Overview

The Breville Rice Box™ BRC460 is a 10-cup capacity rice cooker designed for household use, capable of cooking up to 20 cups of cooked rice at a time. It features a heavy-duty non-stick coated removable cooking bowl with a level indicator and a sealed lid with a steam vent. The appliance comes with a Rice Box™ measuring cup and a serving spoon.

Function Description:

The BRC460 offers multiple auto settings for various rice types and cooking needs, accessible via an LED display and MENU button. The available settings include:

  • COOK/SUSHI: The most common setting for larger quantities of rice (up to 10 Rice Box™ cups), suitable for preparing sushi rice. After cooking, the unit automatically switches to the WARM setting.
  • FAST COOK: Designed for smaller to medium quantities of rice (approximately 2–4 Rice Box™ cups). This setting also automatically switches to WARM after cooking.
  • CONGEE (also known as CONJEE): For preparing rice porridge or soup, which can range from thin to thick consistency. Cooking time for congee is between 40–60 minutes, depending on quantity. The unit automatically enters the WARM setting after cooking.
  • PORRIDGE/SOUP: Similar to Congee but requires longer cooking (2 hours) and more water/stock to rice ratio, resulting in rice grain shapes being mostly broken down. The WARM indicator light flashes after this setting, indicating the unit is NOT in WARM mode and should be served immediately.
  • CRISPY RICE: Creates a crisp rice layer, useful for stir-fries, soups, or as a snack. This setting automatically switches to WARM after cooking.
  • REHEAT: Independently reheats cold cooked rice to serving temperatures. It is suited for smaller quantities of rice, not exceeding the 4 CUP measure. This setting also automatically switches to WARM after reheating.
  • WARM: Automatically or manually keeps rice warm for up to 24 hours. For optimal rice quality, it is recommended to limit warming to 5–8 hours. The WARM setting can be selected independently by pressing the WARM button.
  • TIMER: Allows presetting the finishing cooking time up to 15 hours for all cooking functions except REHEAT. COOK and FAST COOK settings can be preset between 1 and 15 hours, while PORRIDGE/SOUP can be preset between 2 and 15 hours.
  • CANCEL: Stops any programming or cooking function at any time.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: 10 Rice Box™ cups uncooked rice (yields up to 20 cups cooked rice).
  • Power: Connects to 230V or 240V power outlet.

  • Cord: Removable power cord.

Usage Features:

  • Rice Preparation: Rice should be washed in a separate bowl until water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  • Water Ratios:
    • White Rice: 1 Rice Box™ cup water : 1 Rice Box™ cup rice.

  • Safety:
    • Always ensure the cooking bowl is properly positioned and clean before use.
    • Do not operate without food and liquid in the cooking bowl.
    • Use oven mitts when handling hot surfaces, lid, or cooking bowl.

    • Do not move the appliance during cooking when it contains hot food/liquids.
    • The appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities unless supervised.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Always turn off, unplug, and allow to cool before cleaning.
    • Wash the non-stick coated removable cooking bowl and steaming tray in hot, soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly.
    • Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, metal scouring pads, or alkaline cleaning agents, as these can damage the non-stick surface or housing. Use a soft cloth and mild detergent.
    • The outer housing can be wiped with a damp cloth and dried.
    • If rice has cooked onto the bottom, fill the bowl with hot, soapy water and let it stand for 10 minutes before cleaning.
    • Do not immerse the outer housing or power cord in water or any other liquid.
    • The appliance connector must be removed and dried before cleaning and subsequent use.
  • Storage: Ensure the appliance is clean and dry before storing. Do not place anything on top of the lid when stored.
