Overview

The Braun Series 1 shaver is a compact and efficient electric shaver designed for a close and comfortable dry shave. This manual provides comprehensive instructions for its use, maintenance, and care, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.

Function Description

The Braun Series 1 is primarily an electric shaver, designed to provide a smooth and efficient shave. It features a shaver foil (2) and a cutter block (3) that work together to cut hair close to the skin. For longer hair or for trimming sideburns, moustaches, or beards, the shaver is equipped with a long hair trimmer (4), which is available on models 150s and 130s. The device is powered by an integrated Safety Extra Low Voltage power supply and is designed for cordless operation after charging.

Usage Features

To operate the shaver, simply press the on switch (5). For precise trimming of sideburns, moustaches, or beards, slide the long hair trimmer (4) upwards.

For optimal dry shaving results, Braun recommends a three-step process:

  1. Shave before washing your face: This helps to ensure the skin and hair are dry, allowing for a more effective shave.
  2. Hold the shaver at a right angle (90°) to your skin: This ensures maximum contact between the shaver foil and the skin, leading to a closer shave.
  3. Stretch your skin and shave against the direction of your beard growth: Stretching the skin helps to lift the hairs, making them easier to cut, while shaving against the grain provides a closer finish.

The shaver is designed for ease of use and portability, making it suitable for daily grooming. It is important to ensure the shaver is fully charged before use to experience its full cordless shaving time, which can be up to 20 minutes depending on beard growth.

Charging

The Braun Series 1 models 150s and 140s are rechargeable. For the first charge, or if the shaver has not been used for several months, it requires a continuous charge of 16 hours. Subsequent charges typically take approximately 8 hours. The ideal ambient temperature for charging is between 5 °C and 35 °C. Charging at extreme low or high temperatures may prevent the battery from charging properly or at all. The shaver must be switched off for charging to occur. To confirm it's off, press the off switch (6) before connecting the special cord set (9) to an electrical outlet. The power LED (7) will illuminate to indicate that the shaver is connected to an electrical outlet and charging. After several charging/discharging cycles, the battery will reach its maximum capacity.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning is crucial for maintaining the shaver's performance. The shaver head is designed to be cleaned under running tap water (A). To clean with water:

  1. Switch on the shaver (for models 150s/140s only) and rinse the shaver head under hot running water: Continue rinsing until all hair residues and debris are removed.
  2. Use liquid soap (without abrasive substances): Apply a small amount of liquid soap to the shaver head while rinsing.
  3. Rinse off all foam and let the shaver run for a few more seconds: This helps to thoroughly clean the internal components.
  4. Switch off the shaver (for models 150s/140s) and remove the shaver foil (2) and cutter block (3): Allow these disassembled parts to air dry completely.
  5. Lubrication: If you regularly clean the shaver under water, apply a drop of light machine oil onto the long hair trimmer (4) and shaver foil once a week.

Alternatively, the shaver can be cleaned with a brush (B):

  1. Switch off the shaver.
  2. Remove the shaver foil (2) and tap it out on a flat surface: This helps to dislodge trapped hairs.
  3. Use the brush to clean the cutter block (3) and the inner area of the shaver head: Important: Do not clean the shaver foil with the brush as this may damage the foil.

Replacement of Shaver Foil and Cutter Block

To ensure 100% shaving performance and minimize skin irritation, it is recommended to replace the shaver foil (2) and cutter block (3) at least every 18 months, or sooner if they show signs of wear. Replacing both parts simultaneously is crucial for maintaining a close shave. The manual provides a visual reference (11B) for these replacement parts.

Environmental Notice

The product contains batteries and/or recyclable electric waste. For environmental protection, do not dispose of the appliance in household waste. Instead, take it to designated electric waste collection points in your country for recycling.

Safety Information

The shaver is equipped with a special cord set with an integrated Safety Extra Low Voltage power supply. Do not attempt to exchange or tamper with any part of it, as this poses a risk of electric shock. Only use the special cord set provided with the appliance. If the appliance is marked D-491-C, it can be used with any Braun power supply coded 491-XXXX. Never use the appliance if the foil or cord is damaged. The shaver head is suitable for cleaning under running tap water, but always detach the shaver from the power supply before cleaning it in water. Ensure the power supply remains dry.

This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above, as well as persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning safe use and understand the hazards involved. Children should not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance should not be performed by children unless supervised.

If an oil bottle is included (not with all models), keep it out of reach of children. Do not swallow the oil or allow it to contact the eyes. Dispose of the empty bottle properly.
