Overview

The device described in this manual is a set of CARFACE WING Roof Racks, model number DO CFRB008. These are traverse aluminum roof racks designed for vehicles equipped with approved longitudinal roof rails (hagusy).

Function Description

The primary function of the CARFACE WING Roof Racks is to provide a secure platform for transporting various items and loads on the roof of a vehicle. They are suitable for mounting additional accessories such as roof boxes, ski carriers, bike carriers, and other cargo. The racks are equipped with safety locks to prevent theft, ensuring the security of both the racks and the attached cargo.

Usage Features

The CARFACE WING Roof Racks are designed for ease of installation and secure operation, though adherence to specific guidelines is crucial for safety and optimal performance.

Installation: The roof racks come with four lockable clamps. Two of these clamps (marked 'A' in the diagrams) contain an Allen key used to secure the racks to the vehicle's raised roof rails.

  1. Accessing the Allen Key: To access the Allen key, turn the key clockwise and pull out the key pad.
  2. Opening the Clamp: Remove the Allen key from its top storage position. Insert it into the bottom opening (marked in blue) and turn it counter-clockwise to open the clamping area.
  3. Securing the Clamp: Position the clamp onto the roof rail and turn the Allen key clockwise to tighten the clamp securely.
  4. Storing the Allen Key: Remove the Allen key from the bottom opening and reinsert it into the top storage position, turning the key counter-clockwise before removing it.
  5. Correct Connection: It is critical to ensure that the mounting bracket is correctly connected to the roof rail (as shown in diagram 'A'). Incorrect connections (diagrams 'B' and 'C') can lead to unstable loads and pose a danger to other road users.
  6. Distance Between Racks: Unless specified otherwise by the vehicle manufacturer, the recommended distance between the two roof racks is 700 mm.
  7. Bar Length: Ensure the roof racks do not project past the sides of the vehicle. If necessary, the bars can be trimmed using appropriate cutting tools. The bars should be balanced, extending equally on both sides of the feet.
  8. Rubber Strips: The roof racks include rubber strips designed to cover the grooves on the underside of the bars. These strips help reduce noise and whistling during driving. To install them, first mount the racks on the vehicle, measure the required length for each groove, trim the strips as needed, and then insert them into the grooves.

Loading and Transport:

  • Load Distribution: The load must be evenly distributed over the carrier system, and its center of gravity should be kept as low as possible.
  • Heavy/Narrow Items: Thin and heavy items (e.g., metal tubes) should be carried close to the feet of the carrier system.
  • Overhanging Loads: Loads that overhang the ends of the carrier system must comply with all relevant laws and by-laws and must be adequately secured.
  • Surfboards/Items with Lift: Surfboards or similar items that can generate lift should not be carried side-by-side but stacked one on top of the other. Each such item must be independently secured to the front and rear of the vehicle using strong, non-elastic straps or other methods capable of withstanding lifting forces.
  • Long Objects: The ends of long objects must also be secured to the vehicle's tow points.
  • Securing Load: Crucially, only non-elastic tie-downs should be used to secure the load. Elastic straps are explicitly prohibited for this purpose. All fixing devices and straps must be properly tightened and checked regularly, especially before and during a trip, to ensure the load has not shifted.

Driving with Roof Racks:

  • Driving Characteristics: Installing roof racks, especially when loaded, will alter the vehicle's handling characteristics. This includes increased sensitivity to crosswinds, changes in cornering behavior, and longer braking distances. Drivers must adjust their driving technique accordingly, reducing speed (especially on bends) and allowing for greater braking distances.
  • Speed Limit: Do not exceed the recommended maximum speed of 110 km/h when carrying a load on the roof racks.

Maintenance Features

  • Condition: The roof racks should be maintained in good working order.
  • Cleaning: It is forbidden to use automatic car washes with the roof racks installed. They must be removed before entering a car wash.
  • Removal for Fuel Economy: To reduce fuel consumption, it is recommended to remove the roof racks when they are not in use.
  • Assembly/Disassembly: It is advisable for two people to assemble and disassemble the roof racks to prevent damage to the vehicle's roof.
  • User Responsibility: The user is responsible for the proper and precise installation of the roof racks. The manufacturer disclaims all liability for damage resulting from high-speed driving, incorrect driving, improper positioning, securing, or fastening of the roof rack or load.

This product is not suitable for vehicles where the roof rails are flush with the vehicle's roof surface. All applicable laws and regulations in the country of use must be observed. Any driver using these roof racks must be familiar with these instructions and recommendations.
