Overview

The Carex Day-Light Lamp (Model DL93011) is a bright light system designed for household use, primarily to help alleviate the "Winter Blues" and improve mood and energy levels. It functions by emitting bright light that simulates springtime morning light, which can be beneficial for individuals experiencing seasonal affective disorder or general low energy during darker months.

Function Description

The Day-Light Lamp provides bright light therapy, which involves exposure to a specific intensity of light to influence the body's circadian rhythm and mood. It offers two light intensity settings: a high-intensity "Therapy Mode" and a lower-intensity "Task/Ambient Mode." In Therapy Mode, the lamp emits 10,000 LUX of light at a distance of 12-14 inches, recommended for sessions of up to 60 minutes each morning. The Task/Ambient Mode provides 5,000 LUX at the same distance, suitable for general illumination, reading, or other tasks. The device is designed to be UV-free, ensuring a safe light therapy experience.

The lamp's light source consists of 192 LED bulbs, producing a color temperature of 4,000 Kelvin. It operates on 120 VAC, 60Hz, 1.5A electrical power. The system is UL & C-UL Listed, indicating compliance with safety standards.

Usage Features

To use the Day-Light Lamp, users should first assemble the device by attaching the weighted lamp base to the adjustable height arm using a screw and screwdriver. The lamp head is then slid onto the assembled arm and base, ensuring a locking tab is fully engaged for stability and safety. Finally, the component power cord is inserted and secured, and the lamp is plugged into a standard 120 VAC grounded outlet.

Once assembled, the lamp can be adjusted for optimal light therapy. The angle of the lamp head can be set to approximately 15 degrees from vertical by pressing a silver button at the top of the arm while supporting the lamp head. The height of the lamp can also be adjusted by pressing a lower silver button, allowing the lamp head to be lifted or lowered to the desired height. For therapy, it is recommended that the user's eyes are positioned approximately at the center of the lamp.

For best results in addressing the "Winter Blues," it is advised to use the Day-Light soon after waking, preferably before 9 a.m. A typical session begins with 30 minutes, during which users can read, eat breakfast, or engage in other activities. It is not necessary to stare directly into the light; simply facing toward the Day-Light with eyes open is sufficient. Users can adjust the session length in five-minute increments based on their response, but therapy mode should not exceed 60 minutes per session. Overuse may lead to irritability, excessive energy, or difficulty falling asleep. If experiencing a slump in energy later in the day, a short 15-20 minute session can be added, but use after 8 p.m. is not recommended as it may delay sleep onset.

The lamp also serves as a versatile task light, reading lamp, or source of glare-free ambient light. When switching the Day-Light on, it takes about 30 seconds to reach full intensity. During the first few uses, a harmless odor may be emitted, which will quickly dissipate.

Maintenance Features

The Day-Light Lamp is designed for ease of use and minimal maintenance. Users are advised not to attempt to open or access the electrical components of the lamp, as there are no user-serviceable parts. This ensures the integrity of the device and user safety.

To maintain optimal performance, it is important to use the lamp in a well-ventilated area, away from other heat sources. Additionally, users should ensure that the air vents on the device are not blocked when the product is in use. This helps prevent overheating and ensures the longevity of the lamp.

The product comes with a five-year limited warranty, providing assurance of its quality and durability. Users are encouraged to complete their warranty registration online at www.carex.com. If any product parts are missing or damaged upon receipt, users should contact their dealer.

The Day-Light Lamp is an innovative light supply system and is not listed as a medical device in the USA. It is recommended that individuals consult their physician before starting any bright light therapy regimen, especially if they have underlying health conditions. If symptoms of overuse, such as increased irritability or excessive energy, occur, users should decrease session length or move the light further away.
