Do you have a question about the Calira Accucare BW 35 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The CALIRA Accucare BW 35 is a battery monitor and intermediate switching device designed to protect 12V batteries from total discharge and sensitive electronic devices from undervoltage. It automatically switches off consumers when the battery voltage drops below a certain threshold, ensuring the longevity of the battery and the connected equipment. This device is intended to be connected between the battery and the consumers (mains supply) in a 12V system.

Technical Specifications

  • Housing: The device is housed in a black plastic casing.
  • Dimensions/Weight: It measures 98mm (L) x 88mm (W) x 44mm (H) and weighs 140g, making it a compact and lightweight unit suitable for various installations.
  • Operating Voltage: The Accucare BW 35 operates within a voltage range of 10-15V.
  • Switched Current: It can handle a maximum switched current of 35 Amperes, utilizing a bistable relay for efficient operation.
  • Current Input: When the load is switched off, the device's electronics draw a minimal current of 1.8mA from the battery, ensuring low parasitic drain.
  • Switching Thresholds: The device is programmed to switch off the connected load when the battery voltage drops to 10.8V. There is a built-in delay of 3 minutes before the actual shutdown occurs, preventing premature disconnections due to momentary voltage dips. The output switches on again when the voltage reaches 12.5V.
  • Connections: The Accucare BW 35 features terminal blocks for both inputs and outputs, facilitating straightforward wiring. The connection diagram illustrates the required wiring:
    • Battery Connection: The positive terminal of the 12V battery connects to the "B+" terminal of the device using a 6mm² cable. The negative terminal of the battery connects to the common ground.
    • Consumer Connection: The positive lead for the 12V consumers (max. 35A) connects to the "+ Verbraucher" terminal, also using a 6mm² cable.
    • Measuring Line: A dedicated measuring line (0.75mm²) connects from the battery's positive terminal to the "Meßltg. B+" input on the device. This separate line ensures accurate voltage measurement, independent of load currents.
    • External "EMERGENCY ON" Button (Optional): The device provides connections for an external "NOT-EIN" (Emergency ON) push button. This feature allows for remote activation of the emergency override. The external button connects to terminals 1 and 2, or 3 and 4, using 0.75mm² cables.
    • Internal "EMERGENCY ON" Button: The device also has an internal "NOT-EIN" button, which can be used for the same purpose.
  • Fuses: It is crucial to install fuses close to the positive pole of the battery. A 40A fuse is recommended for the main battery connection to the device, and a 2A fuse is shown for the measuring line.

Usage Features

  • Automatic Load Disconnection: The primary function is to automatically disconnect consumers when the battery voltage falls below 10.8V (with a 3-minute delay). This prevents deep discharge, which can severely damage a 12V battery and shorten its lifespan.
  • Undervoltage Protection: By disconnecting loads, the device also protects sensitive electronic equipment from damage caused by insufficient voltage.
  • "EMERGENCY ON" Function: In emergency situations where power is temporarily needed despite low battery voltage (below 10.8V), the "EMERGENCY ON" button can be pressed. This temporarily overrides the automatic shutdown for 3 minutes, allowing essential functions to operate. This feature can be activated either via the integrated button or an optional external push button.
  • Bistable Relay: The use of a bistable relay means the relay maintains its state (on or off) without continuous power consumption, contributing to the device's low current draw when the load is switched off.

Maintenance Features

  • Robust Design: The black plastic housing is designed for durability in various environments.
  • Clear Connection Diagram: The provided connection diagram is clear and detailed, aiding in correct installation and troubleshooting.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a two-year warranty from the date of purchase. This warranty covers defects arising from material or manufacturing faults.
    • Warranty Conditions: For a warranty claim to be valid, the device must be sent to the manufacturer postage paid, accompanied by proof of purchase. It must have been handled and used according to its intended purpose, without the installation of foreign spare parts or unauthorized interference.
    • Exclusions: Consequential costs and normal wear and tear are not covered under the warranty.
    • Important Note for Warranty Claims: When making a warranty claim, a detailed description of the fault is essential to facilitate and expedite the processing. The manufacturer explicitly states that they cannot accept items sent without correct postage.

The CALIRA Accucare BW 35 is a reliable and essential component for any 12V system, offering critical protection for both the battery and connected electronics, while also providing a crucial emergency override function.
