³ per 8 g of refrigerant to prevent explosion risk in case of a leak. The refrigerator compartment temperature can be set from 2 °C to 8 °C, with 4 °C being the recommended setting. Long-term storage in the freezer compartment should be at -18 °C or lower. The freezing capacity, indicating the quantity of food that can be frozen within a specific period, is also found on the rating plate. The product contains a light source from energy efficiency class E, which is available as a spare part and should only be replaced by trained specialist staff. The control panel allows users to configure all functions and monitor the operating status. It includes a "super" button to activate or deactivate the Super function, temperature setting buttons for the refrigerator compartment, an alarm indicator, and a button to switch the appliance on or off. The refrigerator compartment features shelves and a bottle shelf that can be removed and re-inserted elsewhere to vary storage as needed. A fruit and vegetable container is provided for storing fresh produce, with recommendations to cover chopped items or store them in air-tight packaging to prevent condensation. The door racks are also adjustable. For optimal energy saving, users are advised to keep the appliance out of direct sunlight, away from heat sources, and ensure external ventilation openings are not blocked. When using the Super function for freezing, it should be switched on 4 to 6 hours before placing food weighing 2 kg or more. The appliance also has a self-test function to diagnose faults.
Regular cleaning and servicing are crucial for the appliance's long-term efficiency. Before cleaning, the appliance must be switched off and disconnected from the power supply. All food should be removed and stored in a cool place, and ice packs can be used if available. Any hoarfrost layer should be allowed to defrost. All fittings and accessories, including shelves, bottle shelves, door racks, and the fruit and vegetable container, can be removed for thorough cleaning. The condensation channel and drainage hole in the refrigerator compartment should be regularly cleaned, for example, with a cotton bud, to ensure proper drainage and prevent odours. The appliance surfaces, fittings, accessories, and door seals should be cleaned with a dish cloth, lukewarm water, and a pH-neutral washing-up liquid, then dried thoroughly. Harsh scouring pads, abrasive detergents, or cleaning products with high alcohol content should not be used, nor should steam or high-pressure cleaners. The freezer compartment requires regular manual defrosting to prevent hoarfrost build-up, which can impair refrigeration and increase power consumption. The defrosting process involves switching on the Super function beforehand, removing frozen food to a cool location, switching off the appliance, disconnecting it from power, and placing a pan of hot (but not boiling) water in the freezer compartment to accelerate thawing. Condensation water should be wiped up with a soft cloth or sponge. After cleaning and defrosting, all components should be re-installed, and the appliance reconnected to the electricity supply before returning food. If the appliance is to be taken out of operation for an extended period, it should be switched off, disconnected, emptied, defrosted, cleaned, and left with the door open to prevent mould formation.
