Overview

This document describes the BOYTONE® Portable CD/MP3 Player with FM Radio and USB & SD/MMC card reader, models BT6B and BT6R.

Function Description:

The device is a portable audio player capable of playing CDs and MP3 files. It includes an FM radio tuner and features a USB port and an SD/MMC card slot for playing media from external memory devices. It can be powered by batteries or an AC/DC adapter. The unit also has a headphone jack for private listening and an AUX-in jack to connect external audio sources, allowing it to function as a power amplifier for other devices.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: AC/DC adapter (100 - 240 V ~ 60 / 50 Hz) or 8 x 'C' size batteries (UM-2 or equivalent).
  • DC Input: 9V = 1A
  • Power Consumption: 9 Watts
  • CD Compatibility: CD-DA, MP3-CD
  • External Memory Support: USB data traveler, SD/MMC cards.
  • Radio Tuner: FM Radio (20 preset stations available).
  • Audio Output: Built-in speakers, 3.5mm stereo phones jack.
  • Audio Input: 3.5mm AUX-in jack.
  • Display: LCD with various indicators for mode, track information, time, and programming.

Usage Features:

General Operation:

  • Power On/Off: Press the STANDBY button to turn the unit on (standby indicator turns off) or off (standby indicator lights up).
  • Volume Control: Use the VOLUME CONTROL knob to adjust the listening level.
  • Source Selection: Press the SOURCE button repeatedly to switch between TUNER (FM radio), CD, USB, CARD, and AUX modes.

FM Radio:

  • Antenna: Fully extend and rotate the TELESCOPIC ANTENNA for best reception.
  • Tuning: Rotate and hold the TUN+/- control for several seconds for auto-searching, or briefly for manual tuning.
  • Storing Preset Stations:
    1. While listening to an FM station, press the MODE/PROG/MEM button. The "Preset NO" will flash on the LCD.
    2. Use the CH-/CH+ buttons to select a memory number (P01 - P20).
    3. Press MODE/PROG/MEM again to confirm.
    4. Repeat to store more stations.
  • Recalling Preset Stations: Repeatedly press the CH+/CH- buttons.

CD/MP3 Playback:

  • Loading a Disc: Open the CD door, place the disc label side up on the tray, and close the door. The player will begin reading the disc, displaying "READING" on the LCD.
  • Playback: After reading, the TOC (total of contents) or total albums/tracks (for MP3-CD) will show, and playback will begin from the first track.
  • Play/Pause: Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to pause (elapsed time flashes, "PAUSE" appears) or resume playback.
  • Stop: Press the STOP button to stop playback.
  • Skipping Tracks:
    • Press the SKIP UP button to skip to the next track. Press multiple times to skip further ahead.
    • Press the SKIP DOWN button to skip to the previous track. Press multiple times to skip further back.
    • For MP3-CDs, press the +10/ALBUM button to skip 10 tracks ahead (or 20 tracks with two presses).
  • Searching within a Track: Press and hold the SKIP UP or SKIP DOWN button to search rapidly within a track.
  • Repeat Modes:
    • Repeat Single Track: Press MODE once. The corresponding icon will show. Select the desired track using SKIP/SEARCH or +10/ALBUM buttons.
    • Repeat All Tracks: Press MODE twice. The corresponding icon will show.
    • Repeat Album (MP3-CD only): Press MODE thrice. Select the desired album using +10/ALBUM and SKIP/SEARCH buttons.
  • Introduction Play: Press MODE four times (or three times for CD-DA). The player will play the first ten seconds of each track sequentially. Press MODE again to exit.
  • Random Play: Press MODE five times (or four times for CD-DA). Tracks will play in a random sequence. Press STOP to exit, or PLAY/PAUSE to resume normal playback.
  • Programmed Play:
    1. In CD stop mode, press PROGRAM/EQ. "PROG" will show, and the track number/program sequence (P-01) will flicker.
    2. Select the first track to program using SKIP/SEARCH or +10/ALBUM.
    3. Press PROGRAM again to store and advance to the next step (P-02).
    4. Repeat for up to 20 tracks (CD-DA) or 99 tracks (MP3-CD).
    5. Press PLAY/PAUSE to begin programmed play.
    6. Press STOP to terminate. In program stop mode, press STOP again to clear the programming.

