Overview

The VM551 Wall Mounted Microwave Oven is a domestic cooking appliance designed for convenient and efficient food preparation. It is intended solely for domestic cooking purposes; any other use may be dangerous and could lead to premature failure of the appliance. The manufacturer, The CDA Group Ltd, emphasizes that they cannot be held responsible for injuries or losses resulting from incorrect use or installation. Furthermore, the guarantee supplied with the product may be invalidated if the appliance is installed incorrectly or misused.

For safety, external covers should never be removed for servicing or maintenance by unqualified personnel. This appliance is not designed for use by individuals with reduced physical, sensorial, or mental capabilities, or those lacking experience or knowledge, unless they are supervised or have received instructions from someone responsible for their safety. Children under 8 years old should not operate or clean the appliance and should be kept away from it and its cable.

Before using the oven for the first time, it is recommended to clean it with soapy water, rinse, and dry carefully. Regular cleaning of the oven is important, and spills should be removed as soon as they occur. When removing items from the oven, always use oven gloves as accessible surfaces are liable to get hot during use. The electrical cable should be kept away from heated surfaces, and no vents on the oven should be covered. Abrasive cleaners or powders that could scratch the appliance's surface should not be used. Attempting to repair the internal workings of the oven is not advised.

This microwave oven has been designed, constructed, and marketed in compliance with safety requirements of EEC Directive 2006/95/EEC (Low voltage) and EMC Directive 2004/108/EEC. It adheres to strict standards and complies with all applicable legislation, including Electrical safety (LVD) and Electromagnetic interference compatibility (EMC). Parts intended to come into contact with food conform to EEC/89/109.4.

For microwave cooking, it is crucial not to operate the oven with the door open or ajar, and the safety interlocks should not be altered or tampered with. Nothing should be placed between the oven front face and the door, and soil or cleaning residues should not accumulate on sealing surfaces. If the door, door seal, or interlocks are damaged, the oven must not be used until repaired by a suitably qualified person. Heating liquids and other foods in sealed containers is dangerous as they are liable to explode. Only competent personnel should carry out service or repair operations that involve removing covers, as these provide protection against exposure to microwave energy.

Only utensils suitable for microwave ovens should be used. Metal pans, dishes with metal handles, or anything with metal trim are not suitable. Melamine dishes should also be avoided as they contain material that absorbs microwave energy, potentially causing the dishes to crack or char and slowing down cooking. Cooking in containers with restricted openings, such as carbonated drinks bottles or salad oil bottles, is dangerous as they may explode. Conventional meat or sugar thermometers should not be used. Wire twist-ties should be removed from bags before placing them in the oven.

The oven cavity should not be used for storage. Eggs in the shell and whole hard-boiled eggs should not be heated in microwave ovens as they may explode, even after heating has ended. Foods surrounded by a membrane, like egg yolks, potatoes, or chicken livers, should be pierced several times with a fork before cooking. If the supply cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, an approved service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard. The appliance should not be stored or used outdoors, near water, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool. The power cable should not hang over the edge of a table or worktop. Failure to maintain the oven in a clean condition can lead to deterioration of surfaces, adversely affecting the appliance's life and potentially creating a hazardous situation.

Microwave heating of beverages can result in delayed eruptive boiling, so care must be taken when handling the container. This appliance is not intended to be operated by an external timer or separate remote-control system. The glass tray, roller arms, coupling, and roller track must always be in place when operating the microwave oven. The oven should only be used for food preparation, not for drying clothes, paper, or other non-food items, or for sterilizing purposes. Operating the microwave oven when empty could damage it. No objects should be inserted into the openings on the outer case, and parts like feet, coupling, or screws should not be removed. Food should not be cooked directly on the glass turntable; proper cooking utensils should be used. Deep-frying foods in the oven is not recommended.

It's important to remember that a microwave oven heats the liquid in a container, not the container itself. Therefore, even if a container's lid is not hot to the touch, the food/liquid inside will release steam and/or spit when the lid is removed, similar to conventional cooking. Always test the temperature of cooked food, especially when heating or cooking for babies. Food containing a mixture of fat and water, such as stock, should stand for 30-60 seconds after being turned off to allow the mixture to settle and minimize the risk of eruptive boiling when a spoon or stock cube is added. When preparing/cooking foods with high fat or sugar content, plastic containers should not be used. Cooking utensils may become hot due to heat transferred from the food, particularly if plastic wrap has covered the top and handles. Oven gloves may be needed to handle hot utensils. To reduce the risk of fire in the oven cavity, avoid overcooking food and carefully watch the microwave oven if paper, plastic, or other combustible materials are used inside during cooking.

