Why Champion 100440 Winches motor does not turn on?
    • E
      efaulknerJul 27, 2025
There are several reasons why the motor might not be turning on. It could be due to a switch assembly not properly connected; ensure it's fully inserted into the connector. Check for loose battery cable connections and tighten the nuts. The contactor might be malfunctioning; try tapping it to loosen the contacts or apply 12 volts to the coil terminals directly to check for activation (a clicking sound indicates proper function). A defective switch assembly or motor can also be the cause, so replace the switch assembly or check for voltage at the armature port when the switch is pressed, replacing the motor if voltage is present. Finally, if water has entered the motor, allow it to drain and dry, then run it in short bursts with a load until completely dry.

      Antonio WoodardAug 2, 2025
If your Champion Winches motor runs slowly or without normal power, it could be due to insufficient current or voltage. Try recharging the battery or running the winch with the vehicle motor running to ensure a strong charge. Also, check for loose or corroded battery cable connections; clean, tighten, or replace them as necessary.

      Andre ScottAug 9, 2025
If your Champion Winches motor runs in only one direction, it might be due to a defective or stuck contactor. Try tapping the contactor to loosen the contacts. Alternatively, the contactor may need repair or replacement. A defective switch assembly could also be the problem, requiring replacement.

      vickie02Aug 21, 2025
If the motor runs but the rope drum does not turn, the clutch (cam ring) may not be engaged. Move the cam ring to the “In” position. If the problem persists, a qualified technician needs to check and repair.
