2. Using Separate Components. Connecting Between the
Preamp and ihe Amplifier
The equalizer can be connected between separate prearrv
plifier and power emplitier units (see Figure 5). Thiis con*
nection method provides cornpiete flexibility of the pream¬
plifier tape monitor functions for use with or>e or two tape
recorders tn the corTventicnal manner. The disadvantage of
injs connection method involves using conventiortai loud*
speakers and headphones because the equalizer is per¬
manently wired into the circuit. (See SECTION IV.) If you do
connect the equalizer in this manner, it is suggested that
the gain controls of your power amplifier be reduced slight*
ly from fully ctockwrae for optimum system r>oise (consult
your amplifier owner’s manual for further recommen^lions)
3. Using the Preamp*Out/Main ln Circuit
An alternate method of connecting the BOSE Active Equal*
izer makes use of the PREAMP-OUT and MAIN-IN jacks
provided by many manufacturers on their receivers or in¬
tegrated amplifiers (see Figure 6). Usirtg the PREAMP-OUT/
MAIN'IN coonection jacks retains the total flexibility of the
tape monitor circuitry However, this method of connection
permanently connects the equalizer in the circuit; this may
prove inconvement if you are ueirtg conventionel speakers
or headphones. (See SECTION IV.) Due to the circuitry
characieristice of some receivers, the equalizer may not
function If connected to these jacks. Also, system noise
may ir>crea8e slightly due to the connectior> of the
equalizer immediatety before ihe power amplifier input.
