Safety Systems Overview

Overview

This document outlines the operation, maintenance, and safety guidelines for a coffee dosing grinder, an appliance specifically designed for grinding coffee beans. Any use outside of this intended purpose is considered unsuitable and potentially hazardous. Users are expected to be adults who adhere to all safety regulations and ensure regular routine maintenance and cleaning. The customer is responsible for ensuring that authorized personnel use the appliance correctly and that this manual is properly maintained. The manufacturer reserves the right to implement technical changes to the product and manual without prior notice.

Function Description

The coffee dosing grinder is engineered to efficiently grind whole coffee beans into a fine powder suitable for brewing. It features a bean hopper at the top where whole coffee beans are loaded. A micrometric adjustment dial allows for precise control over the fineness of the grind, catering to various brewing methods. The grinding process is initiated via a brewing keyboard, which offers options for single or double doses. Ground coffee is dispensed into a funnel/dispenser, ready for use. An integrated coffee presser helps to compact and level the ground coffee in a filter holder. The appliance is equipped with an ON/OFF switch for power control.

Usage Features

Start-Up and Installation:

Before initial use, the bean hopper must be securely placed in the grind adjustment dial and fixed with a screw to prevent removal. To set the grind, turn the adjustment dial clockwise until the grindstones touch, then turn it back counterclockwise five notches. This typically sets the grinder to a correct initial grind, though slight adjustments may be necessary. Whole coffee beans are then placed into the hopper, ensuring the coffee closing sheet is in the desired position (open or closed). The grinder's plug is inserted into a power socket, verifying that the voltage matches the technical data label. After electrical connection, open the coffee closing sheet and begin grinding by pressing the push-button. It's important to note that the grindstones will continue to rotate for a few seconds after the grinder is stopped. The grinder must never be left running without coffee.

Coffee Grinding Adjustment:

Grinding adjustment should always be performed while the grinder is in operation by authorized and qualified personnel. To achieve a finer grind, rotate the regulation handle clockwise. For a coarser grind, rotate it anti-clockwise. The numbered markings on the regulation handle indicate different grinding variations. A new grinding adjustment is also required whenever the grindstones are replaced; this must be performed by qualified personnel after disconnecting the appliance from power.

Coffee Dose Adjustment and Programming:

To dispense coffee, remove the hopper lid, fill the hopper with coffee beans, and then dispense the desired dose. For a single dose, press the "1 DOSE" push-button. The motor will activate for a pre-programmed time. The grinding phase can be stopped instantaneously by pressing the "1 DOSE" button again during operation. For double doses, press the "2 DOSES" push-button. Similar to single doses, the motor activates for a pre-programmed time, and the grinding can be stopped by pressing the "2 DOSES" button again. After grinding, use the special coffee presser to lightly press and level the ground coffee, removing any excess from the filter holder. The filter holder can then be inserted into an espresso machine for brewing.

Programming Coffee Doses:

To program the single dose, disconnect the machine, then switch it on. While the blue LED switches blink, press both switches simultaneously. Upon hearing three short sounds, the grinder is programmable. Press the "1 DOSE" button to start grinding and release it when the desired quantity (e.g., approximately 7 grams, dispensed in about 3 seconds) is reached. A longer "beep" sound confirms that the programming has been saved. The microprocessor will memorize the duration between the button press and release as the new single dose grinding time. To program the double dose, follow the same procedure: disconnect, switch on, and press both blue LED switches while they blink until three short sounds are heard. Press the "2 DOSES" button to start grinding and release it when the desired quantity (e.g., approximately 14 grams, dispensed in about 6 seconds) is reached. A longer "beep" sound will confirm the programming. The microprocessor will memorize this duration for future double dose grinding.

Safety Systems:

The grinder incorporates several safety systems to prevent access to moving parts during normal operation and to indicate when the grinder is switched on. These include:

  • A safety screw for hopper blockage on the hopper spout dial (A), which must never be removed during normal use.
  • Two fixing screws for the funnel lid (B), which must never be removed during normal use.
  • An anti-access coffee exit protection inside the hopper (C).
  • A light switch (ON/OFF switch) (D). These systems are crucial for user safety. If they are removed for cleaning or maintenance (when the grinder is switched off and unplugged), they must be correctly replaced to ensure safety. Using the grinder without these safety systems is strictly forbidden.

Maintenance Features

All maintenance and cleaning operations should be performed by authorized and qualified personnel. It is crucial to always unplug the appliance from the electricity supply before carrying out any maintenance checks or operations.

Cleaning:

  • General Cleaning: Disconnect the appliance from power. Do not clean with water jets. Avoid installing the appliance in rooms where water jets are used. Periodically clean the appliance using perfectly clean, disinfected cloths or brushes. Do not use abrasive products, as they can damage shiny surfaces.
  • Hopper Cleaning: Remove the hopper by unscrewing its fixing screw (using a special tool). Wash it with neutral soap and water, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, and dry it perfectly. Periodic cleaning of the hopper is recommended. After cleaning, place the hopper back in its location and secure it with the screw.
  • Grinding System Cleaning: Disconnect the grinder. Remove the stop device for the dial-spout-grindstones assembly anti-removal. Unscrew the adjustment dial by turning it clockwise. Remove the upper grindstone holder and clean the grindstones, threads, and the entire grinding system using a clean brush and cloth. After cleaning, reassemble the upper grindstone holder, screw the adjustment dial back on, place the hopper, and adjust the grinding as required.
  • Funnel/Dispenser Cleaning: Remove the two screws from the funnel lid. Clean the funnel with a clean brush to remove any coffee residue. Use a dry cloth to clean the outlet of ground coffee at the bottom of the funnel. Further cleaning operations, especially of the sharp edges and the outlet of ground coffee at the bottom, must be performed by skilled technical personnel only after disconnecting the appliance from the power supply.

Periodic Checks:

  • Cable and Plug: Periodically check the condition of the power cable and plug. If damaged, call skilled technical personnel for replacement to prevent risks. For "CE" certified appliances, a special tool is required to open the bottom plate to access the cable. Only original spare parts should be used.
  • Component Wear: To ensure lasting efficiency, skilled technical personnel must perform periodic maintenance, including detailed checks of components subject to wear.
  • Grindstones: Periodically check the state of the grindstones. Maintaining grindstones in excellent condition ensures high-quality grinding, increased productivity, and limited overheating.

Shut-Down and Dismantling:

Dismantling of the machine must only be performed by authorized personnel. The power cord must be disconnected, and any potentially harmful substances must be disposed of legally and properly. The machine should be placed in a suitable location, out of reach of children or unsuitable people. The waste separation of this equipment at the end of its life is organized and controlled by the manufacturer. Users wishing to dispose of the equipment must contact the manufacturer to follow the appropriate separated collection system. Correct separation for recycling, treatment, and dismantling helps prevent negative environmental and health effects and encourages material recycling. Unauthorized dismantling will result in administrative sanctions. The machine features a label indicating compliance with DIRECTIVE (2002/96/EC) on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) for the European market.
