3-10.2 R - R
EVERSE
Reverse gear may not be attained due to an active inhibitor.
Apply service brakes when selecting R (Reverse) to prevent
unexpected vehicle movement and because a service brake
inhibit may be present. When the R indicator is flashing, it
indicates the shift to Reverse is not attained.
Do not idle in R (Reverse) for more than five minutes.
Extended idling in R (Reverse) can cause transmission over-
heating and damage. Always select N (Neutral) whenever idle
time exceeds five minutes.
Completely stop the vehicle and let the engine return to idle
before shifting from a forward range to R (Reverse).
3-10.3 N - N
EUTRAL
Use N (Neutral) when starting the engine, to check vehicle
accessories, and for extended periods of engine idle operation
(longer than five minutes). The transmission will automati-
cally select N when starting the engine.
3-10.4 D - D
RIVE

Apply service brakes when selecting D (Drive) to prevent
unexpected vehicle movement and because a service brake
inhibit may be present. When the D indicator is flashing, it
indicates the shift to Drive is not attained.

idling in D (Drive) can cause transmission overheating and
damage. Always select N (Neutral) whenever idle time exceeds
five minutes.
The transmission will initially shift into first range when D
(Drive) is selected. As vehicle speed increases, the transmis-
