Watch Specifications

Overview

This document outlines the operation of a Casio watch, model 5091, providing a comprehensive guide to its various modes and features. The watch is designed for everyday use, offering timekeeping, calendar, alarm, dual time, and stopwatch functionalities, all accessible through a straightforward button interface.

General Operation and Navigation

The watch features a simple navigation system where pressing the "C" button cycles through the different modes: Timekeeping, Calendar, Alarm, Dual Time, and Stopwatch. Button operations are indicated by letters (A, B, C) as shown in the illustrations throughout the manual.

Timekeeping Mode

The Timekeeping Mode is the primary function, displaying the current time digitally and with analog hands.

  • Setting the Digital Time: To set the digital time, hold down button "B" until the seconds digits begin to flash, indicating the setting screen. Press "A" to reset seconds to "00". Use "B" to move between hour, minutes, and 12/24-hour format settings. Press "A" to increase the selected digits or toggle the time format. Once settings are complete, press "B" to exit.
    • Seconds Reset: Resetting seconds to "00" when the count is between 30 and 59 will increment the minutes by one. If the count is between 00 and 29, minutes remain unchanged.
    • Time Format: The watch supports both 12-hour and 24-hour formats. In 12-hour format, a "P" (PM) indicator appears for times from noon to 11:59 p.m. No indicator is shown for midnight to 11:59 a.m. In 24-hour format, times are displayed from 0:00 to 23:59 without any indicator.
  • Setting the Analog Hands: The analog hands can be advanced by pressing button "A" with a thin object. Each press advances the time by 20 seconds (three presses for one minute). Holding down "A" allows for high-speed advancement. It's important to note that the hands can only be advanced, not reversed.

Calendar Mode

The Calendar Mode allows users to set and view the current date, including the month, day, and day of the week.

  • Setting the Date: To set the date, hold down button "B" in Calendar Mode until the month digits flash. Press "A" to increase the month digits. Use "B" to move to the day digits, then "A" to increase them. Move to the day of the week setting with "B" and advance it with "A". Press "B" to exit the setting screen.
  • Leap Years: The watch's calendar system does not automatically account for leap years. Users must manually adjust the date for February 29 when a leap year occurs.

Alarm Mode

The Alarm Mode provides a daily alarm and an hourly time signal.

  • Daily Alarm: When activated, the daily alarm sounds for 20 seconds at a preset time each day.
  • Hourly Time Signal: When activated, the watch beeps every hour on the hour.
  • Setting the Alarm Time and Activating Signals: In Alarm Mode, hold down button "B" until the hour digits flash. Press "A" to increase the hour digits. The alarm time format (12-hour or 24-hour) automatically matches the timekeeping format. Use "B" to move to the left minutes digit, then "A" to increase it. Repeat for the right minutes digit. After setting the time, press "B" to move to the Daily Alarm and Hourly Time Signal on/off setting. Press "A" to cycle through the options: Both ON, Both OFF, Daily Alarm only, and Hourly Time Signal only. Selecting an option automatically turns on the respective signal(s). Press "B" to exit.
  • Stopping the Alarm: Pressing any button will stop the alarm once it starts to sound.
  • Testing the Alarm and Selecting Tone: To test the alarm, hold down button "A" in any mode (except during setting screens). The alarm will sound, and the tone changes each time "A" is held down for a test. There are four different alarm sounds. The last sound heard during a test will be the one used for the Daily Alarm and Hourly Time Signal. Note that holding down "A" also changes the mode if not in a setting screen.

Dual Time Mode

The Dual Time Mode allows users to keep track of time in a different time zone.

  • Synchronization: The seconds count in Dual Time Mode is synchronized with the seconds count of the Timekeeping Mode.
  • Setting Dual Time: In Dual Time Mode, hold down button "B" until the hour digits flash. Press "A" to increase the hour digits. Use "B" to move to the minutes digits, then "A" to increase them. Move to the 12/24-hour format setting with "B" and press "A" to toggle the format. Press "B" to exit.
    • Time Format: Similar to Timekeeping Mode, the 12-hour format shows a "P" (PM) indicator for noon to 11:59 p.m., and no indicator for midnight to 11:59 a.m. The 24-hour format displays times from 0:00 to 23:59 without an indicator.

Stopwatch Mode

The Stopwatch Mode measures elapsed time up to 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds.

  • Measurement Range: The stopwatch continues to run, restarting from zero after reaching its limit, until it is manually stopped.
  • Background Operation: The stopwatch measurement continues even if the user exits the Stopwatch Mode to another mode.
  • Using the Stopwatch: In Stopwatch Mode, press "B" to start the stopwatch. Press "B" again to stop the measurement. Multiple presses of "B" can be used to resume and stop timing. After completing the measurement, hold down "B" to clear the stopwatch time to all zeros.

Maintenance and Usage Features

  • Auto Return Feature: If a setting screen with flashing digits is left unattended for one or two minutes without any operation, the watch automatically saves any settings made up to that point and exits the setting screen. This prevents accidental changes and conserves battery.
  • Scrolling: The "A" button is used for scrolling through setting screen data. Holding down "A" during a scroll operation enables high-speed scrolling, which is useful for quickly navigating through options.
  • Battery: The watch uses one silver oxide battery (Type: SR920W). The battery life is approximately 2 years, assuming 20 seconds of alarm operation per day. This usage condition helps estimate the expected battery performance.
