This document describes the Century CC1212 9-Stage Battery Charger and Maintainer, designed for lead-acid batteries.
Function Description:
The Century CC1212 is an automatic smart battery charger, maintainer, and rejuvenator. Its primary function is to charge and maintain 12V conventional lead-acid batteries, including Sealed Maintenance Free (SMF) flooded calcium, Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) and maintainable flooded, and Gel electrolyte types. The device employs a 9-stage charging and maintenance process to ensure optimal battery health and extend battery life. It features automatic diagnosis to determine if rejuvenation or a standard charge cycle is needed. The charger can be left connected for long-term maintenance, providing a pulse charge to keep the battery fully charged and in optimal condition.

Usage Features:
- Easy to Use: The charger is designed for ease of use, requiring no technical experience.
- Microprocessor Controlled: Fully microprocessor controlled with safety timers at every stage of the charging process.
- Multi-Stage Charging: The 9-stage process includes:
- Qualification: Battery condition check.
- Battery Rejuvenation (Reconditioning Mode): Repairs sulphated batteries using high voltage equalising and peak pulse re-conditioning. This stage is automatic if the battery is in poor condition.
- Soft Start Charging: Gently charges the battery at a reduced output until it reaches 11V.
- Bulk Charging: Uses maximum selected charge output until the battery voltage reaches the specified level for its type.
- Absorption Charging: Uses constant voltage while reducing current to ensure a full charge without overcharging.
- Equalisation Charging: Carefully overcharges the battery to restore full capacity. Automatic for SMF [Calcium] and conditional for AGM/Flooded and GEL types.
- Battery Analysis: Checks battery condition after the charge cycle.
- Float Mode: Maintains the battery at a constant 13.6V, allowing 24/7 connection.
- Long Term Maintenance Pulse Charge: Applies a special pulse charge to keep the battery in optimal condition during extended connection.
- Selectable Battery Type: Users can select the battery type (SMF [Calcium], AGM/Flooded, or Gel) to optimize charging.
- Selectable Charge Rate / Mode:
- 12A - Rapid Charge Mode: Provides maximum charging current for the fastest charge time. The cooling fan may operate in this mode.
- 8A - Silent Charge Mode: Charges at a reduced rate, typically without requiring the cooling fan.
- 1A - Maintenance Mode: Ideal for long-term maintenance or charging smaller batteries.
- Ultra Low Power Consumption (ECO Mode): The charger automatically enters ECO mode when AC power is connected and the battery is disconnected for 10 seconds, drawing less than 0.36W. When connected to a charged battery in long-term maintenance, power consumption is around 0.03kWh per day.
- LED Status Indicators: LEDs indicate battery type, charge rate, and charging status (Full, Absorption, Bulk, Fault). In ECO mode, both Charge Rate and Battery Type LEDs flash GREEN.
- Output Connectors: Comes with heavy-duty and corrosion-resistant quick connect crocodile clips and ring terminal harnesses.
Maintenance Features:
- Battery Rejuvenation Technology: Patented technology uses high voltage equalising and peak pulse re-conditioning to repair sulphated batteries, extending battery life.
- Safety Timers: Built-in safety timers at every stage prevent overcharging and protect the battery if it doesn't reach a certain voltage within a set time.
- Internal Overheat Protection: An electronic circuit protects the charger from damage due to overheating or overloading by automatically decreasing charging current.
- Reverse Polarity Protection: Disables the charger and illuminates the fault LED if output leads are connected incorrectly.
- Short Circuit Protection: Automatically turns off and illuminates the fault LED if output leads are short-circuited.
- Long-Term Maintenance: Designed to be left connected to maintain batteries at peak performance with a special pulse charge.
- Electrolyte Level Check: Instructions advise checking and topping up electrolyte levels (for non-sealed batteries) after charging.
Safety Advice:
- Always refer to battery manufacturer specifications.
- Charge in a well-ventilated area, never in a closed room.
- Designed for indoor use only; avoid exposure to water, rain, snow, or liquids.
- Wear eye protection when working near batteries.
- Turn off the charger or ignition before disconnecting.
- Do not use if dropped, damaged, or if cables/plugs are damaged.
- Wear PPE (safety glasses, chemical resistant gloves, overalls) to protect against battery acid.
- Follow first aid instructions for battery acid exposure.
- Do not charge damaged, frozen, or non-rechargeable batteries.
- Do not place the charger on the battery or the battery on the charger.
- Remove personal metal items when working with lead-acid batteries to prevent short circuits.
- NEVER smoke, use open flames, or create sparks near batteries/chargers during operation.
- Do not disassemble the charger; seek qualified repair.
- Handle acid spills with soda ash or alkali.
- Use a surge protector if using a generator.
- Keep away from infirm persons, children, and pets.
