Another possible cause is a clogged shaving system. To address this, soak the Foil & Cutter cassette in hot water with a drop of dish liquid, then rinse it thoroughly, tap it out, and apply a drop of light machine oil to the foil once it's dry.

  If cleaning does not start when you press the start button on your Braun Electric Shaver's Clean&Charge Station, ensure the shaver is correctly placed in the station, pushing it to the rear so that the contacts align. Also, if the cleaning cartridge doesn't contain enough cleaning fluid (display blinks red), insert a new cleaning cartridge and press the start button again.

  If you notice an unpleasant smell from your Braun Electric Shaver head, it could be due to cleaning the shaver head with water. When cleaning the shaver head with water, use only hot water and occasionally some liquid soap (without abrasive substances). Remove the Foil & Cutter cassette to let it dry. Also, if the cleaning cartridge has been in use for more than 8 weeks, replace it.

Another reason may be that the drain of the Clean&Charge Station is clogged; clean the drain with a wooden toothpick.
