This document describes the Braun AromaSelect coffee maker, available in several models including KF 130, KF 140, KF 145, KF 147, KF 148, KF 150, KF 155, and KFT 150, with corresponding type numbers 3122, 3111, 3112, 3113, 3114, and 3118. It is designed for household use to brew coffee using cold water.
Function Description:
The Braun AromaSelect coffee maker is an electric appliance designed to brew coffee. It features a water container (D) with a water level indicator (C) to show the amount of water. Depending on the model, it may include a water filter cartridge (E) to improve water quality, though models KF 130 and KF 148 do not include this feature. An aroma selector (F) allows users to choose between a milder taste (☕) and a stronger taste (P) for their coffee.
The appliance has a filter holder (H) with a drip stop mechanism, which prevents coffee from dripping when the carafe is removed. A hotplate (I) keeps the brewed coffee warm. The coffee maker is operated by an on/off switch (J). Additionally, models KF 145, KF 147, KF 148, and KF 155 include a separate switch (K) for keeping small quantities of coffee hot for a minimum of 3 cups. The brewed coffee is collected in a glass carafe (L) with a lid.
For models with a water filter cartridge, a memory dial (G) helps users remember when to replace the filter. The brewing process involves filling the water container with cold water, inserting a No. 4 paper filter into the filter holder, adding ground coffee, placing the carafe on the hotplate, and then switching on the appliance. The brewing time per cup is approximately 1 minute.
Important Technical Specifications:
The maximum cup capacity varies by model:
- KF 130 - KF 148: 10 cups (125 ml each) or 15 cups (83 ml each).
- KF 150, KF 155: 12 cups (125 ml each) or 18 cups (83 ml each).
The appliance is designed to operate with household quantities of water and coffee. It conforms to European Directives EMC 89/336/EEC and Low Voltage 73/23/EEC, indicating compliance with electromagnetic compatibility and low voltage safety standards.
Usage Features:
- Water Filter Cartridge Installation: For models that include a water filter cartridge (E), it must be unpacked, and the space compensator (B) should be removed from the water container. The cartridge is then inserted into the water container. The space compensator should be kept as it must be re-installed when the water filter cartridge is removed. The memory dial (G) can be set to the month when the water filter needs to be exchanged.
- Water Filter Cartridge Replacement: The water filter cartridge should be replaced with a new one after two months of regular use. Before first use, after a long period of non-use, or after installing a new cartridge, the appliance should be operated for one brewing cycle with the maximum amount of cold, fresh water, without adding ground coffee to the filter.
- Aroma Selection: The aroma selector (F) allows users to customize the coffee strength to their preference.
- Small Quantity Hot Keeping: Specific models (KF 145, KF 147, KF 148, KF 155) have a dedicated switch (K) to keep small quantities of coffee hot, ensuring optimal temperature for fewer cups.
- Safety Precautions: Users are advised to read the instructions carefully, keep the appliance out of reach of children, and ensure the mains voltage matches the appliance's rating. Hot surfaces, especially the hotplate, should not be touched, and the power cord should not come into contact with them. The carafe should not be placed on other heated surfaces. A cooling period of approximately 5 minutes is recommended between consecutive brewing cycles to prevent steam formation when refilling with cold water. Repairs and cord replacements must only be performed by authorized service personnel.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: Before cleaning, the appliance must be unplugged. It should never be cleaned under running water or immersed in water. Instead, it should be wiped with a damp cloth. All removable parts, including the carafe, filter holder, and space compensator, are dishwasher-safe.
- Descaling: Regular descaling is necessary if hard water is used without a water filter. If a water filter cartridge is used and replaced regularly, descaling is typically not needed. However, if brewing time significantly increases, descaling is required. During descaling, the water filter cartridge must be replaced with the space compensator (B). Commercial descaling agents that do not affect aluminum can be used, following the manufacturer's instructions. The descaling procedure should be repeated as necessary until the brewing time per cup returns to normal. After descaling, the maximum amount of fresh cold water should be run through the appliance at least twice to rinse it thoroughly.
- Disposal: At the end of its useful life, the appliance should not be disposed of with household waste. It should be taken to a Braun Service Centre or appropriate local collection points.
