This document is an instruction manual for the Caple Undercounter Wine Cabinet models WI6234 and WI6235. It provides comprehensive information on the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the appliance.
Function Description:
The Caple Undercounter Wine Cabinet is designed exclusively for the storage of wine. It functions as a refrigerated unit to maintain optimal temperatures for various types of wine, ensuring their quality and longevity. The cabinet features an "Auto-cycle" defrost system, which automatically defrosts the refrigerated surface, channeling the defrosted water into a drain pan for evaporation. It also includes a humidity system to maintain the correct level of humidity, with a small plastic reservoir provided for water if humidity is too low. The appliance is intended for household use and similar applications, such as staff kitchen areas, farmhouses, hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast type environments. It is not designed for commercial use.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Temperature Range: The cabinet operates within an ambient temperature range of 16-32°C. The adjustable cooling temperature for the cabinet itself ranges from 5°C to 18°C.
- Refrigerant: The appliance uses R600a refrigerant, which is flammable.
- Power Supply: It is fitted with a power cord terminating in a 13amp plug and requires an exclusive, properly installed-grounded wall outlet.
- Capacity: The WI6234 and WI6235 models can store a maximum of 38 Bordeaux style 750ml bottles. The capacity may be less for other bottle styles (e.g., champagne), and shelves may need to be removed to accommodate more bottles.
- Net Volume Left: 59.5L per compartment (for models with two compartments).
- Light Source Energy Class: G.
- Installation Dimensions:
- Minimum height: 825mm
- Minimum depth (including door): 583mm
- Width: 605mm
- Plinth height for full height grille: 150mm
- Vent slot for kitchen plinth: H55mm
- Overall dimensions (single unit): 573mm (depth) x 716mm (height) x 595mm (width) with an adjustable height range of 820-885mm.
- Foot slider adjustment: 0-65mm.
Usage Features:
- Control Panel: The control panel includes touch keys for adjusting temperature (up/down in 1°C increments), switching the interior light ON/OFF, and turning the appliance ON/OFF (press and hold for approximately 3 seconds). An indicator light signifies when the cooling mode is active.
- Temperature Setting: The desired cooling temperature can be set between 5°C and 18°C using the △ / ∇ keys. The actual temperature can be viewed by pressing and holding △ / ∇ for approximately 5 seconds, which will temporarily flash on the LED display.
- Temperature Alarm: The cabinet features a temperature alarm. "HI" is displayed with an audible alarm if the inner temperature exceeds 23°C for one hour, indicating it's too high. "LO" is displayed with an audible alarm and malfunction indicator lights if the inner temperature drops below 0°C.
- Internal Light: The LED light automatically switches off after 10 minutes to reduce energy consumption. Users can choose to keep it on continuously by pressing and holding the light key for 5 seconds (display shows "LP"). To revert to energy-saving mode, press and hold the light key for 5 seconds again (display shows "LF").
- Shelves: Shelves can be pulled out approximately 1/3 of the way for easy access. They are designed with a notch to prevent bottles from falling. Shelves can be tilted and removed/installed by pulling them out or pushing them in until they sit securely on the support brackets. A video guide for this is available on the Caple website.
- Handle Installation: The handle is installed by removing the door gasket on the drilled holes side, fixing the handle to the screws, and then pushing the gasket back into place. A video guide is available.
- Plinth Grille Installation: The full height plinth grille (included with WI6234) is fixed to the cabinet with brackets and screws. For reduced plinth heights, a smaller slot-on plinth grille can be used, requiring a H55mm vent slot in the kitchen plinth for proper ventilation.
- Top Fixing Bracket: A top fixing bracket is provided to secure the product and prevent movement. It is installed by opening the door, adjusting the bracket, and fixing it to the work surface with screws.
- Foot Sliders: Foot sliders are provided to adjust the height over 820mm and prevent the feet from catching on the floor when sliding the appliance into the aperture.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning:
- Turn off power and unplug the appliance before cleaning.
- Remove all items, including shelves and racks.
- Wash inside surfaces with a warm water and baking soda solution (2 tablespoons of baking soda to 2 pints of water).
- Wash shelves with a mild detergent solution.
- Wring excess water from the sponge/cloth when cleaning control areas or electrical parts.
- Wash the outside cabinet with warm water and mild liquid detergent, then rinse and wipe dry with a soft cloth.
- Power Failure: Most power failures are short and should not affect temperature if the door opening is minimized. For longer outages, steps should be taken to protect contents.
- Holidays:
- Short holidays (less than three weeks): Leave the wine cabinet operating.
- Long holidays (several months): Remove all items, turn off the appliance, clean and dry the interior thoroughly. Leave the door slightly ajar (blocked open if necessary) to prevent odor and mold growth.
- Moving the Wine Cabinet:
- Remove all items.
- Securely tape down all loose items (shelves).
- Raise the adjustable leg to the base to prevent damage.
- Tape the door shut.
- Ensure the appliance remains upright during transportation and protect the exterior with a blanket or similar item.
- Energy Saving Tips: Locate the cabinet in the coolest area of the room, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Close the door carefully to avoid slamming, which can cause excess moisture buildup and evaporation tray overflow.
Troubleshooting:
The manual includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the cabinet not operating, not being cold enough, compressor cycling frequently, light not working, vibrations, excessive noise, and the door not closing properly. Solutions range from checking power connections and temperature settings to ensuring proper ventilation and leveling. For unresolved issues, Caple Service can be contacted by phone or email.
