Working on Grades
• Starting on a Grade
– Keep the forks or the load at a safe travel
height, which is 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 in.)
from the ground.
– Tilt the mast back more than 6° when the
truck is empty. Tilt it all the way back
when the truck is loaded.

The Engine Stalls on a Grade
1. Apply the parking brake and lower the
forks to the ground.
2. Depress the brake pedal. Place the direc-
tion lever in the NEUTRAL position and
start the engine.
3. Push the direction lever to FORWARD
direction travel.
4. Raise the forks or load to the safe travel
position.
5. Quickly shift your right foot from the
brake pedal to the accelerator pedal. While
gradually depressing the accelerator pedal,
release the parking brake.
