Jacket Water Heater - Check
SMCS Code: 1383-535
Jacket water heaters help to improve startability in
ambient temperatures that are below 21 °C (70 °F).
All installations that require automatic starting should
have jacket water heaters.
Check the operation of the jacket water heater.
Check the operation of the circulation pump, if
equipped. For an ambient temperature of 0 °C
(32 °F), the heater should maintain the jacket water
coolant temperature at approximately 32 °C (90 °F).

Overhaul Considerations
SMCS Code: 7595-043
Reduced hours of operation at full load will result in a
lower average power demand. A decreased average
power demand should increase both the engine
service life and the overhaul interval.
The need for an overhaul is generally indicated by
increased fuel consumption and by reduced power.
The following factors are important when a decision
is being made on the proper time for an engine
overhaul:
• The need for preventive maintenance
• The quality of the fuel that is being used
• The operating conditions
• The results of the S·O·S analysis
