Overview

This document describes the Bosch WTN84200AU tumble dryer, providing installation, operating, and maintenance instructions.

Function Description

The Bosch WTN84200AU is a tumble dryer designed for domestic use, specifically for drying and freshening up household laundry. It is suitable for items that have been washed with water and are appropriate for tumble drying, as indicated by their care labels. The appliance operates by circulating air to remove moisture from laundry, with condensation water collected in a container or discharged via a drain hose. It features various programs and settings to accommodate different fabric types and desired dryness levels, including options for time-based drying, anti-crease, and low-heat drying. The dryer is equipped with a moisture sensor to detect residual moisture and adjust drying time accordingly, except in time programs.

Programs:

  • Cottons: Includes "Cupboard Dry" and "Iron Dry" options for hard-wearing, heat-resistant fabrics.
  • Easy-Care: Includes "Cupboard Dry" and "Iron Dry" options for synthetic or blended fabrics.
  • Sportswear: For self-drying performance fabrics.
  • AllergyPlus: For hard-wearing towels made of cotton.
  • Mix: For mixed loads of cotton and synthetic fabrics.
  • Timed Program Warm: For all types of fabric, suitable for pre-dried or slightly damp laundry and drying off multi-layered, thick laundry. Program length can be adjusted.
  • Timed Program Cold: For loosening up or airing clothing, or drying individual items. Program length can be adjusted.
  • Shirts/Blouses 15': For optimum drying results for up to 5 shirts.
  • Super 40': For synthetics and light cottons.
  • Down Wear: For fabrics, pillows, bedspreads, or eiderdowns filled with down; dry large items individually.
  • Wool Finish: For machine-washable wool fabrics; makes fabrics fluffier but not dry.

Buttons and Display Panel Features:

  • Drying Level: Fine adjustment of the dryness level (e.g., Cupboard Dry, Iron Dry). The dryness level can be increased in three stages.
  • Drying Time: Adjusts the program length for time programs (20 minutes to 3 hours, in 10-minute increments).
  • Finished In: Sets a program delay in 1-24 hours, indicating when the program should start.
  • 3 sec. (Childproof lock): Activates/deactivates the childproof lock.
  • Easy Iron: The drum moves laundry at regular intervals for 60 minutes after drying to prevent creasing. Automatic anti-crease function can be extended up to 180 minutes.
  • Low Heat: Reduces temperature for delicate fabrics like polyacrylic or elastane. Selecting this button extends the drying time.
  • Start/Pause: Starts or pauses the program.
  • Display Panel: Shows expected program duration, program progress (Wet, Iron Dry, Cupboard Dry, Anti-Crease, End, Pause), indicators for emptying condensate container and cleaning fluff filters, and selected settings like Anti-crease, Childproof lock, Low-Heat Drying, and program delay.
  • Signal Setting: Allows adjustment of the audible signal volume at the end of the program and for button signals (0 = off, 1 = quiet, 2 = medium, 3 = loud, 4 = very loud). Also allows setting the spin speed used for spinning laundry before drying.

Operation Steps:

  1. Load laundry and close the door.
  2. Switch on the dryer using the program selector.
  3. Select a program and adjust default settings if necessary.
  4. Press the Start button.
  5. The program status is indicated on the display field.
  6. To change a program or add laundry, open the door or press Start, make changes, close the door, and press Start again.
  7. At program end, remove laundry and switch off the dryer.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and energy efficiency.

Cleaning the Fluff Filter:

  • The fluff filter traps lint and hair during drying. A blocked filter reduces airflow, affecting performance and increasing drying time and energy consumption.
  • Procedure: Clean after each drying cycle. Open the dryer door, remove fluff from the door, remove the fluff filter, open it, remove all fluff, rinse under running water or clean in the dishwasher, dry, close, and reinsert.
  • Caution: Do not operate the dryer without a fluff filter or with a defective one.

Emptying the Condensate Container:

  • Condensation water collects in the container by default.
  • Procedure: Pull out the container horizontally, pour out the water, and push it back until it locks.
  • Note: If a drain hose is connected, the container does not need to be emptied.
  • Caution: Condensation water is not suitable for drinking and may be contaminated with fluff.

Draining the Condensation Water (Optional):

  • The dryer can be connected to a waste-water system using a drain hose.
  • Procedure: Remove accessories from the drum, detach the condensation hose from its socket, place it in the "parked" position, take the drain hose from accessories, and secure it to the free connecting piece.
  • Y-connection adapter: An optional adapter (order number 15000490) is available for connecting both washing machine and dryer drain hoses to the same outlet.

Cleaning the Dryer and Control Panel:

  • Clean with water and a soft, damp cloth.
  • Immediately remove detergent, spray, or other residues.
  • Do not use cleaning agents, pre-treating agents, high-pressure cleaners, or steam jet cleaners.

Cleaning the Heat Exchanger:

  • Requires cleaning once a month, depending on usage frequency. Debris can increase drying time and compromise results.
  • Procedure: Allow the dryer to cool, place an absorbent cloth beneath the maintenance flap, open the flap, turn both locking levers towards each other, remove the top cap and the heat exchanger. Flush water through the heat exchanger from all sides to remove all fluff. Remove fluff from seals, allow water to drip off, insert the heat exchanger, fit the top cap, and turn locking levers back.
  • Caution: Use only water to clean; do not use hard or sharp objects.

Cleaning the Moisture Sensor:

  • The dryer has a stainless-steel moisture sensor. Limescale or residues from detergents/care products can impair its function.
  • Procedure: Open the door and clean the moisture sensor with a coarse sponge.
  • Caution: Do not clean with abrasives or steel wool.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive list of common faults and their remedies, such as long drying times (fluff filter/heat exchanger dirty, blocked air inlet, high ambient temperature, insufficient ventilation), displayed drying time changes (normal adaptation to load), increased room humidity (ensure ventilation), and power cuts (interrupts program, remove laundry or restart). For persistent issues, contact after-sales service.
