Description
The Quick-32r is a wireless, battery-
operated EEG headset utilizing dry
sensor technology. Channel positions
are arranged in an enhanced 10-20
montage with 10 additional fixed EEG
channels on the head, plus 2 variable-
placement ExG channels.
The headset provides an integrated
approach to the wireless acquisition
of recorded of EEG signals. Wireless
technology allows the subject to move
about while real-time data is collected
and displayed.
The headset obtains high-quality
EEG with minimal scalp preparation.
Patented mechanisms and replaceable
dry sensors align to various head
shapes and sizes, maintaining sensor
positions in a standard montage.
EEG channels are sampled at a time
resolution of 500Hz and converted to
digital data at 24 bits of resolution.
The Quick-32r provides research-
grade signal quality and is ideally
suited for general-purpose EEG and
ERP research in laboratory and field
environments.

Do you have a question about the CGX Quick-32r and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The CGX Quick-32r is a wireless, battery-operated EEG headset designed for research and development efforts. It is not an FDA-approved medical device. This device is intended to acquire electroencephalogram (EEG) signals and transmit them wirelessly to a computer. It is not intended for monitoring patients in a clinical environment, medical diagnosis, use on subjects undergoing surgery, use in sterile environments, or use with sleeping subjects. There are no known side effects from its use.

Function Description:

The Quick-32r measures scalp surface electrical potentials arising from activity in the cortex using dry sensor technology. It follows an enhanced international 10-20 system, standardizing 30 electrode placements across the scalp. The headset includes 10 additional fixed EEG channels on the head, plus 2 variable-placement ExG channels. It provides an integrated approach to wireless acquisition of EEG signals, allowing subjects to move freely while real-time data is collected and displayed. The headset obtains high-quality EEG with minimal scalp preparation, utilizing patented mechanisms and replaceable dry sensors that align to various head shapes and sizes, maintaining sensor positions in a standard montage. It is designed to provide research-grade signal quality, making it suitable for general-purpose EEG and ERP research in both laboratory and field environments.

Usage Features:

  • Software Installation: The CGX Acquisition software runs on Windows only. Users navigate to CGXSystems.com, download the software, extract the zipped file, run CGX Setup, and follow instructions. A shortcut is created on the desktop.
  • Sensor Selection: Users choose between Drypad sensors for areas without hair (forehead and bald areas) and Flex sensors to penetrate hair.
  • Sensor Attachment: Sensors have a round flower pattern that aligns with a recessed flower pattern on the snap connector. They are lightly rotated to lock into place and then firmly pushed at the center. When removing, users pry between the sensor and connector, avoiding pulling on Flex sensor tips.
  • Earclip Assembly: The A1 Earclip (left ear) and optional A2 Earclip (right ear) are assembled by pinching to open, inserting Drypad Ear Sensors, and attaching Passive and Active Lead Wires to the snap connectors and handles. The A1 earclip has two sensor locations: Reference and Ground. The A2 earclip is used in linked-ears configurations.
  • ExG Lead Attachment: For additional biometric data, a passive lead wire can be attached to the touchproof connector on the A2 handle.
  • Battery Insertion: The headset uses two AA Alkaline or NiMH batteries. Batteries are inserted into the A1 handle, following the markings inside the battery housing.
  • Power and Trigger Status Lights: The amplifier has a Power Light (Off, Green, Yellow for low battery, Red for critically low battery) and a Trigger Light (Off for out of range, Blue for in range with the optional CGX Wireless StimTrigger).
  • Bluetooth Dongle: A high-speed receiver dongle plugs into the computer's USB port. It is specific to each headset and automatically connects when both are powered on and within a 10m range. The dongle's light indicates its current state.
  • Acquisition Software Operation: After establishing a connection, users open the CGX Acquisition software, select the device name, click "Connect," and then "Start Device" to begin data streaming. The "Channels" tab allows for impedance checks.
  • Headset Placement: The headset is placed front-to-back, with Fp1 and Fp2 sensor pods resting 1cm above the eyebrows, the crown sitting directly on top of the head, and earpads resting securely around the ears. It should not be tilted too far back, and legs or pods should not be tilted or misaligned. Handles are pulled down until the Cz sensor makes firm contact with the top of the head.
  • Sensor Contact Optimization: The Quick-32r has impedance-level LEDs on each sensor pod (threshold 2,500 ΚΩ) to assist in making contact. The CGX Data Acquisition software's "Channels" tab provides a color-coded impedance map (Red for >2,500 ΚΩ, Green for <2,500 ΚΩ).
  • Recording EEG: Once acceptable impedance levels are achieved, users click "Record" under the "Device" tab to begin, and "Stop Recording" to end.
  • Ending Session: Close the file, exit the program, and press the power button to turn off the device.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning Sensors: All sensors should be cleaned with hand sanitizer or alcohol wipes after each use to avoid cross-subject contamination.
  • Cleaning Sensor Pods and Legs: Sensor pods and legs should be cleaned with alcohol wipes.
  • Battery Storage: Batteries should be removed when the headset is not in use.
  • Headset Storage: The headset should be placed upside down on a tabletop or back into the carrying case. Long-term storage in the carrying case is not recommended as legs may become compressed. To restore shape, place on a mannequin head for several hours.
  • Disposal Instructions: Follow local laws and policies for electronic and battery disposal. The headset can also be returned to CGX for proper disposal.
  • Precautionary Measures: Do not drop, sit on, step on, fold, push, pull, or stretch the product. Do not immerse in liquid, expose to direct sunlight, heat, moisture, vibration, mechanical shock, excessive dust, or humidity. Do not open, modify, or disassemble the headset as this voids the warranty. Do not use if damaged or wet (remove batteries and dry thoroughly). Avoid caustic or abrasive cleaners. Avoid sharply bending the legs.
  • Sensor Replacement: Disposable sensors should be replaced at or before their stated lifecycle limits (200 uses) or if they appear worn.
  • Accessory Use: Only use accessories supplied with the Quick-32r system to prevent damage or diminished efficacy.
