This document describes the Braun TexStyle 7 iron, a steam iron designed for efficient and safe garment care.
The Braun TexStyle 7 iron is equipped with several features to optimize the ironing process. It includes preconditioning nozzles and a spray nozzle for effective moisture application. The water tank has an opening for easy filling, and a water tank capacity of up to 300 ml. The iron features a steam regulator with settings from 0 to 6, allowing users to adjust the steam quantity according to fabric type. A temperature selector enables precise temperature control, indicated by a temperature pilot light that turns off once the desired temperature is reached. For enhanced safety, certain models include an "auto-off" light, which indicates when the automatic shut-off mechanism is activated. The iron also has a heel rest for stable upright storage during ironing pauses.
The iron offers various steam functions. Vario steam allows for adjustable steam quantity, with a minimum temperature level of 2 (••). A medium steam setting is recommended for normal ironing, while the maximum setting is suitable for linen, thick cotton, and similar fabrics. The steam regulator should not be turned beyond setting «6» during ironing. Vario plus steam provides extra steam for up to 30 seconds, requiring a minimum temperature level of 3 (•••). The Precision Shot function delivers a powerful steam shot with preconditioning steam. It can be activated by pressing the Precision Shot button 3 to 4 times prior to use, and then in intervals of at least 5 seconds. This function can also be used for dry ironing at a minimum temperature level of 3 (•••) and in a vertical position for steaming hanging clothes. Caution is advised as hot steam will exit the preconditioning nozzles. The spray function is activated by pressing the spray button. For dry ironing, the steam regulator should be set to position «0» (steam off).
An automatic shut-off mechanism is integrated for safety and energy saving. A slight rattling noise during ironing is normal and indicates the mechanism is working. The red «auto-off» light will flash when activated. This occurs if the iron rests horizontally on its sole plate for about 30 seconds or vertically on its heel rest for about 8 minutes. To reactivate the iron, simply move it. The automatic shut-off activates approximately 2 minutes after the iron is plugged into a socket.
Certain models include a Textile Protector (11) which protects delicate fabrics from heat damage and allows ironing of most dark fabrics without an intermediate cloth. Its special coating helps avoid shiny patches. To prevent damage to the coating, avoid ironing over zippers, metal buttons/rivets, or strass when the Textile Protector is attached. It is recommended to test a small section of material on the reverse side before ironing. With the Textile Protector, delicate fabrics can be ironed with temperature settings from (•••) to «max», utilizing all steam functions. After attaching the Textile Protector, wait about 1 1/2 minutes before ironing. The iron should always be stored with the Textile Protector detached.
Before use, ensure the iron's voltage matches the mains supply. Due to the high power of this steam iron, verify that the mains supply impedance is not higher than 0.32 Ohm. The iron is designed for tap water, but for extremely hard water, a 50% tap water and 50% distilled water mixture is recommended. The water tank should be filled up to the «max» marking. Distilled water should not be used exclusively, and no additives (e.g., starch) or condensation water from a tumble dryer should be added. Before filling, the steam regulator should be turned to «0» (steam off).
To fill the water tank, hold the iron slightly inclined and pour water up to the «max» marking. Place the iron upright on its heel rest and connect it to the mains. Select the desired temperature according to the ironing guide on the heel rest or garment label. The pilot light (8) will turn off when the desired temperature is reached, typically after about 1 1/2 minutes.
After ironing, unplug the iron and turn the steam regulator to position «0». To prolong the iron's life, empty the water tank. Store the cool iron in a dry place, always standing on its heel rest.
For cleaning the sole plate, steel wool can be used. Scouring pads, vinegar, or other chemicals should never be used.
The anti-calc valve (located at the lower end of the steam regulator) needs regular decalcification, especially if steam development is insufficient. The water tank must be empty for this process. To remove the steam regulator with the anti-calc valve, turn the steam regulator clockwise towards steam setting «6». Continue turning firmly beyond the resistance until the steam regulator lifts. When positioned at ●, pull it out vertically. Avoid touching the anti-calc valve at its lower end. Immerse the anti-calc valve in vinegar (not vinegar essence) or lemon juice for a minimum of 30 minutes. Brush off any remaining residues and rinse under running water.
To re-insert the steam regulator, ensure its base still points to setting ●. Firmly push down the steam regulator until it turns back to setting «6» where it catches. The iron must never be used without the steam regulator.
For decalcifying the anti-calc system and cleaning the steam chamber from residues, follow the instructions in the manual. Caution: hot water and steam will come out from the sole plate when the steam regulator is turned clockwise beyond setting «6». Allow the sole plate to cool down before cleaning. Then refill the tank with water, heat up the iron, and press the precision shot button 4 times to rinse the iron before ironing. Commercial decalcifiers should not be used as they may damage the iron.
