When removing the probe, hold the cover to the
probe by the arrow tab to ensure that the cover is
removed with the probe.
8. Remove the probe sheath by holding the arrow tab
and pulling out the probe.
9. Place the used probe sheath into a biohazards waste
receptacle.
Rectal Measurements
This section describes rectal measurement, which can
only be made in Continuous mode.
1. Prepare and sheath the probe as described in
“Prepare the Probe” on page 25.
2. Ensure that the patient is lying comfortably on his or
her side.
3. Press the Temperature Start button to begin the
continuous temperature measurement. The progress
indicators in the Temperature display will begin to
flash.
4. Separate the buttocks with one hand and gently
insert the rectal temperature probe a maximum of 1.5
cm inside the rectal sphincter using the other hand.
Use a lubricating jelly on the temperature probe
sheath to ease insertion, if necessary. Tilt the
temperature probe until the tip is touching tissue.
Incorrectly inserting the temperature probe can
perforate the bowel of the patient.
