1. DO NOT perform this maintenance
procedure with the engine running.
2. Turn the generator switch to the off “O”
position.
3. Remove the screws (5) to remove the outer
side panel by pushing up and out to access
the engine.
4. Remove the spark plug boot by lifting it off
the top of the spark plug and remove the
spark plug access cover (2) by rotating and
pulling out.
5. Use the plug wrench (4) or a spark plug
socket to remove the spark plug (3).
6. Visually check the spark plug to see if
it is
damaged. If the insulator is cracked, replace
the spark plug. If the electrode is damaged,
replace the spark plug.
7. Measure the plug gap (1) with a feeler
gauge. Adjust the gap as necessary by
carefully bending the side electrode. Refer
to Specifications for the correct gap for your
product.
8. Check the spark plug washer to ensure
proper working condition. If the washer is
damaged, replace the washer.
9. Install spark plug and tighten to 9 ± 2 lb ft
(12.5 ± 2 Nm). DO NOT overtighten as this
may damage the engine.
10. Re-attach the spark plug boot, spark plug
cover (2), and outer side panel.
Walk-Around Inspection
Before starting the engine perform a visual
inspection of the unit. Look for:
Proper oil level
Proper fuel level
Good quality fuel
Fluid leaks
Loose clamps
Loose bolts
Cracked fuel line
Loose or frayed wiring
Built up debris
In addition, make sure that:
The ground terminal is properly
connected
Windings – Test
Remove the side panel (side with service access
doors) by removing the 2 bolts and lifting out
and away (be careful to avoid breaking the
locating tabs).
Remove the air filter cover and housing to allow
better access to the inverter conroller,
underneath the muffler on the left side of the
unit.
Use an Ohmmeter or multimeter to measure the
resistance of the windings. Place the meter
across alternating output terminals and measure
all combinations. The resistance should be
0.95Ω±10% at 25°C across the main winding
(COM2-A the brown terminals). If the resistance
is out of tolerance, replace the inverter. Measure
the resistance from each wire to ground. The
resistance should be infinite. If the resistance is
not infinite, replace the inverter. The resistance
should be 0.43Ω±10% at 25°C across the control
winding (COM3-A the orange terminals). The
resistance should be 0.12Ω±10% at 25°C across
the DC winding (COM1-A the blue terminals).
