Overview

This document describes the Cello Asteria 60 cm cooker hood, available in several models: CPW583 (502407956), CPW585 (502407958), CPW584 (502407957), and CPW586 (502407760).

Function Description

The Asteria 60 cm cooker hood is designed to extract cooking fumes and odors from the kitchen, improving air quality and preventing grease buildup. It can operate in two modes:

  • Ducting version (air exhaust to the outside): In this configuration, the extracted air is vented directly outside the building through a duct system. This method is generally more efficient for removing odors and moisture.
  • Filtering version (air circulation to the inside): In this mode, the air is filtered through active carbon filters to remove odors and then recirculated back into the kitchen. This is suitable for homes where external venting is not possible.

The appliance features a telescopic flue for adjustable height and includes LED lighting to illuminate the cooking area. It is equipped with a control panel for managing fan speed, lighting, and timer functions.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Dimensions: The cooker hood has a width of 598 mm and a depth of 285 mm. The height is adjustable, ranging from a minimum of 710 mm to a maximum of 1065 mm. The chimney width is 255 mm.
  • Electrical Connection: The appliance must be connected to the electricity supply according to local regulations. The wiring colors are: BROWN = L line, BLUE = N neutral, YELLOW/GREEN = earth. The neutral wire must be connected to the terminal with the N symbol, while the YELLOW/GREEN wire must be connected to the earth symbol.
  • Minimum Distance from Hob: When installed above a gas hob, the minimum distance between the hob and the lower part of the hood must be at least 65 cm. If the connection tube composed of two parts is used, the upper part must be placed outside the lower part. Do not connect the cooker hood exhaust to the same conductor used to circulate hot air or for evacuating fumes from other appliances generated by other than an electrical source.
  • Ducting Requirements: For optimal performance in ducting mode, the exhaust pipe should have a diameter of 150 mm. If a pipe with a smaller diameter is used, the efficiency of the product may be reduced, and its operation may become noisier.
  • Active Carbon Filters: For the filtering version, active carbon filters (Cello 2009 ACF) are required. These filters are designed to absorb odors from the recirculated air.

Usage Features

  • Control Panel (Fig. 7): The appliance is operated via a touch control panel with several buttons:
    • A (Power Button): Switches the hood on/off. The equipment switches on at the 1st speed.
    • B (Decrease Speed Button): Decreases motor speed.
    • C (Display): Shows the selected motor speed and timer activation/intense speed/filter warning.
    • D (Increase Speed Button): Increases motor speed.
    • E (Timer Button): Pressing this button engages the intense function for 6 minutes, then the equipment goes back to working at the speed at which it was activated. During this function, the number 2 flashes on the display. If you wish to deactivate the function before 6 minutes, press the B button.
    • F (Light Button): Switches the lights on/off.
  • Intense Function: This function provides maximum extraction power for 6 minutes, useful for quickly clearing strong cooking fumes. After 6 minutes, the hood automatically reverts to the previously selected speed.
  • Filter Warning (C): The display will show a warning (e.g., "C" or "F" flashing) when it's time to clean or replace the grease filters or replace the active carbon filters.
  • Timer Function (E): The timer button activates the Timer function even with any of the 1-2-3 speeds engaged (except the Intense function speed). When the Timer function is active, the set speed must flash on the display when the timer is activated. After 15 minutes, at the end of the countdown, the hood switches off (motor and any lights remain on). If the intense speed is engaged, the Timer cannot be activated.

Maintenance Features

  • Grease Filters: These filters capture grease particles from cooking fumes. They must be cleaned regularly to maintain efficiency.
    • Cleaning Frequency: After 30 hours of operation, the C display flashes, indicating that the grease filters need cleaning.
    • Cleaning Method: Grease filters can be washed by hand or in a dishwasher at low temperature using a non-abrasive neutral detergent.
    • Replacement: Non-regenerable active carbon filters must be replaced at least every 4 months. The saturation of the active charcoal depends on the more or less prolonged use of the appliance, on the type of kitchen, and on the frequency with which anti-grease filter is cleaned.
  • Active Carbon Filters (Filtering Version): These filters remove odors from the air.
    • Replacement Frequency: After 120 hours of operation, the C/F display flashes, indicating that the active carbon filters need replacement.
    • Replacement Procedure: Before remounting the anti-grease filters, ensure they are completely dry.
    • Filter Type: Use Cello 2009 ACF active carbon filters.
  • Cleaning the Appliance:
    • External Surfaces: Clean the hood frequently, both internally and externally, using a cloth dampened with neutral liquid detergents that are non-abrasive.
    • Lighting System: The lighting system is designed for use during cooking.
  • General Maintenance: Attention: The non-compliance with the hood cleaning warnings and with the replacement and cleaning of the filters entails risk of fires. Follow the recommended instructions to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Installation Instructions

  • Mounting: The cooker hood must be mounted to the wall using the provided screws and anchors. Ensure the wall is suitable to support the weight of the appliance.
  • Ducting Installation (Fig. 2 & 3):
    • For ducting mode, connect the exhaust pipe to the outlet on the top of the hood and route it to the outside.
    • Ensure the ducting is properly sealed to prevent air leaks.
  • Filtering Installation (Fig. 5A):
    • For filtering mode, install the active carbon filters onto the motor unit.
    • Ensure the air outlet is directed back into the kitchen, usually through grilles on the chimney.
  • Electrical Connection: Connect the appliance to the mains electricity supply according to the wiring diagram and local regulations. Ensure the power cable is not damaged.
  • Telescopic Flue Installation (Fig. 4): Install the decorative telescopic flue pieces, adjusting their height to fit the ceiling. Secure them with screws.
  • Light Installation (Fig. 6): The appliance is equipped with LED-powered lights.

Safety Precautions

  • Always follow the instructions in the manual for installation, safety, and maintenance.
  • Ensure proper ventilation in the kitchen to avoid negative pressure, especially when operating other combustion appliances (e.g., gas hobs, fireplaces).
  • Do not use the cooker hood without the grease filters properly installed.
  • Do not flambé food under the cooker hood.
  • Do not leave frying pans unattended during cooking, as overheated oil can catch fire.
  • Regularly clean the filters and the appliance to prevent fire hazards.
  • The appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities unless supervised or instructed by a responsible person.
  • Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
  • There shall be adequate ventilation of the room when the rangehood is used at the same time as appliances burning gas or other fuels.
  • There is a risk of fire if cleaning is not carried out in accordance with the instructions.
