Overview

The Calmyst Humidifier, model CA40, is a 4.0L device designed to provide a calming mist in various indoor environments such as offices, bedrooms, nurseries, and hotels. It is an ultrasonic humidifier that uses a misting tube to disperse fine mist into the air, helping to increase humidity levels.

Important Safety Notices:

To ensure safe operation, users must adhere to several safety guidelines. The humidifier should only be serviced for cleaning and operated at 120V/60Hz. It is crucial to unplug the power cord from the outlet when the humidifier is not in use, or when cleaning and refilling. Foreign objects, fingers, hair, loose clothing, and jewelry must be kept away from all openings. The plug should never be altered or damaged, and the device should only be used as described in the manual. The power cord should not be placed near or on any heated surface. If the plug or cord appears damaged, the humidifier should not be operated. The power cord should never be used to pick up, carry, drag, pull, or lift the humidifier, nor should it be pulled around sharp corners or surfaces. When unplugging, users should hold onto the plug and pull gently, not the cord itself.

The humidifier must always be fully assembled before operation, and no items should be dropped into it. Users should avoid touching the bottom of the humidifier or its plug with wet hands. To prevent scale build-up, only distilled or filtered water should be used. The humidifier is designed for indoor use only and must be operated in an upright position, with nothing placed on top of it. It should always be turned off before unplugging. Essential oils should only be placed in the designated essential oil drip tray, and the humidifier must be placed on a flat, stable, and strong surface. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, the humidifier should not be modified in any way. Water should not be poured down the misting tube, and the atomizing sheet should not be touched. Benzene, thinner, or other solvents should not be used for cleaning. The water tank should not be separated from the base during use, and the humidifier should not be unplugged with wet hands. Prior to operation, all packaging and inserts must be removed from the base of the humidifier.

Overview of Components:

The Calmyst Humidifier consists of several key components:

  • Nozzle: The outlet for the mist.
  • Lid: Covers the top of the water tank.
  • Misting Tube: Directs the mist upwards.
  • Water Tank: Holds the water for humidification (4.0L capacity).
  • Water Control Float: A mechanism that helps regulate water levels.
  • Essential Oil Drip Tray: A dedicated compartment for adding essential oils.
  • Auto-Shut Off Float: A safety feature that triggers the humidifier to turn off when water levels are low.
  • Base: The main unit that houses the electrical components and the knob.
  • Knob: Used to control the humidifier's settings.
  • Empty Water Indicator: A visual cue that indicates when the water tank is empty.

Usage Features:

Removing Packaging Before Use:

Before the first use, ensure the humidifier is unplugged and turned off. Remove the lid and water tank from the base. Locate and remove the foam packaging and essential oil insert from the base of the humidifier. After removing all packaging, ensure both floats are back in place and reassemble the humidifier. Essential oils should be placed in any of the openings in the drip tray.

Proper Placement of Water Tank:

It is critical to ensure there are no gaps between the water tank and the base. If the tank and base are not flush, the humidifier will not operate correctly. The water tank must be properly set into its base without any gaps or spaces.

Filling Up the Humidifier:

For optimal performance and to prevent mineral build-up, white dust, and stress on the humidifier caused by hard water, use distilled or filtered water. To fill, remove the lid and water tank from the base. Pour water directly into the water tank. DO NOT pour water down the misting tube or directly into the base. Once filled, place the lid back on the humidifier. Optionally, the water tank can be removed from the base before filling.

Adding Essential Oils:

Always ensure the humidifier is unplugged and turned off before adding essential oils. Essential oils should only be placed in the holes of the essential oil drip tray. Do not place essential oils directly into the water unless they are water-soluble. To add oils, remove the lid and water tank from the base. Place essential oils into any of the holes in the essential oil drip tray. Then, place the water tank back on the base of the humidifier and the lid on the tank.

