Overview

The Breville MultiTemp™ Kettle is an advanced electric kettle designed for precise water heating, offering a range of features for optimal tea and coffee brewing, as well as general boiling needs. Its primary function is to heat drinking quality water to specific temperatures, ensuring that delicate beverages are not scalded and that the full flavor and aroma of various teas and coffees can develop.

Function Description

The kettle's core function revolves around its variable temperature control. It provides four distinct temperature settings: 80°C for Green Tea, 90°C for Oolong Tea, 95°C for Coffee, and 100°C for Boil/Black Tea. These settings are accessible via an electronic control panel on the power base. When a temperature is selected, the kettle heats the water to that precise degree. If no specific temperature button is pressed, the kettle defaults to 100°C when the START/CANCEL button is activated.

A key feature is the 20-minute Keep Warm function. This allows the user to maintain the selected water temperature for an extended period after the heating cycle is complete. If 100°C is selected with the Keep Warm function, the water will be held at approximately 95°C. This function can be activated before, during, or within one minute after the heating cycle has finished. If the temperature setting is changed to a higher one during the Keep Warm function, the kettle will automatically restart heating to the new, higher temperature.

The kettle is designed for ease of use, with a simple fill and place operation. It automatically switches off once the selected temperature is reached, or if it is removed from the power base during operation. A safety boil dry protection mechanism is also integrated, which stops heating if the kettle is operated with insufficient water, preventing overheating.

Usage Features

The Breville MultiTemp™ Kettle is designed for convenient and safe household use.

  • Filling: To fill the kettle, it must be removed from the power base. The lid opens by pressing a release button on the ergonomic handle. Water should be filled between the minimum (600ml) and maximum (1700ml) marks on the BPA-free water window. Overfilling can cause boiling water to splash, while underfilling may trigger the boil dry protection. The lid must be securely locked into place before operation.
  • Operation: After filling and placing the kettle on its multi-directional cord-free power base, the power plug is inserted into a 230V or 240V power outlet and switched on. A two-second beep confirms power, and the START/CANCEL and 100° BOIL button surrounds illuminate white. The user then selects the desired temperature (80°, 90°, 95°, or 100°). The selected button and the START/CANCEL button surround will illuminate white. Pressing the START/CANCEL button initiates the heating cycle, with its surround turning red.
  • Keep Warm Function: To activate Keep Warm, the user presses the KEEP WARM button after selecting a temperature, then presses START/CANCEL. Alternatively, Keep Warm can be activated during heating or within one minute of heating completion. The KEEP WARM button surround will illuminate red, and the selected temperature will be maintained for 20 minutes.
  • Safety: The kettle should always be used on a level, clean, and dry surface, away from edges and heat sources. It is not intended for use on an inclined plane or for boiling liquids other than water. The lid should never be opened during or immediately after boiling to prevent splashing. The handle should always be used for lifting and carrying, as the kettle body can become hot. The power cord should be fully unwound before use and kept away from hot surfaces.
  • Power Management: After use, or when not in use, the kettle should be switched off at the power outlet, and the power plug removed. The power cord can be stored around the power cord storage under the power base.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the Breville MultiTemp™ Kettle.

  • General Cleaning: Before any cleaning, the kettle must be switched off at the power outlet and unplugged, allowing all parts to cool. The exterior of the kettle and power base should be wiped with a damp cloth and then polished with a soft, dry cloth. Harsh chemicals, steel wool, or abrasive cleaners should not be used on the inside or outside of the kettle or power base, as they can cause damage. A mild cleaning agent with a soft damp cloth is recommended for the exterior.
  • Removable Scale Filter: The kettle includes a removable mesh filter designed to trap scale deposits from tap water, ensuring cleaner water. To clean the filter, the lid is opened, and the filter is slid up and out of the kettle. It can then be cleaned under running hot water, rubbing with a cleaning cloth or brush. To replace, the filter is slid down into the slot behind the spout and pushed back into position. The filter should be checked regularly for damage and replaced if necessary.
  • Mineral Deposit Removal (Descaling): Over time, mineral deposits from tap water may accumulate on the interior base, appearing as brown stains. This is not rust but discolouration. Breville Kettle Cleaner can be purchased and used according to its instructions. Alternatively, a homemade solution can be used: fill the kettle 2/3 full with 1 part vinegar (or a few slices of lemon) and 2 parts water, bring to a boil, and let it stand overnight. After emptying the solution, the kettle should be filled with clean water, boiled, and discarded. This process should be repeated until the kettle is ready for use.
  • Storage: When storing, ensure the kettle is switched off, clean, and dry. The lid should be closed and securely locked. The power cord can be wrapped around the storage area under the power base. The kettle should be stored upright on its power base, and nothing should be stored on top of it.
  • Safety Checks: The appliance should be regularly inspected for any damage to the power cord, power plug, or the appliance itself. Any maintenance beyond cleaning should be performed by an authorized Breville Service Centre.