External Memory Media (USB/SD/MMC):

  • Insertion: Insert a USB data traveler into the USB port or an SD/MMC card into the card slot.
  • Selection: Repeatedly press the SOURCE button to select USB or CARD mode.
  • Playback: Similar playback modes (skip, search, repeat, introscan, random) are available as for CD/MP3.
  • Important Note: The product supports most common MP3 interfaces but cannot guarantee 100% compatibility due to evolving formats.

AUX-in Function:

  • Power On: Press STANDBY to power on the unit.
  • Mode Selection: Repeatedly press SOURCE to select AUX mode.
  • Connection: Connect your external audio device to the player's AUX-in jack using an audio cable (not supplied).
  • Playback: Power on your device and begin playing.

Headset Safety:

  • Avoid high volumes and continuous extended play.
  • Reduce volume or stop using if ringing in ears occurs.
  • Do not use while driving or riding a bike, as it can be a traffic hazard and may be illegal.
  • Even with open-air headsets, ensure volume is not so high that you cannot hear surrounding sounds.

Maintenance Features:

Battery Operation:

  • Remove the battery compartment cover.
  • Insert 8 x 'C' size batteries, observing correct polarities.
  • Replace the cover.
  • Note: Remove batteries if flat or if the player will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage. The AC/DC adapter must be detached for battery operation.

Disc Handling and Maintenance:

  • Handle discs by the edge; avoid touching the rainbow side.
  • Avoid long exposure to sunlight, high temperatures, and humidity. Store in a clean area.
  • Do not stick labels on discs or write on them with pointed articles.
  • Clean discs by wiping from the center outwards with a dry, soft cloth or disc brush. Avoid cleansing lotions or chemical eradicators.
  • Store discs in their cases when not in use.

General Safety Information:

  • Ventilation: Ensure sufficient space around the product for ventilation. Do not block ventilation openings or place on soft surfaces (bed, rug) or in enclosed spaces (bookcase, cabinet) that may impede airflow.
  • Heat Sources: Do not install near radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other heat-producing apparatus.
  • Flammable Items: Do not place lighted candles, cigarettes, cigars, etc., on the product.
  • Liquids/Objects: Do not expose to dripping or splashing liquids, and do not place liquid-filled objects (e.g., vases) on the apparatus. Take care that objects do not fall into the product.
  • Power Cord: Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched.
  • Attachments/Accessories: Use only manufacturer-specified attachments/accessories.
  • Cart Use: Exercise caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid tip-over.
  • Unplugging: Unplug during lightning storms or when unused for long periods.
  • Servicing: Refer all servicing to qualified personnel if damaged (power cord/plug, liquid spills, objects fallen in, rain/moisture exposure, abnormal operation, dropped).
  • Main Plug: The main plug is the disconnect device and must remain readily operable. To completely disconnect, the main plug should be disconnected from the mains socket outlet.
  • Disassembly: Do not attempt to disassemble the cabinet; it contains no user-serviceable components.
  • Marking Information: Located on the bottom of the apparatus.

Battery Precautions:

  • Risk of fire, explosion, or chemical burn if abused. Do not try to charge non-rechargeable batteries, incinerate, or puncture.
  • Non-rechargeable batteries (e.g., alkaline) may leak if left in the product for a long time. Remove them if not using for a month or more.
  • If using multiple batteries, do not mix types and ensure correct insertion to prevent leakage.
  • Discard leaky or deformed batteries immediately to avoid skin burns or personal injury.
  • Recycle or dispose of used batteries according to federal, state, and local regulations.
