Overview

The Buffalo Turbine Cyclone 8000 is a powerful debris blower designed for a variety of applications, from clearing leaves and grass clippings to aerating and drying wet areas. This operator's manual and parts book provides comprehensive information for its safe operation, maintenance, and parts identification.

Function Description

The Cyclone 8000 is a high-volume, high-velocity air blower that moves material from one place to another. It is particularly effective for tasks requiring significant air movement, such as clearing large areas of debris, drying surfaces, and even aerating turf. The unit is designed for efficient and trouble-free operation, providing a reliable solution for debris management in various industries and applications. Its design emphasizes safety and ease of use, ensuring that operators can perform tasks effectively while minimizing risks.

Important Technical Specifications

The Cyclone 8000 is powered by a Kohler engine, model BT-CYC8KK. Key specifications include:

  • Length: 95" (from end of trailer arm to nozzle end)
  • Width: 44" (includes stub axle and 18.5x8.50-8 tires)
  • Height: 37" (includes stub axle and 18.5x8.50-8 tires)
  • Weight: 360 lbs.
  • Fuel Capacity: 1.7 gal
  • Tires: 18.5 x 8.50-8
  • Electrical System: 12V Electric remote
  • Input Power: Kohler 14 HP
  • Outlet Size: 12"
  • Sound Power Level (Lwa): 115 dB (EC Declaration of Conformity)
  • Sound Pressure Level (LpA): 120 dB (CE Certified Guard and Label Kit)
  • Engine RPMs: Up to 9,000 RPMs (Tachometer reading)
  • LUBE (grease) & CHANGE OIL: 25-hour intervals

The unit is designed to be trailer-mounted, allowing for easy transport and maneuverability. It features a robust construction to withstand demanding operational conditions. The serial number plate is located in a visible spot, and the direction of travel determines the front or rear of the blower unit.

Usage Features

The Cyclone 8000 offers several usage features that enhance its versatility and operator convenience:

  • Operator Orientation: The manual emphasizes the importance of understanding the directions (left, right, front, rear) as seen from the driver's seat and facing the direction of travel for proper operation and maintenance.
  • Safety First: The manual extensively covers safety guidelines, including wearing appropriate protective gear (hard hat, protective shoes with slip-resistant soles, protective glasses or goggles, heavy gloves, wet weather gear, hearing protection). It also warns against operating without guards or shields properly installed and not allowing riders.
  • Transport Safety: When transporting the blower, it is crucial to ensure all DOT regulations are met, and DOT-approved trailers are used. All skid-mounted units must be securely anchored to the vehicle being used. The trailer tongue should be attached to a proper receiver mounted on the towing vehicle, and a hitch receptacle is standard with the Cyclone 8000.
  • Operating Procedures:
    • Moving Light Material: For dry leaves and similar materials, less wind than wet or heavier material is required.
    • Blowing Wet/Heavier Material: For wet leaves, grass clippings, aeration plugs, and debris, a wider variety of applications can be achieved with powerful Debris Blowers.
    • Rocker Switch Control: The rocker switch in either direction on the hand-held control box changes the air stream direction. The nozzle will stop turning by releasing the rocker switch.
    • Nozzle Control: The nozzle should be operated in the minimal ground clearance position (360-degree rotation) to optimize debris removal.
  • Optional Accessories: The manual details various optional nozzles, including the Aerospace Polymer Nozzle (PN 2851), Fishtail Nozzle (PN 1743), 12" Round Nozzle (PN 1172), Rectangular Nozzle (PN 1425), Short Rectangular Nozzle (PN 1469), 10" Round Nozzle (PN 1417), and 11" Round Extended Nozzle (PN 1320). These options allow users to customize the blower for specific tasks and improve efficiency. Other accessories include a Heavy Duty Air Cleaner Kit, SenDec Maintenance Meter, and Monsoon Atomizer Nozzle.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the Cyclone 8000. The manual outlines a detailed maintenance schedule and procedures:

  • Daily Maintenance (8 hours or daily):
    • Remove all debris that has settled between the blower wheel fan and the stationary vanes to maintain peak performance.
  • 40-Hour Maintenance:
    • Flange bearing greasing (1 shot of grease). Use a grease gun extension. The holes in the top of the guard line up with the pillow block grease fittings. Removal of guards is not necessary to grease pillow block.
  • 200-Hour Maintenance (or annually):
    • Clean the machine.
  • General Maintenance:
    • Blower Surface: Store the blower on a firm, level surface.
    • Moving Parts: Set the blower on the ground, stop the engine, set the park brake, remove the ignition key, and wait for all moving parts to stop before operating, servicing, or adjusting.
    • Drive Belt: Do not adjust the drive belt while it is still rotating.
    • Guards: Make sure all guards are in place and properly secured. Do not operate the blower unit without guards securely attached.
    • Tire Maintenance: Do not attempt to mount a tire unless you have the proper equipment and experience. A qualified tire dealer or repair service should perform required tire maintenance.
    • Safety Decals: Keep safety decals and signs clean and legible at all times. Replace any missing or illegible decals.
  • Fluids & Maintenance:
    • Grease: Use SAE multi-purpose high-temperature grease for all applications. SAE multi-purpose lithium base grease is also acceptable. If necessary, use a Teflon spray lubricant only on the nozzle base and slides for freer rotation.
    • Servicing Interval: Grease the fitting on your new Cyclone 8000 after the first 8 hours of operation.
    • Over-Greasing: Do not over-grease.
    • Teflon Spray: Periodically spray lubricant on the elbow base and slides to assure smooth operation of the nozzle.
  • Belt Tension:
    • Efficient machine operation requires the belt always to be properly tensioned. To adjust the belt tension, follow these procedures:
      • Shut off the blower before removing guards.
      • Remove the guards around the belt and pulleys.
      • The flange bearing is fixed and pinned.
      • Adjust the belt tension by loosening the bolts on the flange bearing and adjusting the mounting bolts on the engine.
      • Check pulley alignment using a straight edge. Belt tension should be 15in./lbs at 1/4".
      • Replace with belt type (3VX355).
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting guide for common problems, their causes, and solutions. Examples include:
    • Blower does not turn: Cause - Belt slipping; Solution - Adjust belt tension.
    • Blower does not turn: Cause - Belt broken; Solution - Replace belt.
    • Belt or pulleys overheat: Cause - Belts slipping; Solution - Adjust belt tension.
    • No airflow: Cause - Blower fan not turning; Solution - See solutions above.
    • Reduced or no air flow: Cause - Blower fan turns; Solution - Air intake or exhaust restricted (Shut off engine, remove restrictions), Debris cannot be allowed to build up between the blower fan and stationary vanes.
    • Machine vibrates or unusual sounds: Cause - Bearing failure; Solution - Replace bearing.
    • Machine vibrates or unusual sounds: Cause - Out-of-balance; Solution - Check blower for damaged blades, Wash and clean blower fan blades.

The manual emphasizes that any engine service, engine parts, or engine warranty concerns should be directed to a local Kohler or Honda representative. Repair parts must be ordered through a Buffalo Turbine dealer. For any service questions, users should contact Buffalo Turbine's service department.