Maintenance Features:

Cleaning and Maintenance:

Regular cleaning is essential to prevent mold, mildew, and mineral build-up. The inside of the water tank and the base of the humidifier should be cleaned weekly or prior to storing. The lid, misting tube, water tank, and float are all dishwasher safe. However, due to electrical components, the base is NOT dishwasher safe.

Always empty the water from the humidifier and rinse before refilling. A helpful tip is to remove the water tank from the base first, then empty any remaining water from both the water tank and base. Pouring out water when the water tank is still on the base will cause a mess. Never pour chemicals into the humidifier; only use food-grade descaling tablets and dishwasher soap.

Descaling:

Descaling should be performed every 3 days or prior to storing the humidifier.

  1. Unplug the humidifier, remove the lid, and empty any remaining water from the base or upper tank.
  2. Fill the upper tank with 3 cups of distilled white vinegar and set the base to the side.
  3. Place the lid on the upper tank and swish the vinegar around the tank.
  4. Place the upper tank back on the base and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Some vinegar will drain into the base and loosen mineral buildup, including on the float.
  5. Empty the vinegar from the base and upper tank.
  6. Rinse and gently scrub the humidifier using a cleaning brush or soft cloth to remove any remaining scale or vinegar smell.
  7. Rinse the upper tank, base, and lid with room temperature water, ensuring water does not enter the essential oil tray.
  8. Reassemble the humidifier, ensuring all pieces are placed correctly and the float is clipped in on both sides.

Warnings During Cleaning Process:

  • DO NOT allow water to enter the essential oil drip tray. This tray also functions as the air outlet for the humidifier's electrical components. Water entering the drip tray can cause issues such as leaking, inoperable humidifier, or electrical problems.
  • DO NOT shake the entire humidifier while the upper tank is set on the base. Water may enter the essential oil drip tray, potentially damaging the humidifier.
  • DO NOT rinse the bottom of the humidifier. If water enters the bottom of the humidifier or the essential oil tray, place the base in a ventilated place to dry before use.

When Idle for an Extended Time:

If the humidifier will be idle for an extended period, unplug the unit and thoroughly dry the interior. Store the humidifier in a dry and ventilated space to prevent mold and bacterial build-up.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides solutions for common issues:

  • My Humidifier is Leaking:

    • Cause: Water overfilling the base and going down the essential oil tray, or the water outlet at the bottom of the upper container not being sealed.
    • Solution: Ensure the black float in the base is clipped and secured on both sides. Fully set the water tank in place on the base, ensuring no gaps. Ensure the spring and plug on the bottom of the upper tank are not stuck and remove any foreign objects. Ensure the silicone plug at the bottom of the upper container is secure.
  • The Humidifier is Not Turning On or Shutting Off Prematurely:

    • Cause: The air inlet on the bottom of the base is blocked, one of the floats is stuck or out of place, the water tank is not fully flush on the base (gaps present), the outlet does not have power, hard water has repeatedly been used (calcifying components like the water float or atomization board), the water tank is not filled up with water, or packaging under the water tank was not removed.
    • Solution: Ensure the humidifier is not placed on carpet or surfaces that will block the inlet. Remove foreign objects and place the floats back in place. Fully set the water tank in place on the base, ensuring no gaps. Use a proper power source. Descale the humidifier and begin using filtered or distilled water; if detergent was used, rinse deeply. Add additional water to the water tank so the sensor triggers. Remove packaging from the base of the humidifier.
  • There is White Dust on My Furniture or White Build Up on My Humidifier:

    • Cause: Water that has not been sufficiently filtered has been used, leaving behind minerals from hard water.
    • Solution: Regularly clean your humidifier and use either distilled water or properly filtered water.
  • There is Abnormal Noise Coming From My Humidifier:

    • Cause: One of the floats is stuck or out of place, or the humidifier is not on a solid surface.
    • Solution: Remove foreign objects and place the floats back in place. Place and operate the humidifier on a solid surface.
