This document provides instructions for the Braun Jug Blender, a versatile kitchen appliance designed for various food and beverage preparations. It covers models Type 4142, 4143, and 4144, including the JB 7192, JB 7130, and JB 7000.
Function Description
The Braun Jug Blender is primarily used for blending, chopping, mixing, pureeing, liquefying, and crushing ice. It features a motor body, a main pitcher, and a Smoothie2Go attachment for individual servings. The blender offers multiple speed selections, including a pulse mode for controlled processing and a dedicated crush ice button for automated ice crushing.
The main pitcher is suitable for preparing larger quantities of ingredients, while the Smoothie2Go attachment is specifically designed for drinks and smoothies, allowing users to blend and take their beverages on the go. The appliance is designed for household use and is not intended for commercial or industrial applications.
Usage Features
General Operation:
Before first use, all detachable parts should be cleaned. The power cord can be uncoiled from the storage compartment at the bottom of the motor body. To operate, the appliance must be plugged in, and the On/Off button pressed. The On/Off button will illuminate, and other indicator lights will flash, signifying that the blender is in ON mode but no speed is selected. If no speed or mode is selected within 5 minutes, the appliance will automatically turn off.
Blending with the Pitcher:
To assemble the pitcher, ensure the blade gasket is positioned on the inside rim of the blade group. Carefully place the blade group into the locking ring and screw the blade assembly to the pitcher in a clockwise motion until secure. The pitcher is then positioned on the motor body by aligning the line on the locking ring with the front of the user and pushing down until it locks into place. The pitcher handle should be on either the right or left side of the motor body.
For optimal blending, liquid ingredients should be added first, followed by solid ingredients, to ensure uniform blending and prevent motor stress. The complete lid, including the measuring cap, must be firmly placed on top before operation. During blending, additional liquids can be added through the drip hole in the measuring cap. To stop blending, press the pre-selected speed button. To switch off the appliance, press the On/Off button and unplug the blender before removing the pitcher.
Blending Hot Ingredients:
When blending hot foods or liquids, the complete lid (including the gasket and measuring cap) must be placed on the pitcher. Do not fill the pitcher beyond 24 fl. oz. (3 cups) for hot foodstuff. For larger amounts, ingredients should cool to room temperature, and the pitcher should not be filled beyond 48 fl. oz. (6 cups). Blending very hot ingredients can result in hot liquid and steam being forced past the lid, causing severe personal injury.
Smoothie2Go Attachment:
The Smoothie2Go attachment must only be operated with its special blade group (grey) and is exclusively for preparing drinks and smoothies. It should not be used to blend hot foods or carbonated liquids. To assemble, ensure the blade gasket is positioned on the inside rim of the blade group. Hold the blade group at the coupling from underneath and place it upside down in the cup. Screw the locking ring blade assembly to the cup in a clockwise motion until it can go no further.
To blend with the Smoothie2Go, fill the cup with ingredients, adding solids first, then liquids. Carefully place the blade group with the gasket onto the cup and screw the locking ring clockwise until secure. Turn the cup upside down, position the line on the locking ring in front of the user, and push the cup down until it is securely locked into place on the motor body. After blending, turn the cup upright and unscrew the blade assembly. To attach the lid, ensure the gasket is inside the rim of the lid and twist clockwise, then carefully close the drinking spout.
Speed Selection and Modes:
The blender offers various speed selection buttons (9) and a pulse button (8).
- Speed Buttons: Pressing one of the speed buttons initiates blending, with the indicator light of the selected function glowing. Speeds can be changed by pressing a higher or lower speed button. Pressing the selected speed button again stops blending.
- Pulse Mode (Type 4142 + 4143): This mode is used for breaking apart larger food pieces or controlling food texture during chopping. It can be activated at any speed by pressing the pulse button (8). The indicator light will glow, and all speed program lights will flash. To pulse, hold down a speed button for the desired duration. To finish pulse mode, press the pulse button again.
- Pulse Mode (Type 4144): For this type, press and release the pulse button (8) for short bursts of power. The duration of each pulse is determined by the user. Pulse mode does not work with the crush ice feature.
- Crush Ice Mode: Pressing the crush ice button (10) begins crushing. The indicator light will glow, and the blender will cycle through a pre-programmed time (30 seconds at staggered intervals) and stop automatically. To stop the program earlier, press the crush ice button again.
Best Results:
For best results, solid ingredients should be cut into small pieces (1 inch). Always start by mixing solid ingredients with a small amount of liquid, gradually adding more liquid. When pureeing solids, feed small portions into the pitcher gradually. If blending stops or ingredients stick to the sides, there may not be enough liquid. Use pulse mode for solid or highly viscous ingredients to prevent the blade from becoming stagnant. For small amounts of foodstuff, use a low speed level. Oil can be added through the drip hole in the measuring cap when preparing mayonnaise. Avoid bumping or dropping the blender during operation. It is recommended to keep a hand on top of the pitcher when operating. Do not fill the pitcher beyond 32 fl. oz. (4 cups) when preparing milk-based drinks.
Maintenance Features
Cleaning:
Before cleaning, always disconnect the power.
- Motor Body: Do not immerse the motor body in water or any other liquid. Wipe it, the control panel, and the power cord with a damp or dry cloth only. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Pitcher and Smoothie2Go Attachments: Ensure the pitcher is empty before unscrewing the locking ring. Handle the blade with caution. All detachable parts, including the Smoothie2Go attachments, are dishwasher-safe. Do not use the sanitizing program of the dishwasher, as it could damage the product. Parts can also be washed with hot, soapy water, then rinsed and dried thoroughly. For an efficient clean of the lids and the blades, remove the gaskets (3/12b, 5a/13a).
Storage:
It is suggested to save all packing materials for future shipping needs. Keep all plastic bags away from children. The cord storage compartment (11) at the bottom of the motor body allows for neat storage of the power cord.
Troubleshooting:
The manual includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues:
- Blender does not operate: Check if the appliance is plugged in, and if the fuse/circuit breaker in your home is working. Also, ensure the pitcher is properly attached, with the handle on the right or left side of the motor body. If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact Braun Customer Service.
- Pitcher is leaking: Check if the gasket is loose or torn, and ensure it is mounted properly and in the right order.
- Liquid splashing out of the pitcher: Check if the pitcher is overfilled and verify the speed selected against recommendations.
