This document describes a Brandt cooking hob, an induction cooktop designed for domestic use. The manual provides comprehensive information on its installation, operation, maintenance, and safety guidelines.
Function Description
The Brandt cooking hob is an induction cooktop that uses electromagnetic fields to directly heat cookware, ensuring efficient and precise cooking. It features multiple cooking zones with varying power levels and sizes, including a "Horizon" zone that can be used as a single large zone or two separate zones. The hob is equipped with touch controls for power selection, timer settings, and special functions like "Boil" and "Recall." Safety features include child lock, residual heat indicators, anti-overflow protection, and auto-stop.
Important Technical Specifications
The hob is designed for built-in installation in a kitchen countertop.
- Dimensions: The manual provides detailed diagrams for installation, indicating specific cut-out dimensions for the countertop. For model A, the cut-out dimensions are 560 mm (width) x 490 mm (depth), with a minimum clearance of 40 mm from the front and sides, and 60 mm from the back. For model B, the cut-out dimensions are 560 mm (width) x 490 mm (depth), with a minimum clearance of 40 mm from the front and sides, and 60 mm from the back, and an additional R 6.5 radius. The overall hob dimensions are 580 mm (width) x 510 mm (depth) for model A and 580 mm (width) x 510 mm (depth) for model B.
- Electrical Connection: The hob can be connected to a 220-240 V~ (32A) or 400 V 3N~ (16A) power supply. It requires an all-pole cut-off device that complies with installation regulations. A disconnection device must be incorporated into the fixed wiring.
- Cooking Zones: The hob features multiple cooking zones with different diameters and maximum power outputs:
- 16 cm diameter: 2500 Watts (10-18 cm bottom diameter for cookware)
- 21 cm diameter: 3600 Watts (12-24 cm bottom diameter for cookware)
- Horizon zone: 4000 Watts (18-Oval cm bottom diameter for cookware)
- Safety Features:
- Child Safety Lock: Locks the hob controls to prevent accidental activation.
- Residual Heat Indicator: Displays "H" when a cooking zone is hot after use.
- Anti-overflow Protection: Automatically shuts off the hob if liquid overflows onto the control panel.
- Auto-Stop: Automatically turns off the hob after an excessive period of time (between 1 and 10 hours depending on the power used).
- Anti-overheat Protection: Monitors the temperature of the hob's bottom and reduces power or shuts off if it becomes too hot.
- Small Object Detection: The hob will not activate if small metallic objects (knives, forks, spoons) are placed on the cooking zones.
- Energy Efficiency: The manual includes an energy efficiency table (page 16) with specific values for energy consumption per cooking zone (EC electric cooking) and overall hob (EC electric hob). For example, EC electric cooking values range from 170.2 Wh/kg to 195.5 Wh/kg, and the EC electric hob is 180 Wh/kg.
Usage Features
- Choice of Cookware: Only induction-compatible cookware (steel, cast iron, enamelled steel, stainless steel with magnetic bottom) should be used. Glass, ceramic, aluminium, and non-magnetic stainless steel cookware are not suitable. Cookware with a thick and flat bottom is recommended for optimal performance and even heat distribution.
- Burner Selection: The hob automatically detects the size of the cookware and activates the appropriate burner. If the cookware is too small, the power indicator will flash, and the burner will not function.
- Switching On/Stopping: The hob is activated by pressing the power button and then selecting the desired zone. To stop, press and hold the button for the desired heat source or the general shutdown button.
- Power Setting (+/-): Power levels can be adjusted from 1 to 9 using the +/- touch controls. The "Ultra Boost" function provides maximum power for a short period.
- Timer Function: Each cooking zone has a dedicated timer that can be set for up to 99 minutes. The timer can be incremented in 1-minute steps from 0 to 15, and then in 5-minute steps from 5 to 99.
- Boil Function: This function is designed to bring water to a boil and maintain it for cooking pasta. It automatically adjusts power to boil water and then reduces it to maintain a gentle boil.
- Recall Function: This function allows users to temporarily turn off the hob for up to 30 seconds and then resume cooking with the previous settings.
- Horizon Zone: This flexible zone can be used as one large cooking area or two separate zones, offering versatility for different cookware sizes.
- Control Panel: The hob features a touch-sensitive control panel with illuminated indicators for power levels, timers, and active functions.
Maintenance Features
- Cleaning:
- For light dirt, use a disinfectant sponge moistened with hot water.
- For baked-on dirt or sweet overflows, use a disinfectant sponge and/or a special glass scraper. Remove large bits with a scraper, then clean with a disinfectant sponge and wipe off.
- For rings and hard water residue, apply warm white vinegar to the stain, let it sit, then wipe with a soft cloth.
- For shiny metal streaks or weekly maintenance, use a special vitroceramic glass product.
- Avoid using powders or abrasive sponges, creams, and special delicate glassware sponges.
- General Care:
- Do not use aluminium foil or aluminium trays on the hob.
- Do not place hot lids flat on the cooktop as this can damage the glass-ceramic top.
- Avoid rubbing cookware, as this may cause damage to the glass-ceramic top.
- Do not store cleaning agents or flammable products in the cabinet under the cooktop.
- Never use a steam cleaner to clean the hob.
- After-Sales Service: The manual provides contact information for Brandt's after-sales service in France, including phone numbers and addresses. It also advises users to note down the service and type references from the nameplate (located on the bottom of the appliance) when contacting service. The nameplate includes commercial reference (B), service reference (C), serial number (H), and a QR code (I).
