There are a couple of things to consider when choosing the right rollator
size for you compact, regular or wide. Most people can fit more than
one size. Ask yourself where you plan to use your rollator, and then pick
one that fits you and your environment.
Handle height
When deciding on which size to get, the first thing to consider is the
height of the handles. The handle height on all our models is adjustable,
however differs in terms of much between the rollator models.
The height of the rollator handles must be able to match the height of
your wrists, measured when standing.
How to: measure the height from the floor up to your wrist and then
compare with the handle heights available on our rollators to see which
ones might be compatible with you.
Since your arms will be at a slight angle forward as you grip the handles,
we recommend adding one or two centimeters to your measured wrist
height.
P.S. Remember to measure your height while wearing shoes as well if
you plan to use your rollator outside.
Getting the correct handle height is important, as it enables you to walk
upright and not be hunched over when using the rollator.

Overview

This document provides detailed information on selecting the appropriate rollator model based on user-specific measurements and preferences, focusing on handle height, seat height, and hip width. The device described is a rollator, a walking aid designed to assist individuals with mobility challenges.

Function Description

A rollator is a mobility aid that provides support and stability for individuals who need assistance with walking. It typically features a frame with wheels, handles for gripping, and often a seat for resting. The primary function is to enable users to walk upright, maintain balance, and reduce the risk of falls, thereby enhancing independence and mobility. The document highlights various models: Carbon Ultralight Compact, Carbon Ultralight Regular, Carbon Ultralight Wide track, and Carbon Overland, each offering slightly different specifications to cater to diverse user needs and environments.

Important Technical Specifications

The technical specifications provided are crucial for ensuring a proper fit and comfortable use of the rollator.

Handle Height

The handle height is adjustable across all models, but the range of adjustment varies between them. Correct handle height is vital for maintaining an upright posture and preventing the user from hunching over. The document provides the following handle height ranges:

  • Carbon Ultralight Compact: 79 cm - 91 cm
  • Carbon Ultralight Regular: 80 cm - 95 cm
  • Carbon Ultralight Wide track: 80 cm - 95 cm
  • Carbon Overland: 80 cm - 95 cm

To determine the ideal handle height, users are advised to measure the height from the floor to their wrist while standing. An additional one to two centimeters should be added to this measurement to account for the slight forward angle of the arms when gripping the handles. It is also recommended to take this measurement while wearing shoes if the rollator will be used outdoors.

Seat Height

The seat height is not adjustable but differs between the compact and the regular/wide models. The seat provides a resting option for users. The specified seat heights are:

  • Carbon Ultralight Compact: 56 cm
  • Carbon Ultralight Regular: 61 cm
  • Carbon Ultralight Wide track: 61 cm
  • Carbon Overland: 62 cm

Users can simulate these seat heights at home using a chair and adjusting its height with books or pillows to find the most comfortable option for getting in and out of the seat. The frequency of seat usage is a factor in choosing a model; frequent users might prefer a wider, more comfortable seat, while occasional users might find a slimmer model suitable.

Hip Width (Width between handles)

The width between the handles is crucial for comfortable ingress and egress from the seat, especially for users who frequently sit. The document provides the following measurements for the width between handles:

  • Carbon Ultralight Compact: 35 cm
  • Carbon Ultralight Regular: 38 cm
  • Carbon Ultralight Wide track: 43 cm
  • Carbon Overland: 39 cm

It is important that the user's hip width is less than the width between the handles to ensure ease of movement. Users should also consider if they frequently wear bulky clothing, such as thick winter coats, which might require additional space.

Usage Features

The document emphasizes several usage features that contribute to the overall user experience and safety:

  • Adjustable Handle Height: Allows for customization to the user's specific height, promoting an upright posture and reducing strain. This adjustability is a key feature across all models, though the range varies.
  • Compact, Regular, and Wide Options: The availability of different sizes (compact, regular, wide track) allows users to choose a rollator that best fits their body dimensions and intended use environment. A compact model might be better for indoor use or tight spaces, while a wider model might offer more stability and comfort for outdoor or frequent seating use.
  • Integrated Seat: All models include a seat, providing a convenient resting spot for users during walks. The comfort and ease of use of the seat are highlighted as important considerations.
  • Environmental Suitability: The document suggests considering the planned usage environment (e.g., indoors, outdoors, rough terrain) when selecting a rollator. For instance, the Carbon Overland model, with its slightly higher seat, might be designed for more varied terrain.
  • Ergonomic Design: The emphasis on correct handle height and hip width suggests an ergonomic design approach aimed at maximizing user comfort and minimizing physical strain. Walking upright, as facilitated by correct handle height, is a core benefit.

Maintenance Features

The document does not explicitly detail maintenance features. However, by focusing on measurements and fit, it implicitly suggests that proper selection based on these criteria contributes to the longevity and effective functioning of the device. A well-fitted rollator is less likely to be misused or cause discomfort, which can indirectly reduce wear and tear. The mention of "Carbon Ultralight" in the model names suggests the use of lightweight materials, which could imply ease of handling and potentially lower maintenance related to heavy lifting or transport. The overall design for stability and user comfort also contributes to the device's sustained usability.
