Overview

The ByFloProducts JPD-FR403 is a dual-mode digital infrared thermometer designed for measuring human body temperature via the eardrum or the forehead, suitable for both home and professional use. The forehead mode is indicated for use by people above two years old, and the eardrum mode is indicated for use by people above three months old. It can also measure object temperatures.

Function Description:

The thermometer operates by detecting infrared energy emitted from the forehead, eardrum, or object surface. It features an LCD display screen for clear readings, a power/measure button, and a memory/sound button. The device automatically switches between object, forehead, and ear modes depending on whether the probe cover is on or off. When the probe cover is on, it operates in forehead and object modes. When the probe cover is off, it operates in ear mode. The thermometer includes a child mode, recommended for people under 12 years of age, which can be activated by pressing the mode button. It also offers a °C/°F mode toggle for switching between temperature units. The device provides audiovisual feedback, including a long beep for normal temperatures (green backlight) and three short double beeps for high temperatures (red backlight), indicating a potential fever. A mute/unmute function is available for sound control.

Usage Features:

To initiate the device, slide open the battery cover and remove the battery's insulating plastic. The thermometer can be muted or unmuted by pressing and holding the sound button for 3 seconds. Temperature units (°F/°C) can be switched by removing the battery cover and moving the toggle switch. The device stores up to 20 temperature readings, accessible via the memory button. Readings are saved from most recent to oldest. To clear memory, remove batteries for 10 seconds and re-install.

For ear temperature measurement, remove the probe cover. The device automatically defaults to adult mode; for children, activate child mode by pressing the mode button. Gently pull the ear to straighten the ear canal (backwards laterally for children 3 months to 1 year, up and back for children 1 year to adult) before inserting the probe. For forehead temperature, ensure the probe cover is on. Point the thermometer 1 to 3 cm from the center of the forehead. For object temperature, ensure the probe cover is on, select object mode, and point the thermometer 1 to 3 cm from the object surface. The device automatically powers off after 10 seconds of inactivity.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: Slide off the battery cover, insert two AAA 1.5V batteries according to polarity. Replace batteries when the low-battery symbol appears.
  • Cleaning: Remove batteries before cleaning. Clean the infrared sensor/probe with a soft cloth and the lens with a cotton swab. Wipe the thermometer body with a slightly damp soft cloth. Avoid getting water into the lens sensor and do not use corrosive cleansers or immerse the thermometer in liquid.
  • Disinfection: Disinfect the thermometer before and after each use. Wet a soft cloth with a small quantity of disinfectant (e.g., 70% isopropyl alcohol, 75% medicinal alcohol, or 3% sodium hypochlorite solution), wipe the thermometer, and dry it quickly. Disinfection should take 1 minute and not exceed 2 repetitions. Do not use hot steam or UV radiation for disinfection.
  • Storage: Store in a dry, dust-free, well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight. Remove batteries if not used for more than two months.
  • General Care: Ensure the temperature probe lens is clean for accurate readings. For ear measurements, clean earwax from the ear canal if present. Allow the thermometer to acclimate to room temperature for at least 30 minutes before use if there's a significant change in ambient temperature. Do not subject the thermometer to vibration or impact. Regularly check for safety hazards like broken lenses, cracked shells, or polluted sensing heads.
