A Guide to Operating and Maintaining Your

Single-Packaged Electric Heat Pump Unit

NOTE: Read the entire instruction manual be%re starting the

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

Installation and servicing of air:conditioning equipment can be

Untrained personnel can perfom_ basic maintenance fonctions of

cleaning coils and filters. All other operations should be perfbrmed

by tlained service personnel. When working on air-conditioning

equipment, observe precautions in the literature, tags, and labels

attached to the unit, and other safety precautions that may apply.

Follow all safe V codes. Wear safety" glasses and work gloves. Use

quenching cloth fbr unbrazing operations. Have fire extinguisher

available for all brazing operations.

When you see this symbol on the product or in instructions or

manuals, be alert to the potential for personal injury.

Understand the signal words DANGER, WARNfNG, CAU=

TION, and NOTE. Danger identifies the most serious hazards,

which will result in severe personal injury- or death. Warning

indicates a condition d'mt could cause serious personal it{jury," or

death. Caution is used to identify unsafe practices, which would

result in minor personal injury or product and property damage.

NOTE is used to highlight suggestions which will result in

enhanced installation, reliability, or operation.

OPERATING YOUR HEAT PUMP

maintains the indoor temperature at the level you selecL Most

thermostats of heat pump systems have 3 controls: a temperature

conhol selector, a FAN control, and a SYSTEM or MODE control.

Refer to your thermostat owner's manual for more infbmmtion

To better protect your investment and to eliminate unnecessao,-

service calls, familiarize yourself with the _k_llowing facts:

1. During heating, increasing the thermostat setting more than

2°F may cause the supplemental heaters to be turned on for a

short period of time to satisfy the themmstat. Needless use of

the supplementary heat reduces potential energy savings.

The Carrier 50XZ Single-Packaged Electric Heat Pump Unit with Puron® (R-410A) Refrigerant is a comprehensive heating and cooling solution designed for residential and commercial applications. This unit integrates both heating and cooling functions into a single package, utilizing a heat pump system for energy-efficient operation.

Function Description:

The primary function of the 50XZ unit is to provide year-round indoor comfort by heating or cooling the air as needed. In cooling mode, it extracts heat from the indoor air and expels it outdoors, lowering the indoor temperature. In heating mode, it reverses the process, extracting heat from the outdoor air and transferring it indoors, even in cold weather. The unit is equipped with Puron (R-410A) refrigerant, an environmentally friendly alternative to older refrigerants. Supplemental electric heaters are included to assist the heat pump during extremely cold conditions or when a rapid temperature increase is required, ensuring consistent comfort. The system is controlled by an indoor thermostat, allowing users to set desired temperatures and operating modes (COOL, HEAT, OFF, FAN).

Operating Modes:
- Cooling Mode: The unit runs until the indoor temperature reaches the selected level.

The defrost cycle starts at a preset time interval (default 30 minutes, adjustable to 60, 90, or 120 minutes) if ice buildup is sufficient to impede heating operation. It lasts for a maximum of 10 minutes or until the ice is melted.
- Emergency Heat Mode: Allows the supplemental heating source to operate independently if the heat pump requires servicing, ensuring continuous warmth.

Owner-Performed Maintenance (with caution):

Unit Base and Casing: Inspection for cracks, gaps, or deterioration.