The appliance features a cooling fan for maximum efficiency and to maintain low surface temperatures. This fan switches on automatically when the oven is in use and may continue to run after use, depending on the cooking program duration. The oven light remains on for every cooking function. When first connected to power, the display will show "0:00" and sound one beep.

The control panel includes an LED display, Microwave button, Multi-Function knob, Clock/Timer button, Stop/Clear button, Door Release, and Weight/Time Defrost button. The LED display shows indicators for Microwave, Time Defrost, Weight Defrost, Microwave Power, Clock, Minute Minder, Auto, Key Lock, and Weight.

To set the clock, press the "Clock/Timer" button twice, turn the Multi-Function knob to set hours (0-23, 24-hour format), press "Clock/Timer" again, turn the knob to set minutes (0-59), and press "Clock/Timer" once more to finish.

For microwave cooking, press the "Microwave" button once (display shows "P100"), turn the Multi-Function knob to set the power level (100%, 80%, 50%, 30%, or 10%), press "Start/+30Sec./Confirm" to confirm power, turn the knob to set cooking time (00:05 to 95:00 minutes), and press "Start/+30Sec./Confirm" again to start. Quick start options include pressing "Start/+30Sec./Confirm" once for 30 seconds at 100% power (increasable by 30-second increments up to 95 minutes) or turning the Multi-Function knob anti-clockwise to set a time and then pressing "Start/+30Sec./Confirm" once. Pressing the Multi-Function button once will increase cooking time by 30 seconds.

Defrosting by weight involves pressing "Weight/Timed Defrost" once (display shows "dEF1"), turning the Multi-Function knob to select food weight (100g - 2000g), and pressing "Start/+30Sec./Confirm" to start. Defrosting by time requires pressing "Weight/Timed Defrost" twice (display shows "dEF2"), turning the Multi-Function knob to set cooking time (00:05 to 95:00 minutes), and pressing "Start/+30Sec./Confirm" to start (power level is fixed at 30%).

The Auto Menu allows selecting cooking menus (A-1 to A-8) by turning the Multi-Function knob clockwise, confirming with "Start/+30Sec./Confirm", selecting cooking weight from available options, and pressing "Start/+30Sec./Confirm" to start.

The Minute Minder is set by pressing "Clock/Timer" once (display shows "00:00"), turning the Multi-Function knob to set the time (00:05 to 95:00 minutes), and pressing "Start/+30Sec./Confirm" to confirm. The clock indicator will illuminate and count down. After 5 beeps, the display reverts to the current time. During cooking, the current power level or time can be displayed for 3 seconds by pressing the "Microwave" or "Clock/Timer" button, respectively.

The Key Lock feature, engaged by pressing "Stop/Clear" for 3 seconds in standby mode, prevents accidental operation. The display will show the "Key Lock" symbol or "[---]" if the time is not set. To unlock, press "Stop/Clear" for another 3 seconds.

For maintenance, the oven exterior, with its stainless steel surface, should be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner and a dilute solution of water and mild detergent. Abrasive cleaners like Cif could scratch the surface and erase control panel markings. Micro-fibre cloths are recommended. The oven interior should be cleaned after each use, once it has cooled down, using a mild detergent solution and warm water. Steam cleaners must not be used. All parts must be correctly replaced after cleaning.

The appliance should be installed in a wall unit (open at the rear) with appropriate dimensions. Blocking intake/outlet openings can damage the microwave oven. It should be placed as far as possible from radios and TVs to avoid interference. Installation involves sliding the appliance halfway into the cabinet, adjusting the screw "A" at the back left to reach the underside of the shelf, sliding it fully into the recess (ensuring the power cable is not trapped), fixing it in position with screw "B" through the installation hole, and fitting the blanking plug.

The appliance is earthed and fitted with a BS 1363A 13 Amp fused plug. To change a fuse, remove the fuse cover, fit a replacement 13A fuse (ASTA approved to BS 1362 type), and replace the fuse cover. The appliance must not be used without the fuse cover. If an alternative plug is needed, the fitted plug should be cut off and disposed of safely, and a suitable 13 Amp BS 1363 plug should be used. Wiring connections are: GREEN and YELLOW to Earth (E or Earth symbol), BLUE to Neutral (N or BLACK), and BROWN to Live (L or RED). If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician. The supply cable should not be shortened. The plug socket must be easily accessible after installation.
